Country Stricter Than North Korea
Vložit
- čas přidán 26. 04. 2023
- Turkmenistan is a country located in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the east and northeast, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. Its capital and largest city is Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan has a population of approximately 6 million people and is known for its natural gas reserves, which are among the largest in the world. The country has a largely arid and desert-like climate, with very hot summers and cold winters.
Turkmenistan was formerly part of the Soviet Union and gained independence in 1991. Since then, the country has been led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, who has been in power since 2007. The country has been criticized for its lack of political freedom and human rights abuses.
Despite its wealth of natural resources, Turkmenistan's economy is heavily reliant on exports of natural gas, and the government maintains strict control over most aspects of the economy. The country is also known for its ornate and grandiose public buildings, many of which were constructed under the current president's rule.
It's difficult to make a direct comparison between the strictness of Turkmenistan and North Korea as they are different countries with different political systems and social norms. However, both countries have been criticized for their lack of political freedoms and human rights abuses.
In Turkmenistan, the government exercises tight control over most aspects of society, including the media, political opposition, and civil society. Freedom of speech, assembly, and religion are severely restricted, and the government has been known to imprison and torture political dissidents and journalists.
Similarly, North Korea is known for its authoritarian regime, which exercises strict control over all aspects of society. The government heavily restricts access to information, and political opposition is not tolerated. The country is also known for its severe human rights abuses, including forced labor and public executions.
Overall, both Turkmenistan and North Korea are considered to be among the most repressive and closed societies in the world, and both countries have been criticized for their lack of political freedoms and human rights abuses.
Turkmenistan is known for having some unusual and strict laws, many of which reflect the country's authoritarian political system and conservative social norms. Here are a few examples:
The government has banned certain breeds of dogs, including pit bulls, Doberman pinschers, and Great Danes, as well as cats with short tails or ears.
The country has strict rules on public behavior, including a ban on smoking in public, drinking alcohol outside of designated areas, and chewing gum in public.
The government has also banned certain types of music, including rap and heavy metal, as well as certain hairstyles and clothing styles that are seen as too Western.
Turkmenistan has also imposed strict controls on the internet, including blocking access to many social media sites and requiring all internet service providers to operate through a state-controlled network.
The government requires all men to serve two years of military service, and failure to do so can result in imprisonment.
Women are required to dress modestly in public, and the government has banned makeup in many public places.
Overall, Turkmenistan's legal system is highly centralized and authoritarian, with strict controls on public behavior and limited freedoms for its citizens.

Hi, turkmen here! I left Turkmenistan and applied for political asylum 5 years ago. I can confirm that people there are happy, simply because they dont believe, or rather dont wanna believe, that there is a happier life outside of the nation. Inly the more educated know what freedom is there. But those that are in denial still live happy lives.
Small edit: I don't want to spread misinformation, so I will just add that everyone's lives in Turkmenistan heavily depends on connections and the amount of money they earn. Many people have answered me that they are from Turkmenistan but have lived happy lives. And as per request I will just say that what I'm talking about in my comment is what I saw personally through my 13 years living there with my own 2 eyes. I understand that some may have had different experiences, but to say that Turkmenistan is fine and has all the resources and human rights as any other country is like bullshitting in my face. I can talk for hours about how many of my family members died from the lack of medicine and treatments. About my family members who were wrongly accused of crimes because they knew too much. I can talk about my own mother who was detained for months because of her dispute with a politician. I don't want you thinking that everyone's life was as bad as mine in Turkmenistan, but you have no right to say that Turkmenistan is like any other country. My story is just one of many, and hopefully one day dictatorship will cease to exist in Turkmenistan and we can hear the stories of other people as well. If you are a fellow Turkmen I really do hope that you and your family is doing ok ♡

As a flight crewmember, I have spent a lot of days in the country at the hotel by the Caspian Sea. You hardly see anyone on the roads and it gives you an uneasy feeling.
Tell us more
@manikantasaiD Well, when you travel from the airport to the hotels that are located at the edge of the Caspian Sea, you can't help but notice that there are no local people wandering around the area. The locals that you do get to see are, for the most part, employees of the hotels or people who work for the state, and they are the ones that keep the landscaping of the town neatly groomed.
As you check in to the hotel, you will have a very limited choice of television stations and / or cable shows. Most of the tourists that you do see are Russians or Ukrainians, and the rest of the tourists are really airline crew members like myself.
There are no places in the area where you can go and exchange foreign currency into local currency. You must do this at the airport at a local bank, and the exchange rate is really bad.
The workers at the hotel are friendly, and they speak fluent English and Russian.
The food at the hotel is good and alcoholic beverages are very expensive. We were advised by the hotel employees not to venture to the nearby town because there was nothing for us there, and transportation (taxi) was not going to be available to us, so we never ventured to the town, as we only stayed at the resort and enjoyed our stay there.
Every time I arrived there, the area gave me the feeling as if we were in a Hollywood movie set, complete with a town and parks, with roads and freshly planted trees, with no actors to be seen anywhere around. The only thing missing was the movie crew waiting for the actors to appear to start filming. That's the feeling that I had and could give you.
At one time, we went to Ashgabat, and from there, we took a private tour (road trip) towards the famous Gates of Hell. This was as I remember, a 03 hours and 45 minutes road trip. There were people there when we arrived, and ended up staying almost 4 hours. When we were done, we took the small tour bus back to Ashgabat. It was an unexpected and interesting tourist attraction. I believe the trip was worth the price we ended up paying.
For the most part, I enjoyed my time in Turkmenistan.

To those people who insist that people who live under oppressive governments are unhappy (as I see comments saying that "these people don't know what happiness is"), you'll never really know as you have not have been in their shoes. Even without "freedom", it is still possible to be happy. In comparison to people who live in "free" governments, they are also human beings that can experience emotions such as happiness and sadness, it's a natural emotion present in all humans. As the saying goes, 'ignorance is bliss', they may be "oppressed" or "not free" as they live life in an "oppressive" government, they adapt to their society and abide by the laws set by their government similarly to how we live in "free" governments. In fact, we should question ourselves, "Are we really free?" "Is the "freedom" our government gives us the ideal freedom?". The answer to the question is based on how you feel.

If they are living happily then let them live in their way.
How would you know they are living happily, just because the narrator says so?
@@tommybotts how do you know they are not living happily just because they are a bit different from you?
@CHIRAG PATIL Nobody said anything about them being different than anyone else - and don't answer a question with a question. It's rude!!
@@tommybotts 😂😂😂 it is just a question...why you getting triggered 😐😐
They are not living they are dying in a jail called Turkmenistan 😂
“They’re still happy”
Happy like a North Korean child
I had few friends who were studying in India from Turkmenistan, all who I meet were friendly and had done mandatory military service
"But people are still happy and live their lives happily" Sounds like he's being held hostage or at gunpoint to say that and reassure us that the citizens there are happy and totally not depressed
Egg xactly! 😂
They actually doing something like this. You must have a hostages inside the country when you leave it. If you don't have one, you can't go out abroad. So if you will be saying how bad it was, they punished your hostages
@@annettandreevnareally 😮 that is mental
@@annettandreevnanot true. Maybe in North Korea, but not in Turkmenistan

It's twinned with Stepford.
Hahaha
Americans with judging comments, and that's what we called typical Americans.
if you're happy in the terrorist organization known as the usa
North Koreans: so maybe we don’t have it the worst

Turkmenistan.🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲🇹🇲.
"No press freedom"
"But people are still happy"
That's what I call a paradox.
Unless every single citizen of Turkmenistan came and told you they're happy, you have no proof of their happiness.
The Press has to repeat the lines told by the government, not the people.
It's just may be that your concept of happiness is not theirs. What does having a free press have to do with happiness? People are happy when they are satisfied with what they know, with the things they have and are accustomed to, etc, etc, etc.
True, spot on. I was about to commit suicide but I realized that CNN is free to air in my country. I am happy again afterward.
That makes turkmenistan not free, but american media being controlled by just 6 companies makes america the most free nation? what kind of batshit crazy logic is this?
look freedom of press doesnt affect your average happiness especially if its only role brainwash people. people are happy because they have family nice living at that standarts friends. yes there hell of restrictions but generally people live quite normal life there. you dont need free brainwashing agenda to be happy
Press freedom equates to happiness? Lame if not stupid. Does more discipline mean dictatorship? Discipline produces law and order, and certainty. You just simply want to be rowdy and do outrageous things without suppering consequences that is why you hate discipline society.
“They’re still happy” good one.
As of 2021 Turkmenistan is 95th in Happiness Index. People in the West are just spoiled and live in countries with lots of Freedom and little Order so aren’t used to Discipline and think just because a place is happy and more “oppressed” it’s people can’t be happy
This is the arrogance of the West. They think just because they have "freedom" that they are happier than other countries with strict rules while their society rots from within with so many problems like homelessness and gender perversion, idiots...
Bs too. Just google emigration rates. They are crazy for Turkmenistan. I guess thats when they are happy - on the way out 🥴
“Its president once banned all black cars” *checks comments*
They don’t talk about this because the country isn’t socialist. It doesn’t scare capital
Nah it's not. They can leave the country. North Koreans are prisoners.
"but people are still happy" more like "people are obligated to say they're happy"
That is the dumbest thing I've heard. There is no evidence that people will get punished for saying they are not happy.
I live in Turkiye (🦃) And in my crusty musty dusty school we have a Turkmen. He born in Turkmenistan but when he was born his family flew to turkey INMIDIETLY.

Alright, let's ask North Koreans if they wanna move to Ukraine, Yemen, Somalia or places like that right now

The Major Law: is to be Happy 😂😂
They can't exactly say they're unhappy without risk and likely don't know anything else anyway.
Or people can be happy even when it's against the law to hold hands in public
@@zahiab.a.z2478 If the laws are that strict it's likely not going to be a fun country to live in.

Stricter than N.Korea? Don't think so. In N.Korea not only black cars, no cars can enter capital without prior written permission, you go to jail for 10 years minimum for watching one S.Korean movie or owning a bible/Coran/any religious books.
