    Visited Siquijor in late 2019 with my girlfriend, wonderful time. Not the most scenic, or the most wow factor in the Philippines, but there's just something so mellow about it. Will definitely return very soon in the next year or two.

    • @-whackd
      @-whackd Pล™ed 11 mฤ›sรญci +13

      The Philippines has some of the lowest labour costs in the world. It costs very little to hire someone to batch cook and clean every other day, and saves a massive amount of time. Having a personal chef makes it more likely that you will eat healthy food because it's sitting in the fridge, rather than indulging on a snack.
      I recommend giving it a try by having someone come for a full day once per week, doing a deep clean, washing and ironing sheets and other laundry, chopping of onions potatoes vegetables and some food prep for a meal or two. If she is smart enough to cook at the same time she cleans, let her go early with a full day's pay and remember to let her enjoy some of the food she cooked. You can find someone by going to a nearby church and asking the Padre if there is an honest lady in need of a day of work per week to help supplement her family.

      @@-whackdgreat ideaโ€ฆI would also teach this person food safety practicesโ€ฆmy career included food safety training for a national quick service restaurant chain. When I watch street food being made, OMG it is so hard to watch because of the way food is handled.

    • @-whackd
      @-whackd Pล™ed 11 mฤ›sรญci

      @@WilliamFluery Hard to avoid the industrial seed oils when eating out. I just get domestic help to cook their cultural dishes the way they were before industrial seed oils by getting the right ingredients and having a list of instructions and recipes for them. Most people can read English recipe instructions (but you can also use a translation tool). The idea is to get them to batch cook at least two meals while you're there, with enough leftovers for a couple days afterward. Most Asian meals just require a rice cooker with hot rice and then reheating the main course, so having help come Sunday and Wednesday could probably sustain most people with zero cooking needed.

    • @WilliamFluery
      @WilliamFluery Pล™ed 11 mฤ›sรญci +3

      @@-whackd yes! no rice, flour, potatoes, etc for me. Vegetables, berries (blue, black, rasp), meat, eggs, fish, fat (olive oil, MTC oil, butter, animal fat, nuts) I also eat one huge meal (2,500 calories) a day over 4 hours and fast 20. I also use pink him. salt, black pepper, cayenne, onion, garlic & cumin for seasoning. Im sure the tropics would offer more spice options.

    Not all electronics draw power just by being plugged in. Usually something with a charger will draw. Things with LED lights, clocks, or transformer/capacitor set up ( internal or external) may draw but it is nearly negligible. The real savings is what Dan said but they moved on from was protection from " power surges". I have power strips and kill power to almost everything when it storms or when I sleep.

      Unless you are buying the very expensive power strips with very high jewel number they are worthless. UPS system is the way to protect your electronics. In the US you can buy from 60-100 . Not sure the price there. They last for about 2-3 yrs then tou replace the batteries inside which is very easy to do

    Siquijor is a more relaxed island all around. Nowhere near as many vendors trying to sell you something other than at the port basically. San Juan is a smallish town but has most everything one would need to live...more or less. Get Wrecked is a great sports bar run by Nathan, an Aussie, and has a large menu full of good food and it is right on the water. One of my friends is thinking about moving here to Siquijor given its laid back chill, mountains and various nature outings to take in.
    Robert is definitely on the cheaper side of living in the PI but it can be done without much work if one is willing to live simply and doesn't need a lot of material stuff. This budget that he has himself on does not have to be an exception by any means. It would be harder to live on this budget in some of the more populated areas however...

      โ€‹โ€‹@@VagabondAwakethe way it was explained to me is when you turn a certain age in America you are eligible for Medicare and you have a certain amount of time to sign up for a Medicare plan..if you do not sign up for a complete Medicare plan you will be charged an expensive penalty fee later on if you want to take out the plan.. it is best to get with somebody like Humana and get the whole thing in one bunch together..you need to keep an American address for the Medicare plan and you will have it if you need it later in life.. you need an American address for your American Bank and for your Medicare plan.. I am in my late sixties and I live in south Louisiana I got the Humana gold plan which was totally free and it includes everything including the medication plan and other things I do not even understand.. the plans vary by price and if they are free or not depending on the area you live in America.. I was told by a older friend I better sign up during the sign up period because if I did not I would be charged a penalty fee later on to sign up that nobody can really afford.. it is a another trick bag from the American government that you will get put into if you do not pay attention..๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

I had to when I was forced to return to America during the bsdemic.
