Policy NAT - Network Address Translation

  • Policy NAT is a type of address translation which makes a decision to translate packets based upon both the source and destination. Typically, only the source IP is matched when identifying traffic which should be translated. But sometimes, it's beneficial to identify the traffic which must be translated using both the source and destination.
In the end, a Policy NAT is still simply one of the four types of translations we've already discussed: Static NAT, Static PAT, Dynamic PAT, Dynamic NAT -- except the decision of "what to NAT" is done more granular.

Hands down best series on NAT out there !! I have a question - in which real world scenario will be perform policy NAT and translate just the source ? What's the use case?

Thank you for the kind words.
I used Policy NAT's a lot when I wanted my IP addresses to look different when visiting some clients vs other clients.
