- Today we explored a gigantic oil refinery located in the middle of a mayor coastal city. Build in 1883 by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it was the largest oil refinery plant in Europe, with a refining capacity of 60 000 t of oil a year. The territory surrounding the plant through its history was annexed by a total of seven countries, with the last one being Croatia, that closed the refinery in 2008 and transferred all operations to a new location. Today, the place is abandoned besides a few security buildings but as we later found out, some parts are still actively being used. Follow us inside to discover this industrial giant. #abandoned #urbex #oil #plant #controlroom
Fascinating stuff!
Wouldn't exactly say recently abandoned, there's full size trees growing throughout the plant 🎄
Crazy, must just be circuits left on, without security present there is no way the plant is actually active.
Back in 1995 Blue Island Illinois Clark Oil Explosion. I was driving a stake bed truck thew to drop off control valves. And Brite Light n heat and I'm so Glad I lived thew that.
I think the Shell oil company bought all oil production there and built a new refinery instaed of this Soviet one.
This refi ery could be up graded and put back in service.7/14/2022yr
