      @New Jersey Scumbag an ephus pitch is thrown at a slow speed with a very high arc so that it drops downwards into the strike zone. Search for Ted Williams homers off ephus for a famous example of a failed attempt.

      I completely agree.
      When I was 14, i played on a very competitive team. We won a lot, but i was one of the worst players.
      I could throw the ball over the plate with a bit of movement so they'd often let me pitch an inning or two in order to throw off the opposing batters.
      I never gave up a run. the other pitchers could throw close to 80.
      Big change.

      That wasn't a curveball. Astudillo is a catcher. It was a 46mph lob it over the plate aka an Eephus. At 46, it doesn't have enough speed or rotation to do anything else. Its not even coming close to being a curveball.

      Actually not such a bad idea to have this guy pitching an inning or two each game. After five or six innings facing high heat, the hitters are completely off balance when they try to hit a slow lazy floater. Look at Rengifo (the #9 hitter) at 2:19. Completely off balance.

      I completely agree
 for the longest time I’ve had an intense loathing for baseball, and it might have to do with the amount of control over the game the pitcher has or the umpire or something else, but I’ve never felt it was a real sport. If players start making plays like this though, then it would be a ton more interesting. I love creativity in sports, that’s why I lean towards soccer and basketball.

    Its very genius actually. Messes with the batters timing going from hitting 80-100mph pitches to 48-57mph pitches. Also how he will mix it up with inside and outside pitches they will just swing at anything and shortstop will clean it up.

      It's totally impossible, but a REALLY perfect PERFECT game would be ending each inning on 3 pitches. All ground outs, or flyouts.
      But this would involve each batter to swing at the first pitch, hit it in fair play, and not reach first base safely.
      I wonder how many perfect innings there have been? Three up three down on 3 pitches.

    GENIUS!
    Not only does he throw off the hitter's timing, the bat is not meeting that slow of a pitch with nearly as much counter force as it does with upper speed pitches.
    One of the very first things I learned in Little League was to basically not even swing hard at a pitch at all but just stick my bat out and let the ball essentially bounce off of the bat.
    Doing that I was able to pop a hit just over the heads of the infielders pretty much at will. I was always a fast runner so I would steal second and third base then the next hit brought me home.

    He had a super fast rhythm going into the ground out in the sequence where he had the 72mph paint. The next pitch was a euphes again, but he was working so fast I thought another 72 was coming, but he showing down his arm at the last attosecend and threw it 46 again. It might not be pretty, but he's getting it done.

      My fastball has a 50mph range. 10-60mph. Velocity range means little if you can't fire it at at least 90 mph once in a while. In other words, hitters gotta know that you are not all bluff but that sometimes you do have a good hand.

    What would be really cool is if a pitcher could have a wide speed range on all pitches. For example, throw a 90mph fastball and then a 70 mph fastball. Or a change up in the 80s and then drop to a change up in the 50s. You'd always have the hitters guessing. I've never seen an actual pitcher really be able to do that.
