That relay gets a ground (ignition neg [-]) switched at the coil 85 from the ignition, I took a feed from a positive (12V+) in the fuse box and converted that to NEG (-) via a mini relay. So glad that now you understand. @@mav3ric100

Helpful video mate I'm having an issue with steering lock malfunction. Had all the usual fixes done ism and steering lock unit and narrowed it down to a wiring issue. Any tips? Fault is intermittent and tech 2 says its a fault with the cim wiring circuit

Very thorough and informative presentation of Tech 2 work in action. I'm sure it made for a very secure car in the day but starts to be a real pain on old cars. Currently my problem is an unreliable Ignition switch which switches ignition on but whether it cranks is a lottery . I have changed the switch module a couple of times but keep getting this issue erratically. Is it a common problem for SAAB's?

Hi Dave , Yes get lots of can problems on them, check your wiring on top of the gearbox bell housing, really common place to get wiring corrosion. Thank Rick

    Excellent tutorial. Well done.
Does anyone know by any chance why my Saab 9-3 2003 automatic car refuses to start. The key fob goes in, it turns, no error message on screen, but as soon as I put the key fob in the ignition, the steering wheel normally automatically unlocks but in this case it doesn't unlock at all and the car tries to start by turning the engine over, but but nothing happens. Any ideas as it is driving me crazy. If only I had an error message then it might possibly help. This happened all of a sudden.
Please help if possible. I love my Saab and I cannot part with it.

If youve had the batter diconected the steering column lock doesnt work until the car has been driven over 6 km /hr.

    ---
I have a Saab 9-3, model year 2003, version 2. When I park the car and leave it for 8-10 hours, it won't start in the morning. All the electronics work (like the radio and lights), but the engine doesn't get power to start.
To get the car running, I open the hood and connect a cable from the starter relay to the negative terminal on the battery while the ignition is on. The car then starts immediately. After this, I can start the car normally with the key until I leave it again for several hours, and the problem occurs again.
Does anyone know what the problem might be!?

    • @halemotors4084
      @halemotors4084  Před rokem

Hi Adam, you'll need diagnostics on it.
You can turn the key when you go into diagnostics, Forced ignition release is the title.
When you run a global scan it will tell you what's blocking the key.
      Thanks Rick

I've been chasing a fault on my 57 plate 9-3 Aero Convertible 6 speed manual for 18 months.
To start with it was intermittent and only happened in wet weather.
Messages while driving, stability control, traction control, ABS all fail, car still drives fine, after a few minutes the speedo and rev counter bounce up and down like crazy.
This is a pretty long story so, I'm going to stop here, you've given me a few extra areas to check, .
Can I ask where you are, I'm up in Cumbria on the west coast.
I failed to get it running last summer and if I fail again, I'm going to ask if you will look at it, whatever it costs to transport I don't care I just want this car running.
There's lots of info from my Tech II, but it's too long a story to type here, can I contact you via email?

      @@halemotors4084 update on this.
One of many things I didn't mention initially was that I had replaced the engine management loom and that didn't help.
Even though on the old loom a wire providing 12v to the ECU had corroded and burnt out, completely broken.
Made no bloody sense at all why changing the loom didn't fix it.
Here I go again around in circles..
Ultimately it turnout that when that wire had failed it must have drawn a lot of current, there was no continuity from the connection on the bottom of the fuse box to anywhere, the track on part of the PCB had evaporated.
Made a bridge bottom to top through an appropriate fuse and she's been purring for just over 14 months now.
