- "Shockwave", or as Ozzy calls it, "Shockwaves", live at Abilene, TX on 12/7/1978.
This is taken from the "Shockwave over Texas" bootleg, which is one of two SB recordings that exist from the 1970-1978 era of Sabbath (California Jam is the other). Unforunately, it's only a partial recording, and a flawed one at that. This song sounds great though, and is one of the highpoints on the boot. Enjoy! - Hudba
There just aren't enough recordings of Bill Ward. This guy should be celebrated as one of the best rock drummers ever.
Truth Ward's a monster 💥
I consider Shock Wave to be the heaviest track on Never Say Die, and maybe even one of their heaviest. The "breakdown" jam towards the end of the song is super heavy. People rag on Never Say Die, but fail to give it a chance.
Indeed. Like people rag on it because it's not heavy as the first 6 and it's like really? Could you be that close minded. I mean if you don't like it, you don't like it but just because it's not heavy? If it sounds good, it sounds good, regardless of what genre is.
I love Over To You. It sounds like a Beatles song. Plus Swinging The Chain is a great closing track. Bill Ward's vocals on it are great.
Totally agree. The production suffers on it turing lots of fans off. Just my opinion.
I like it. It's not played out like Paranoid or a few others
That and Johnny Blade
@@Oi325 Agree
Never Say Die is a tremendously underrated album. The whole album is great and truly unique.
Air Dance is one of the most hated tracks, but I think it is a great showcase of what Sabbath is capable of. Other than the usual "Evil and dark" stuff of course.
Indeed!!
Air Dance is one of my favs! That bass line is beautiful
Air Dance is a brilliant song. That and Juniors Eyes are my go to songs on NSD
Totally agree!!!🤘🤘🤘
Agreed! Shock wave, Air dance, Junior's eyes, Johnny blade all 5 stars. Hard road, Over to you and NSD are 4 to me..
This is a very rare and very awesome live Black Sabbath song! No one ever has this track live on a bootleg as Sabbath very rarely played it, even on the "Never Say Die' tour!! I love it!!! Ozzy improvised a few lyrics different as he sometimes does live..ha! But it totally kicks ass!! This is so cool!! I can't believe how cool!! I love it so much!!
I saw them three nights later in Albuquerque, the last show on the tour, the last show before they broke up. We made a giant cross out of cardboard covered with aluminum foil and threw it on stage. Geezer picked it up and was flashing it around at the crowd. Good times, good times...
Tony's solo at about 3:15 just kills...and listen to Bill's drumming carrying the solo...whoa!
i totaly agree i made a video of shockwave this version its on my channel
Wow, I never heard this live, Ozz sounds great.
ej0002 how blue suede shoes ohh yeah and am i going insane.
Bill Ward the best and the beast! Along with Geezer Butler!
Bill is absolutely the coolest of the four. Just look at him!
I like this version way better than the original album version...Especially the solo section and outro riff...BADASS!
its hard to believe it, but even though sabbath were going through bad times, Ozzy was actually in top form here! so was the rest of the group, they all showed their skills.
wild hearing this Live, one of my favorites off of Never Say Die Besides Johnny Blade being my favorite song!
The power this song has is unbelievable, awesome riffing !!!
agreed!
best song from never say die
nice to hear it so raw;and without background vocals.
Yeah, the album version is a bit mushy. This version is raw doggish.
the way sabbath is.
most underrated album of all time
Truer words were never spoken my friend
Sofukintru:Never say....DIE,!
The entire band sounds fucking awesome here, especially Ozzy and Bill! And Bill's drum sound is like 10 000 times heavier here than on the album.
great song
Shockwave kicks ass
BILL WARD! A BEAST!!!
Never Say Die IS my favourite Black Sabbath album ❤️
shockwave and all moving parts stand still are two of sabbaths greatest songs ever but have been overlooked by all except by true sabbath fans
completely agree with "all moving parts"
@@kefalosgtx5385 have you checked out the video i made titled the shockwave video i uploaded to my channel its perhaps my best so far
You are damn right.
I saw Black Sabbath in 1978 too. Sammy Hagar open up the concert with his Red album and then Van Halen come on Stage, this was their first national tour and Boston closed the show. Full Night of rock and roll. All the bands played so loud.
Bill Ward is absolutely a great drummer ! One of the best !!!
Such an underrated track, sounds great live! I really like the cover version done by Cathedral in the 90s
Wow, the live version has so much more power than the studio one. NSD should have been recorded raw like this, not so overproduced and EQed.
By far my favorite Sabbath album Never Say Die. Sad the 2 times ive seen them this material goes untouched.
Excellent live version of this rare track. One of my favorites from NSD...love it!!
Shock Wave! Black Sabbath (even in the 1978 period) was still heavy. They put a lot of other "heavy" bands to shame!
Ozzie sounds great on this track!!! They went out on top !!
When I saw them that didn't sound good at all vh run them of the stage
Ozzy was in very good shape here
This takes me back to summer of '89. I just graduated high school and I played this tape all the time while I was living at Myrtle Beach. Lot of memories tied to this. This is an awesome recording too. Thanks for posting.
classic album, it is the most underrated album they ever did! I love it. Bii Ward is sick on it! hell for that matter the whole band is great! its just sad ozzy wasn't even really apart of the recording Iommi took over. Ozzy left , imagine if they stayed together all the great shit they would have done, Diary of a Madman, Blizzard of Ozz Ultimate sin,, Ozzy was writing some amazing shit in the early eighties and if Sabbath would have been apart of it that time in ozzy's career it would have been incredible! Randy Rhoads and the band he had was good, but it wasn't Sabbath, and Iommi was a better guitarist than Rhodes was!
+Matthew mccord It could have been awesome, but its important to note that all the tunes for Blizzard and Diary were written by Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley of Ozzy's solo band.....Ozzy just sang their lyrics....
i agree in part. my favourite albums are sabbath bloody sabbath and never say die. like metalhead says a lot of ozzys first two solos had significant input from bob and randy.overall however some great songs by all concerned
but Ozzy had tremendous help writing his solo albums as well as the instrumentation according to all the information out there.
Matthew mccord i very love this album, i very good remember in my memory all that songs. He created for soul, for brains.I dont make say that about all 7 albums Sabbath with Ozzy, altough i love all albums Ozzy and albums Black Sabbath with him.I want cry when i listen Juniors Eyes like if i listen Mama Im Coming Home.Great album for the soul and heart.Better then Sabbath Bloody Sabbath but Paranoid and Black Sabbath just another.
The actual band Ozzy was in was called Blizzard of Ozz. The Band played some shows billed as Blizzard of Ozz. It was with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake. I like them better than Sabbath. No guitarist was better than Randy Rhoads. Sharon Arden changed it from Blizzard of Ozz to Ozzy Osbourne.
Isn't it ironic that Ozzy's shirt says Blizzard? The future was there on his shirt in writing.
It actually say Bizzard of Oz
no it's not ironic.
Can you imagine if they made blizzard of oz in sabbath. Would be way different. I like randy better tho
profetic just like the photo inside of paranoid.
After Technical Ecstasy Ozzy quit BS and was getting a band together with a name he already had picked, ‘Blizzard Of Oz’, which he put aside to rejoin BS after they had hired and let go Dave Walker from Savoy Brown to fill in. Hence the T shirt. He obviously liked the name and used it for his actual solo career.
This is the second to last show Ozzy did with Black Sabbath.
12/9/78 New Mexico was Ozzys last show
Thanks for this rare gem !
Great album
This is far more better recording than the studio version.
Brilliant band, awesome song, groovy played - thanks a lot for posting.....
Thanks for posting.
Never Say Die doesn't get much play time compared to most of the other Sab albums, but this song (and this version) are definitely gems.
When you're high or drunk enough to be considered "out of your head" one of the things that can help you clasp the concept of reality is music. Because being high is an emotion one can only experience with drugs, and music can help convey emotions in a way that make reality easier to grip. Drugs make it easier to notice this effect too, that music is emotional language. It's usually the physical effects of the drugs that take away from a musical performance after years and years of heavy use.
ozzy is in fine form here.....He is about to "explode" as a melodic solo artist...last of the heavy sab jams....Thank you for posting! We love you!
He was already wearing a "blizzard" shirt too!
Never Say Die!!Great recording of Shock Wave!!👍
Love that song and the Never Say Die! Album... Love 'em all... By far better than any of todays music !!!
one of my 10 favorite songs
Never new this existed, what a treat!!
Way heavier than the album. This is great. Great post! Thanks, Blacksabfan
their best album period
Awesome!!!
Amazing!!! :)
wow i love the studio version of this i think its iommis sound i like the most about it.i love the whole cd too.
Woah, an actual Live Version, I played this out with Shockwave and Juniors eyes in grade 9, I know idea this existed on a recording, Very nice!!!
i remember having the black sabbath story video tape for my 8'th birthday in 95 and this song was at the credits, and it's only now i'm coming across it and actually giving never say die a chance, this song is class
I agree 100%. This and the song "Never Say Die" definitely the best tunes on the album.
Happy 50th Black Sabbath - 2/13/70 - 2/13/20
Damn I wish they let they solo groove a bit longer shit was amazing.

Bitchen live recording! ....Ozzy's singing well, and all in all they were sounding pretty good if you ask me. I'm one of those who really liked Never Say Die, so it's way cool to get to hear stuff from that album done live.
Thanx for sharing this :)
good song
\m/ all Sabbath is all good \m/
blacksabfan...... Thank you.
I love ozzy so much . Inked my knuckles ass well .O Z Z Y
That's love!
Heh heh sure is
I want the cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on my back. It's the most wicked cover I ever seen.
I know. It is
I like the black Sabbath first album
BLACK SABBATH RULES!!!
my favorite song of never say die sounds great here live
Woah,Another Rare Tune Live,I Love "Never Say Day",.A Great Epic Through Both sides,Although Not A concept Album,"Juniors Eyes" & "Hard Road"Are Masterpeices,Every Track is Justified for The Timing!!!
Best track of the álbum then never say die then hard road then Johnny Blade then over to you then juniors eyes then Air dance and breakout/ swinging the chain
In fact, here's the information from the source:
Notes: This is one of the nicer recordings from the NEVER SAY DIE tour. In fact, the clarity of this tape is so good that many have mistaken it as a soundboard!
Carl wrote in with the following comment: "By the way, I'm unsure if you note this on your site, but Selland Arena '78 is also an audience tape. It was recorded with a Nakamichi CM-300 microphones and I believe a cassette recorder..."
Would love to see a video of this song live!
This is fucking awesome.
I just downloaded a bootleg version of this show that had cover art and assuming the picture is of the same show (which I think it is) it looks like a nice little gig, maybe a few thousand people. I looks like it was played in a theater because there's not much of a stage and the backdrop is right up close. Pretty cool looking actually.
FEEEEEEEL THE FORCES FROM ANOTHER WOOOORLD
Of note in this picture is Ozzy wearing a shirt that says Blizzard Of Oz. Seen this pic before but never looked that closely until listening to this great clip
sabbath forever the boys rock hard....!!!!!
Good job and thanks for the rare upload of Sabbath live in Texas on the 1978 tour! Black Sabbath is so medieval and gothic.
I have heard the version from the boot "one for the nose" but not this one. Believe it or not that version has better sound quality.
You have some great stuff and keep it coming!!
ozzy already had his blizzard of ozz tee shirt on ?
@BlackSabbath1776 Yeah, and 'Over to You'!
My top 8 albums from sabs with ozzy are: 1 Paranoid, 2 Master of Reality, 3 VOL.4,5 never say die,6 Sabotage, 7 First Álbum,8 Sabbath bloody Sabbath,9 Techcnical Ecxstasys
All of them 1970-1978 in that order !
I really like technical ecstasy, especially the track "dirty women"
all i can say is wow
Right on Mike, even on a bad day Black Sabbath trashes most other bands. Van Halen are not worthy to even serve tea & biscuits to the members of Black Sabbath during soundcheck break!
Yep. There was a method to my madness when it came to choosing what pic I used.
sad that era had to come to an end; but good for ozzy's solo carreer.
Som bem
Trabalhado do Black Sabbath
Far heavier without the post-production extras on the studio album. CRANK IT!!!!!
I don't know how you keep finding these jems!!! Stu is "searchin" haha
all albuns os ozzy's era was, are, and will be are fuckin' great dudes!!!!!
That fucking guitar solo
Pittsburgh 76 is an FM. Not a SB. Sabbath didn't have many FM's though either until the 80s, so it's still quite significant.
Oh, a very very are live performance of a truly underrated song by BS
Johnny Blade kills...excellent cut.
44 anos do álbum
I'd agree. Fresno '78 is better, but it is also an audience recording (which are common). This is a soundboard...of which Sabbath has very few recordings from, especially from the Ozzy years. This isn't the best soundboard I've ever heard, but the performance is pretty good.
Shock!
this is better than the studio version
ozzy vocals are really good here.
Id love to find more bootlegs with Sabatoge, Technical and Never say Die material. I had no idea they had every played this song live. I have not heard a lot of these songs live. Anyone know if theres a good bootleg of this material live ?
Yeah, and he does at other times as well. The song is called "Shockwave" though.
