The first time you boot your ThinkPad you should use System Rescue CD and run the command shred /dev/nvme0n1 after that finishes you should install your favorite Linux distribution. I use Gentoo Linux.

Installing Windows updates is sometimes catastrophic. It installs driver updates that might harm the system.
I'd rather install driver updates from device OEM website.
