looking back at this almost a decade later I realize how well the video is crafted. the whole song is based on the feeling after getting your heart broken recalling the stop signs and red flags you ignored at the beginning, saying "yeah, I knew this was gonna happen and I fell for it anyway" and the video captures that feeling perfectly. it's a continuum of realization and imagery like puzzle pieces being put together, a "kaleidoscope of memories" if you will (which I never understood but that lyric makes so much sense now). the experience is symbolized as an event, and beginning, end and middle are mixed together disorderly like someone looking back and remembering all the little things leading up to this one big situation. after this event she wakes up in the middle of nowhere, realization dawning on her, a clear reference to "losing me, losing who you are" and several imageries rush back to her, recollections of everything that led to that moment and changed everything. as the video progresses we constantly look back, though we're aware that she's still in the middle of nowhere in "now" but we're diving in and out of bits of memories of all the red flags which is exactly what the song is about. and also one more thing about the song is that triple "trouble" part almost feels like the warning sirens that flood your mind when you see someone and you "know he is trouble". you know how alarms go off in your brain like "trouble, trouble, trouble". I am extremely sure that it's all Taylor's vision like she intended it to be that way, I don't think it's the producer's doing.
