I also hate the packet sauce. They use to have some warm sauce right next to the chicken that was a lot thinner that they'd put over it if you wanted, but since covid they just have those packets.
Im glad so many people here agree with me. I rarely eat the teriyaki chicken, but teriyaki sauce from that packet is fire. Some of the best packaged sauce ive ever found.
You have never had good teriyaki sauce If you really think panda express is good. Sorry, but only the orange chicken sauce and the honey walnut sauce is good not even close to the best I've ever had, but the orange chicken sauce you can buy at the store really hits the spot with some double fried chicken made at home

I just had the same thing the other day, but I had the teriyaki and orange chicken and beef and broccoli with the chow mein noodles and the teriyaki sauce is really good. It’s a 10-10❤❤❤
Whenever I go grab some panda for me and my mother, they still make the sauce in the pan and have the packets, so I have to make sure to ask for the sauce in the pan
I realized that I’m the last 8ish months they started packaging the sauce Instead of just making it fresh. Probably more preservatives now. Still taste good but the original bit better. They don’t even make it at my local panda anymore
You are right! The chicken without the teriyaki is great. If you add the sauce it ruins it. I get a double chicken and they don't skip on it, over white rice it's fantastic.
One pro tip slice up some ginger, and garlic and roast in a pan add the teriyaki sauce to the mix in the pan on medium heat stir until hot and then pour over the chicken to make the sauce taste like og hot mandarin sauce that used before the COVID pandemic. But I recommend trying the honey walnut shrimp, the closest thing that is served in authentic Chinese (Honh Kong) style restaurants.
I used to know a friend who worked at Panda Express. They had to flip the meats around under a heater every 10-15 minutes. If you EVER want fresh food there, you have to request it specifically. I’ll never eat there.
One thing I tried and really enjoyed was swapping out the rice/chow mein for mixed vegetables and using half of the teriyaki sauce packet on the veggies. Actually makes it tastes good and way healthier then its counterpart.
