  • This is a video showing you how i develop, mature, and gut load green and blue bottle flies. A method to ensure you have a steady stream of healthy, and nutritious flies to use as feeders for praying mantids, or any other animal which utilizes large flies as prey.

    Thank you so much for this! I needed help with sorting flies out for my jumping spider. Admittedly, I need far less than you, but this has given me the info to be able to have a steady supply ready for her.

    This was incredibly helpful, even 5 years later! Thank you so much. I'm definitely gonna do this.
    I might 3D print some connectors with sliders since I'm not quite as fast as you with closing things (and also I like to waste time.)

    Just came across this Vid ! I bought an Australian rainforest mantis from you some time ago, for my 8 year old grandson .
    We’ve had great fun with him ( but maybe her ?) learning how to hatch casters into flies… he loves them !
    Thanks again …. We will buy from you again .

    This video is everything I needed, thank you so much. I recently got my first Mantids ( deroplatys lobata) and i was trying to learn how to culture these so i dont need to go to a shop ( living in the countryside) or pay for shipping costs. very helpful and the device you built is also something i will be stealing.

    Thx for this m8. Last few days watched a lot of videos about how to keep them alive and non is what i need and what i want to do with mine. Your video finaly give me some good info. Now i know how to keep them alive so far i was spendig a lot of work to make them hatch few at the time not more then 10 or 15 and doing that is reall pain in the a$$. Now will try this hope they will survive long enough to become foodfor my mantia and lizard.

      Lord 艾艾 Sky you’re welcome mate 😊 Good luck with your attempts. You can also try just keeping the hatched flies in the fridge, and lightly dusting them with bee pollen or some other nutritional powder before you feed them to your lizards.

      @@UnseenUniverse_Mitch yeah but i need them to breed to get new ones because here is winter and those i already have cant live forever and have them more then my mantis and lizard can use.

      @@UnseenUniverse_Mitch hi again. I did try your method and there is one small problem with it. When i mix honey, bee polen and water after 2 or 3 days that mixture starts fermentation and flyes not feeding on it. Then i did next, 1 bottle cap with honey and sponge 1 bottle cap with bee polen and 1 bottle cap with water and sponge, now they are doing fine some of them drink water some eat honey some bee polen and still all alive ones that hatched in captivity and ones i did catch outside.

      Do the flies reproduce at any time starting the cycle all over? I'm wondering if there's a way to make them breed too.

    Can you feed other foods to them? Also, do you just leave the flies out of the fridge?

    • @UnseenUniverse_Mitch
      @UnseenUniverse_Mitch  Před 5 lety

      Brennen Canfield I don’t see why not. Just dust them with any type of nutritional powder before you feed them to whatever you are using them for.
      I keep some in the fridge, and others in my bug room, just depends how many I need over the course of the next few days etc...
