- Just a quick update on the car.For the most part finished, just a couple little things.Heres a walk around and a bit of a Test drive. This actually is the first time Ive driven it down the road.Weather and Holidays so, Merry X-Mas to me. It was awesome so far no issues exept those Pie crust slicks just spin all the time. Barely get on the throttle and they spin. AWESOME Perfect street car other than I think i just went through 2 gallons of Fuel to do this Video.

Typically I'm a Mopar guy as far as muscle cars go.....but any Ford that's packing a 427 SOHC under the hood is about as bad ass as they come
These motors were built in a very short time, not a lot of tried and tried testing by Ford considering. But they were much more potent than a 426 Hemi. If they had the R&D it took Chrysler to get to the Hemi mark 11 ? It would of totally overtaken the Hemi as a reliable next gen motor. Any thoughts on this guy's?
I went to a race one time that was all dodges and nobody won.
Cyclones are hard enough to find in great shape and here you are showing off an 427 SOHC AFX!
Thank you for sharing. TRUE AWESOMENESS!
Even a die-hard Chevy guy like me has to admit the SOHC engine was/is the pinnacle of badass Detroit muscle.
Car sounds and looks excellent.
mickster boone heck a engine that big should make sumthin happem
IM a chevy guy also....29 yrs.gm dealership.love the car the sound.the car., ? R u scared of it.i have built alot of cars have a collectin..an gagged everone as soon as as it hit black top..build it right an u cant hurt it ....dit u build it???
The Cammer is a marvel. Let us not forget the Boss 429, 427 tunnel port and today's Coyote. Just think how far we've come. Yesterday it took 400 plus c.i. engines with high compression to make 425 hp and they'd get 10 mpg's. The Coyote makes (in 2018) 460 hp with just 307 c.i. & capable of 8000 rpm and returns 30 mpg at 60 mph. I love yesterday's hotrods. They're simple and you can see the engine when you open the hood but today's factory hotrods will spank the old ones bad. Example: 2018 Mustang GT w/PP1 is good for 11.83 in the quarter.
@@Pappy63 Those new 3rd Gen Coyote V8s make close to the same output as the old Cammer did back in the 60s.
@@CJColvin I wouldn't go quite that far. According to resources through Ford, in single four-barrel configuration the SOHC made 615 hp and 657 with dual quads and 515 lbs/ft of torque. That's leaving the modern coyote pretty far in the dust.
Those SOHC 427's were way ahead of their time.Unbelievable horse power.Had the privilege to be inside and around these engines in their day.The valve train is a work of art.Dove Engineering has got so many nice parts for these now. There's more parts for these now than when they were drag raced in the day.Beautiful car......
I'm a kid all over again. These type of cars were the thing and are forever etched in my mind as the baddest era drag cars.
This is the BEST LOOKING Mercury ever MADE... IT'S BEAUTIFUL !
I agree. But a 49 Mercury and a 64 Marauder look sweet too.
OMG!!! I have some many goose bumps just listening to this car idle. I love this era of muscle cars and their big block power. Can't help the goose bumps. Awesome car. Thanks for the thrill.
I could loop play this audio 24/7 and I would never remove my headphones. The best musical instrument ever created.
This car is perfect... I wouldn't change shit about it..JUST BRUTAL! and I need it in my life....
You have that Comet set up perfect! One of the most beautiful I've ever seen and containing the most awesome power plant to ever come out!
You're absolutely right
A thing of beauty!
What a fantastic noise that Blue Oval big-block creates, and the car is absolutely gorgeous...
I'm givin' you a thumbs up just for your screen name, my Brother.
Paul Munro from NSW little country town in Australia builds this engine to immaculate perfection , he started the whole thing with an ex Hoolman and Moody dude ! Guys is the coolest dude ever and very humble down to earth .
I'm primarily a GM guy myself but this car is just plain bad ass. A perfect combination of car and engine.
Agreed
What BEAUTIFUL car. Love the 427 cammer.
What an absolutely glorious noise....I LOVE this car....
This is back when america could build a car
Yup you're right about that!!!
What a rocket ship!! 60's cars had just SO MUCH style. This sounds & looks awesome & is beautifully done, congrats to you!
Beautiful, rare. raw and nasty. This is a car that is been forgotten about, then when you see it you won't forget it. You are a lucky man to own a piece of drag race history.
That car is a beast. once it revs a little you hear it wanting to get up and run. sweet ride man. I'm totally jelly.
'65, the coolest Mercury Cyclone ever built and this,, this one is at the top of the heap for coolest!
From idle to 6,000+ rpm faster than you can say "6,000+ rpm." They were NOT "effing" around when they made the 427 SOHC. Not even a little bit.
@Sterling Bailey pfft!
@Sterling Bailey yes Sir Hemi killer
@Sterling Bailey Yeah when I first heard about it I thought it was myth!!!👍👍🚬
They were grossly underrated when it came to hp. 425 hp 🤣🤣🤣. Lol,better add close to another 200 to that figure.
Doesn't look that fast.....beautiful car though
Music to my ears.. and absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! 😉
had a red 65 cyclone with a 289 4 speed 4.10 9 inch. one of my favorite cars. yours is badass.
One of my dream cars, along with just about everything in that era/category from both Ford and GM. Even the small block versions of these rides are a lot of fun.
Ive always loved fords, this car is awsome! My cousin special ordered a 69 mach 1 with the side oiler 427, what a car!
not possible. 428 yes. 427 no.
You could order a side oiler 427 in 1969 in anything Ford sold. It was only in early 1969
I was there, and a friend of mine had one
Sorry, I meant 1966. Early 1968 was the last time you could get a 427 low riser. Right before Ford started making the 428 Cobra Jet out of the 428 Interceptor with some pieces from the 427- internally and externally. Saying 1969 made me look like an idiot
best looking comet of all times the one year 65. me and my family had 3 of the comets all 65 . this one in the video is by far the best looking one in the country. bet it flys
Absolutely badass and my favorite engine of all time from the muscle car era
Damn sweet ride, ‘65 Mercury Comet/Cyclone with Ford’s ultimate engine from a later period, passes everything but a gas station.
Not later period. The Cammer was installed in the original '65 Cyclone A?FX drag cars.
These cars 65 and 66 Cyclones were bad ass set up this way. They jumped like spiders,so cool. Same with 65 and 66 Chevelle SS 427 and 66 and 67 Pontiac GTO 6,5L with a 3 -2 barrel carbs, or tripower. Ford, Chevy, Pontiac, Chrysler, Plymouth Barracuda, later ‘Cuda, Dodge Charger, so many fun cars, didn’t have time for much of anything else. Weekends in the summer, we were all looking for a stretch of flat asphalt we could race on. Many of the best 2 lane roads was just outside of town. We painted a start line, and a finish line at the end of the 1/4 mile. Different time folks, different kind of fun. Loud and powerful, big block monsters, and many small block motors, fast with high RPM, whew, just writing about it takes me back to the time, immediately!
I like the AFX with the shorter wheel base.. I read that the ford factory boys had a AFX mustang and the engine was in the 900 hp range./ Excellente Car Thanks Poster
That's beautiful... Great job.
Beautiful car perfect sound, just went to the top of my wish list.
Magnificent in every aspect, truly a classic dream
Yum! I love them pie crust slicks.
My favorite, Merc's had much better styling than the Ford sister cars.
The red paint and the cragars really set it off
A friend of mine had a '65 Comet Cyclone with a 289 back in high school, it was pretty cool, that car is full bore bad ass. The "65 Comet Cyclone was one beautiful car, one with a 427 SOHC engine, it doesn't get much better. That thing is priceless.
AMEN
That sound is amazing, almost no description does it justice.
What a beautiful car man, I love the 64 and the 65s ! I love the sixties man, I'm glad I grew with these magnificent machines.
SOHC it to me. Bad to the bone car. The Ford Cammer is the most visually exciting motor ever made.
What about the Shotgun Boss 429?
And one of the best looking too. It looks fast even when not running
....in America
@@ricpel9975 Boss 429 were a hemi head design, and really powerful. But the SOHC 427 was the engine that beat Ferrari at LeAn and 3 times, outlawed by NASCAR for being to advanced and too powerful. Held the power record for about 30 years.
@@robtownsend5126 -The engine that won at Le mans was the 427 Sideoiler...Not the Cammer.
That is a berserk merc my friend! i'm very jealous. beautiful.
The 427 Cammer is Best Engine Ever! and this video is Music to my ears!
Thank you for the video!
Well I can count 83 die hard Chev guys that got butt hurt... lol.... awesome car..
I think half of em where mopar guys too
I believe this is the most beautiful engine sound I've ever heard
beautiful,badass machine!
glad to see it wearing modern brakes.
That's nicest 65 Cyclone I ever seen n to have a Cammer motor in it ,yet ! Great job on the restoration !
The sexiest engine ever built the 427 Ford cammer
Ben a 426 guy most of my gearhead days. But this car is SUPERB. I love Mercs an certainly the SOCH is fords best effort. Makes us Mopar guy nervous
Love the sound of that whirring chain.
Absolutely outstanding 👍. VERY nicely done!!
Positively the BEST!!! That thing gives me goose bumps!!!! WELL DONE!!!!
Very well done. That is a keeper ,for sure. Thanks for the video .
I'm a die-hard Mopar guy, and I love this!!!!
Love the irony of the turn signal at 3:56 - I just started busting up when I saw that.
Awesome car and great video! I gotta have me a cammer...
Hey that wicked sweet 427 has a car wrapped around it ! ✌😎
Damn.... that's one beautiful ride !
That sound would put a smile on anyone's face.
This video never gets old
I'm really jealous! "Beautiful Bad Ass Cyclone" I'd cruise this over any modern day Muscle Car.
I'm a MoPar guy myself but there's no denying the cammer Cyclones were some serious monsters, very high on my 'drool list'. It does my heart good to know there are some pristine examples still rolling and not just displayed in museums or some billionaires collection somewhere.... old video I know but thanks anyway, you just made one ancient geezers morning.
in 67 i was a senior in high school. my first car was a 64 comet cyclone. it was black with white bucket seats interior with a 289 hi-po and a four speed. i remember paying $1200.00 for it off a used car lot. glass packs, it was a fun car. my buddy had a 66 hatchback barracuda with a 273 4 spd. he used to beat the crap out of it, so we would go cruising in his car.
Love the old school wheels. And that big block.
Awesome ride. That's what I would call Beauty and the Beast all in one! I would love to see and hear this one in person. Very nicely done.
You're definitely a purist and that car looks absolutely awesome and sounds all the more awesome thanks for sharing the video with youtube
Great job - beautiful build!
Who ever designed Cragars I Love You !!
Cragars, 5 slots, Keystone Classics. That's all you need to know.
This is the most beautiful car on the planet!
i love the Rotunda tach too!
Had a '65 Cyclone, gave it the same grill treatment by blacking out the chrome cross pieces leaving the one floating oval piece. Only had a Hypo 289 in mine, a Cammer would have been wild. Thanks for the video, beautiful car!
very beautiful car with the mightiest most invincible motor ever built in history by anybody love the way that vintage beast looks and sounds
Beautiful Comet you have, done nice with a SOHC motor! Congrats!!
Love the Rotunda Tach, don't see them around. Beautiful car, Love to go through the gears.
427 SOHC, now THAT is a badass, RELIABLE Ford bigblock ! The BOSS 429 couldn't come close, they would break every other time they were run.
Beautiful machine and it sounds great too ! Wish I had my '65 back. Enjoy her ! Thanks.
Wayne..
Frigging sounds like a jet and moves like one!
STUNNING CAR,i dont car what banner a muscle car was built under, this is heaven on 4 wheels
Gotta love a cammer. For the record, displacement was actually 425.9 cid advertised as 425 hp but from the factory were 615 hp. The Ford 427 cammer is a true hemispheric head engine but Chrysler copyrighted the "Hemi" before Ford could.
Beautiful! Awesome build!
I had a 1966 for Mercury Cyclone lived in Belle Glade Florida Sold it to the owner of Palm Beach Mustang Actually I have to say I sacrificed it b Cuzzz I got 500$ for it .....that's about what one hub cost I needed the money for groceries to feed my children!!!!!!! DAMN I MISS THAT CAR! Smoke if you got em n DAMN YOU DEFINITLY GOT EM!!!!!!!That Car there is. FIIRE Tanks for Saying that Video SWEET FIRE🔥
that B a 1966 Ford Mercury Cyclone Damn I Miss that F------ Car That was my Baby b 4 My babies!!!!!!! I was Able to buy a months worth of groceries So I'm Forever Gratfull 4 that But Damn I Miss that ride!!!!!
SMOKEM IF YOU GOT EM! THANKS 4 the video your car is 🔥
I love it brother it looks closely like one we saw in Servierville, Tenn. at the classic car museum. Garrett I think is name of it. This one is awesome too had no heater core, back seat straight axle and 427 4 speed love the old Comets had a 66 cyclone convertible and it got stolen along with my dream for it too.
Man, that is so sweet! Few people have a chance to drive a Cammer. Congrats on a beautiful restoration!
John
That car sounds incredible
What a great ride this was. Being a mopar man I can respect this motor
Awesome sounding motor!!!!! :P And a great looking car, congrats.
Sounds like pretty tall gearing. Sounds awesome. Would love to hear it sing with open headers. Very nice car
Wow man you did a excellent job on that car! It looks and sounds badass! I am a Chevrolet guy. But you cant deny that car is pure old school muscle that you don't see everyday!! Great job man!
I can't believe somebody actually owns one of those things! INCREDIBLE!
Built Ford tough! Awesome car, thanks for the vid.
Car is totaly amazing. Excellent work.
Mopars ruled the roost back in those days, but I sure love the look and sound of that old Comet!
Not quite correct
I think if Ford hadn't already designed the majority of it's cars with shock towers in the 1960's and early 70's, then the cammer would have been mass produced. A cammer powered 68-71 Torino would have wiped its ass with 454 Chevelles and hemi Road Runners on the track... all day long.
+Karl X Easily..The 427sohc is the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine built to this day...They dyno at like 715hp.
+Mike Samra 661hp from another source. John Kaase has a stroked one running 800+.
+A_______A Depends on the carburetor setup. This is one engine that can benefit from bigger or dual carb setup.
The SOHC was quickly outlawed before it could ever start any sanctioned races.
bikinchris Yes it was and it's a laugh when you think of a manufacturer's championship even today because a company putting its best foot forward can't show its best.
Fab car. Love it! Thanks! Outstanding!
What a beast. Love it!
I have to agree with Mickster Boone. I am a diehard Chevy fan as well. Beautiful car beautiful motor.
WOW, very nice ride......enjoy your hard work.
Jeez a ‘65 Cyclone with a damn cammer motor. By far the BEST LOOKING Comet ever made! Its just wonderful! Still trying to find out how many SOHC 427’s Ford made. I see them in cars and think they must have made more than I thought.
Beautiful, love this car.
Very beautiful car mate with the most baddest engine Ford has ever made Jack.
Man this cyclone is hands down one of best cars I've ever seen ! The taste is spotless , the red inside and out , the roll bars , the classic cragar wheels and tires , the way it seats like front a bit higher , the engine !! Man congratulations what a real beast ! What is the colour code ???
Cheers man please , I am building a 79 F-100 Same style , same cue with same engine man , your car is too much of balls man ! All the best .
Greetings from Australia
I realy must say, that's
a keeper! Hooooly smoke! CONGRATULATION
Goosebumps! My blue blood is boiling!
I remember when they came out with the 427 sohc cammer. the chain does require keeping an eye on it,but that is only a small thing...I have always been gm,except for this beauty.
Ed Pink was the best SOHC tuner ever IMO, getting both cylinder banks in synch and keeping them there was no easy thing.
