Great guide! Well done! Love this mod
Thanks Shack, and yep, it's the mod that's made so many of our games fun to play (and watch) :)
Thanks a ton for putting this together! It does a wonderful job explaining some stuff I couldn't easily put to words. :D
How do you get this mod to work on a nitrado dedicated server for Xbox? Nothing is spawning for me 😢
Cheers Spiltsie. I've been using a number of Lucas' mods for a while in SE but this video has helped me immensely with the backend and playing with settings to make my games 'perfectly' aligned with how I want.
You're still mad trying to take anything down with your rifle and squishy flesh alone xD
This is a fantastic guide. I use MES and the associated XML files a lot, but wasn't aware of the chat command integration. That is fantastically helpful for debugging or rapidly setting up a one-time afternoon session.
I like to add my thanks to Lukas AND Splitsie here. Those Mods really spice up this game and are a lot of fun. And now I also know how to tweak it a bit so my own survival base doesn't get crushed by the steady stream of debris from all thos shot down drones :D I can tell you, that WAS frustrating... not to fail against the drones, but to the rain of spacescrap... But I learned from it, as I did from this video. Good job (again) Splitsie!
It's awesome the level of customisation that Lucas built into the mod, I'm really looking forward to some of the other things I'll learn while putting together some more videos for it :)
It's because of Splitsie that I play and enjoy Space Engineers today, the first times I tried to play I could never remember how the tutorials covered anything, but the tutorials on your channel are top notch, so well explained, with great in video examples and without ever being too long or annoying... nice to see you extending these tutorials to mods that change the game for better, keep up the great work!
Thanks for doing this Splitsie. I've been looking for a guide to MES for computer dummies for quite a while. Looking forward to more.
Keep up the great content mate.
Glad to help. I'm hoping to work through the whole process of making your own packs for MES as well over the coming months, since Lucas and I have been talking about it for a while :)
Can't wait for more......... No... Seriously.... Can't wait.... Where's the vid?!?...... AARGH! :)
Wow, thank you sooo much, this was exactly what I was looking for! Great timing too, got Space Engineers a few days ago! Thanks!!
Nice, just remember some of these packs will be pretty nasty for new players, so don't be afraid to remove them while you learn if things go badly :)
I went through some long reading on Steam to figure out the mechanic and decide if I want this mod, and although I don't need this video anymore it was a bless to know about everything you need to know about this mod in 15 mins
Amazing guide! Thank you Splitsie, this video made everything so much more approachable. SE feels like a whole new game now...
great guide chap. might I suggest a part 2: How to add your own blueprints to MES and sharing your encounter pack on the workshop.
yup.. definitly a must... have several blueprints i would love to see randomly spawn... also.. you should cover spawn distances.. ie how close something will spawn.. or even how close it will fly to us....
Thanks Bigol, that's 100% in the plans as I'd really like to remake my old cargo ship one and make it clear that it's more generic :)
@@Splitsie also when you do can you include any process for including modded blocks and scripts in the blueprints. thanks man. looking forward to this.
Also also... if you ever want to do a tutorial on scripts (using or writing) hit me up on discord mate.
Great video as always Splitsie, your beginner tutorial got me back into the game and I have MES installed and love seeing ships pass on over, didn't know about editing settings so I'll have to give that a look; thankfully I'm a developer so XML isn't new to me.
I look forward to more 🙂
You'll undoubtedly get a lot more of it than me then - once it goes beyond xml I may as well be blind :P
Thanks a ton Splitsie! I was starting to get bored with my playthrough in Survival and this may fix it
You know Splitsie, i have more than 2600 H in game, and i still learn things by watching your tuto, and thx for that.
With no doubt, i think your tuto serie on SE are the best avaible for this Game.
Love this mod it makes Space Engineers so much more fun.
"Today I am going to show you one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MODS..." *shows flying rover*
very nice mod, put it on my server, lots of fun, finally some resistance. Forces you to play differently. Thanks Lucas and thanks Splitsie for the intro vid
You're very welcome, Lucas really deserves the praise on this one, I love his mods so much :)
Thanks a lot man I was looking into mods like this one
You're welcome, I'm looking forward to going deeper into the mod in some future videos :)
Love this mod and i 2nd your thanks to him for all his superb mods.
Thanks also to you for this awesome info. Definitely using this to personalise my games.
Remove some of the too easy to take ships and take out a few that are too hard also lol
Top stuff as always Splitsie.
I'm really glad Lucas taught me the blacklist stuff, it's so much easier than I'd thought so I'll be hopefully able to use more of the packs out there since I can remove all the easy ones :)
@@Splitsie worth noting in the playtest that a number of the old spawn ships have been upgraded/changed. R.U.S.T freighter blew up when i was grinding the door to the cockpit.
The mining carriage has at least one more gun and some other changes. I only saw it briefly :D
Great video, only last night tried to set this up and failed. I now understand how the mods and context works. Cheers mate!!!
Great spotlight video! I've found that this mod is a MUST-HAVE for single player or co-op survival unless you're staying in space. In my first survival playthrough, I went full vanilla and I started in space. I found that I was quickly bored after visiting my first planet in the mobile base ship I built in space (AKA "The Brick" ;) ).
It really is the best addition to SE, as no matter what mods you play with there are ways you can use it to enhance your experience :)
Handy video resource. Looking forward to more detail in future videos.
Me too - Lucas keeps teaching me new things whenever I get together with him to work on videos like this :)
Thank you for pointing out the blacklist option! I stopped using the mod because of a couple of the planetary ships would just pause my game for a up to 10 seconds. I rarely attacked those ships, but I just liked seeing them moving through the area giving the game life
It's one of the reasons I don't use some of the packs that are out there, I didn't actually know about how to use it properly until Lucas taught me it so I could properly explain it in the video :P
Great video! Really sells me on the mod. Looking forward to using it to make the star system custom game more interesting.
It's continued to get improvements since then too with Lucas having developed an entirely custom autopilot for the cargo ships and drones which allows for some quite interesting behaviours :)
Just what I was looking for , thanks 👍
I have been using this for several months now I'm glad you finally got around to reviewing it. One thing about this that I find confusing is. it's often not obvious which encounters mod works with the spawner. I mean some say so right up front but many don't clearly say that and I think I have one or two that are just there and don't even work. and in one case I know I had the mes and some other package spawning on its own which was not good because it was really easy to get overwhelmed.
Sadly that comes down to the individual mod author, I'd assume if they don't mention MES then it's not going to be using it and will have it's own methods
@@Splitsie I just don't want another mod screwing up MES. Which I think is going on in my main save. It's going to be a pain to troubleshoot.
thanks great video is some ive been looking for ages but never made sense to me ... this one did THANK YOu
Thanks for this. This seems safe enough. I just went to the moon and it was empty so I decided it's time to look into some basic mods to add bases at least. I don't mind survival but it should have some variety.. I've not seen enemy bases on the starter planet and now the moon is empty so yeah solo survival would be boring a bit without bases..
Great guide, really like the extra installations to attack, but really would like to have a addon that adds more trade stations and friendly installations.
Thanks for covering this! the main reason I play / like SE is for the coop play with my buddies.
I really hope Keen does more with pve!
I know im (very, very) late to this, but thank you so much. As much as i like PvP, my ship building is.... less then amazing and i dont have to worry about getting offlined by players, so this is perfect
And that spawn per player is what got your teeth kicked in with your already tweaked game in the last WWD :D
MES + Torpedo mod = a salvagers dream. Shoot targets from long range with a SAM system then collect the scraps.
appreciate your community service
"No one is safe from their own piloting mistakes"
Hmmmmmmm
Lets use the word *Capac* For this.
"No one is same from their own Capacs"
Ye better.
How did you manage not to toot your own horn during this video? Assertive Installations is the MES mod I can't live without!
Thanks, and while I kept it quiet this time, I might have plans for covering some of the packs like Assertive Installations in the future :)
Why are you so good to us, splitsie
Got it, Just what I needed, you would remember someone commenting on your assertive mod in the last video, now i fixed the ower population issue, now the mod shouldnt vibe check me as soon as I start the game, it feels like MES configurations was done by someome who doesnt start from stratch on moons or planets, it was wierd...
interesting idea,I may use this to just spawn in the Space pirates (or at least have them invade an earth like planet with their basses also spawning drones).
That is so cool
#222 ^ I'm sure there are a lot of people that understood and I was with you most of the way but it's still over my head; I'm an old duff. I'll have to bookmark this video and play it back another hundred times or so. Thanks, keep up the good work.
I think that's kinda the way I was going with this - it's a bit of a reference material for people to use when they're actually going through the process themselves, but hopefully I showed that it is achievable and something worth doing :)
I enabled a bunch of stuff, saw npc ships while on Earthlike gathering ores, prayed none of them noticed me. Made it to space, dug a big foxhole in an asteroid, finally found uranium, attempted to mine it, three corrupt drones spawned near me. Legged it to my foxhole, let my one turret take them out, praying it didn't break. Mined uranium, had a decent base with a hangar door into the asteroid, game decided it was time to introduce me to sniper drones that sit outside turret range and spam rockets.
Had to rebuild half the base. Short on resources, I managed to put together a fighter with some laser gattling guns, as I haven't found any mag up here yet. Managed to mine enough Plat and find an unprotected cargo ship with a load of goodies I hijacked to make a shield for the fighter. Now I'm handing it to drones, and npc hunting. Been landing my fighter on the biggest spawns, take it over, and drive it back to base for keepsies or disassembly. Hijacked the pirate station that's been dogging me since I got to space, grabbed a cool looking ship with a hanger bay I plan to convert to my first large combat ship, and grabbed a giant... thing my base cut in half as it drove by but was still flyable.
Was starting to think the reaver mod was broken when three of them spawned and attacked an NPC cargo ship near me. I used the distraction to kill the three reavers, then loot the cargo ship before flying off laughing.
Loving MES so far. Need to build an atmospheric fighter. There were some big targets I'd love to take home.
How can someone who is able to change mod files like this and custom his game to this level still run out of hydrogen on such a regular basis? lol. But still love the vids. Keep up the great work :)
I suppose the best way to answer that is with another question: how can a brilliant scientist still forget to wear pants? :P
Now we need about 20 more videos on these Mods!
I am going to start adjusting mine tonight to get rid of some things and add more to make the world harder, but not murder my sim speed!
I just got back from my holiday so hopefully I'll get some more out as that was always my plan :)
@@Splitsie that is some holiday! Did you leave the planet? I've been having withdrawals, and after watching the latest Capac video, I think he has gone nuts also!
Great guide! What I miss is the creature (like spider, wolf) spawning function on different/custom planets.
That wasn't part of the mod at the time we worked on this one and unfortunately it's not something I've messed with yet, but Lucas's discord has loads of helpful people who can probably point you in the right direction :)
@@Splitsie Thank you for your quick reply! I have thrown this question like a grenade into the steam workshop page too. It would be great to see a short tutorial about the Config-Creatures.xml config file, how to configure it, how to add new planets (like mars) and spawning types (like spiders), frequency, number of creatures, etc.?
A spider invasion on Mars would be a great new challenge for my X-Server players.
My only issue is early game it can be way too intense getting attacked every few minutes can be tedious and annoying.
Planetary attacks have been added since this video was put out.
Best way I have found to effectively deal with these attacks is to use the missile guidance mod and fire a few torpedos at ships from kilometres away but it's expensive as each torpedo is essentially a small ship.
seriously I could never get this mod to work right ty for this video. it seems so random there are times where I start a new save file and NPCs are all over me non stop then there are times where they just never show up and I get all the way to end game.
Hopefully this'll help you get the setup the way you want it to prevent those times where you meet nothing :)
Me: YAY i finally got this!
Game crash: I’m gonna do what’s called a pro gamer move
I love the detection mechanics with the Reavers. If you are careful you can avoid them altogether at the beginning of your game. They got me thinking and since you have had some experience in modding NPC detection methods: Is it possible to have the "visibility" of a grid change depending on its power consumption, the more power it uses the further away NPCs can detect it and will attack and maybe even affect the type of drones the npcs spawn to attack?
That's something I've thought about for the future (maybe for Reavers, or maybe for something new). While I don't have the behavior built yet, it's certainly something that can easily be done :)
Man, the Cockroach is really agile for such a big ship.
Every ship is with enough gyros. Its one of the shortcomings of the game (imo).
Hi Splitsie, thx a lot for all your great uploads
Do you have plans for more tutorials for random accounters?
I'd like to revisit these when I have time to complete my own mod as I hope I'll get a better handle on the advanced features in RivalAI by that time :)
This is a nice mod, i stole a whole ship from the sky. Works so well
I swear, even if I was messing with a bit of admin-tools creative mode at the time, jumping through the front window panel of these craft was so much fun.
First thoughts in order:
Yay, Splitsie vid ... watch this one now.
Huh? Mod ? Is it a Showcase ? Why intro? I use that mod ... watch it.
...
Minutes later!
...
Oh, so that's what i didn't bother to go through.
Should've done that so much earlier.
Thanks, now I know.
Splitsie Once Survival Unlikely resumes you should secretly adjust the spawn settings at some point to get ridiculous numbers of enemies, I think Capac's reaction would be amusing. Also, do you know when the Survival Maybe finale will be ready?
I might have some plans with Lucas's wave spawner and some special spawn lists ;)
This mod its awesome. Its a different kind of challenge. Its more fun if you Will not use Grind and hacking. If you do this, things gone easy for you. A lot of building components, uranium, Thrusters components, Gold components. etc. I checked Public Test and aparentelly have some changes. Thats Good. For now, I made a personal Rule. No Hacking! And Grinding only defeated ships. Speaking in Public Test, in Your menu... There are 4 logos. In mine, Just two. I made something Wrong, maybe? As always, Thanks for sharing great content!!!
The logos in my menu are for the DLCs, the veteran one for completing the tutorial and the one for the deluxe edition :)
Flying cars amazing
Nice
just wish the game had more of these features and settings from the workshop as an actual client and no experimental mode rubbish. I'd say KEEN have not yet lived up to much expectations after launch as its quite frustrating finding a Basic Multiplayer server still and most features are blocked by experimental mode - and to be honest - strictly vanilla sucks here.. Where its supposed to be the most balanced and 'KLEEN flavor.. Any-case Great Job Splits and YES Thanks Lucas for being more intuitive than the publisher, I think he put in more hours per week than any Keen employee for all we know :P
good vid, may config some stuff
have you messed with the improved npc weapons mod? i cant tell if i like it or not, it uses the star wars weapons. the excalibuster, my flagship has energy shields and an atlas superlaser, its basically unbeatable in vanilla. but whatever the hell they hit me with ignored the shields and took off about a third of the ship in one hit and revealed the core after erasing the whole nose, my turrets eventually won, but that was ONE SHOT... i cant tell if i want this arms race or if i should just uninstall
So i, and a few others from what i can see on the support page, are having a major problem with planets being ALL black. Like everything being all black. Anybody know how to fix it?
It would be pretty cool if Space Engineers added heavy armor for the character. You would use more hydrogen flying and more energy to power the suit's servos, but would be much more durable.
Nice AI Update would be spiders nests. And maybe different races...
Like Starship Troopers 😅
It would be cool if the spiders were something more than they are at present - something you could hunt down to reduce their spawns for a time or something along those lines. I've not heard of anyone working on that sort of thing so we'll just have to make our fun with the pirate ships :)
but Random encounters and Cargo ships have to be disabled to run? Or is that optional so that mes and vanilla Ships/Stations spawn?
The reason those two world options need to be disabled is because MES handles the vanilla spawning functions through the mod - as long as the mod is present, it will handle spawning those types of encounters (handles vanilla cargo ships, and other non-MES encounters like EEM as well) - leaving those world options enabled could result in stuff spawning incorrectly.
Watching you crash the cockroach honestly made my heart sink so much
Fortunately it wasn't in Survival Unlikely and just while I was messing around :P
@@Splitsie still heartbreaking to see something you two put so much love and time into *ahem* aquiring smashed into a mountain 😂
Can anybody help me with the config? I would like to spawn 3 to 5 ships at the same time for the Mod Rival AI, but i dont know how i do this in the config File
Hello Splitsie, Very nice video as always. I would like to know if they are any incompatibilities between MES and any other NPC drones pack that you list here or if they are any combination of packs that is not recommended.
Any of the drone packs he listed will work together just fine with the spawner, and anything in the Modular Encounters Collection will as well unless otherwise specified (ie: mods that increase spawn rate). Beyond this, the spawner was designed to be as friendly as possible with other NPC Encounters / Drone mods as well, even ones that don't directly utilize the spawner features (eg: EEM). So far, I haven't come across any NPC mods that conflict with the spawner in any significant manner :)
now I wanna find a way to make it absolutely carnage in SE
First of all, big praise for all your tutorials, you make great videos. Do you know if there are console mods that attack the base? even if they are just simple vanilla opponents? or is my only option to lure enemies from space to my base? I already setup a dedicated server, but I think it's a bit overkill to run 2 machines for a solo offline world. I liked the concept of the reavers mod where you could lure opponents with antennas to your base.
Or is it possible to play with these mods in a offline pc world? Or are they only "server mods"?
His space engineers saves folder is 45 GBs, oh my
Notification gang
Can I only install the mod Modular encounters and Air Traffic and just play? or I need do the step 7:08? its just for me personal game
I don't need a big war only find something to fight sometimes
I think it is a great mod and magnificent piece of work to put it in the game. I just never use it. I realized I spend all my time avoiding the spawns while playing the game . SE is a not a shooter game and I never have fun playing that way. The only reason I would have MES is when I challenge/torture my self to not mine and I have to salvage. You can not aim down sight (you can but it is worthless because you can not zoom) for me it is an unpleasant experience. You have to have some modded weapons to effectively fight these instead of aimlessly firing at the target hoping to get the turrets but then it becomes easy and feels like a cheat. You could just simply use the "Super Duper Easy Cargo Ship" but the sound it makes just gets on your nerves after a while.
I would really prefer MES to be connected to the economy system where we can have Salvage contracts so these ships can be spawned as a salvage quest. they would sell for couple million credits and you would need to travel 50 to 100km to get them at least.
another thing would be unarmed crashed ships and settlements ships spawn every 200km you fly and settlements after every 40km roaming on wheels. SO that it will make you explore the enviroment.
Are there MES submods or configuration options that allow for MES spawned grids to use any other or specific mods that i have installed besides MES?
How come I can’t enable spiders and wolves I can tick the but they redisable themselves. I noticed yours were enabled.
Hey Splitsie. Digging up a past video tutorial,.
How do you display the Status of the Encounters in chat. Say, when an AI sees a target and is publicly shown in chat on onscreen as a warning?
What encounter mods work on consoles I'm new to the game seen a lot of videos but a lot of them doesn't work for me I just gotten the mods downloaded but can't use them cause the console doesn't allow scripts even with in game scripts cut on
Also, do you have a list of all the encounter related mods that you have on the Co-op survival unlikely?
The ones we used regularly are in the collection which is linked on each of the episodes :)
I've also got a pinned post with the vast majority of available ones in a channel on my discord server
Imagine being in that ship and you see that car falling towards you
It was actually flying with vectored thrust, so I imagine the first response would be 'What the?!' then laughter, then realising it had a gun, and then more laughter after taking it down :P
I can not find the storage folder as to which the modular encounter file is in, but it is now called modular encounter systems not spawner, i want to be able to edit the file so that i get many spawn as this mod barely works and very raely spawns bases in.
Very rarely spawns bases or enemy ships at all, even if i travel around everywhere to trigger spawns, i have all the attached mods like surface encounters and reavers ect like this video has
@Splitsie
Hey there, i usually don't make requests but.... i am more than frustrated by the vanilla multiplayer on the official servers (just turned a capital ship on its head due to lag)
Could you make a little video about how to make the most of multiplayer, since Keen obviously is not to trust here? ^^
I'm not in a good position to offer much advice on that - the only multiplayer I've done is with Capac or with another bunch of CZcamsrs so my experience is fairly limited :(
From my perspective though, the main way to have the experience you want out of multiplayer, is to play with people you know, which is much more easily said than done
thanks splitsie... and lucas....
Hey splitsie im trying to access the modular encounters ini stuff and whenever i go into my world folder the storage file just doesnt exist? Any idea as to what could be causing it?
Just for clarification, if I add blueprints into the mod serverside (or on my locally hosted game), the other players don't need to have those blueprints, right? I would assume they don't at least..
Maybe somebody can help here. Can't get answers elsewhere. This mod just randomly stopped working on our server. Nothing spawns anymore. At all. Anybody seen this issue before?
I want to say a big thank you to Lucas for his mods and for his indispensible help with putting this video together. We're very lucky to have someone so talented and dedicated adding more NPC content to Space Engineers, I suspect the 70+ thousand people subscribed to MES feel similarly :)
MeridiusIX has definitely been one of the (or possibly even THE) people who have taken this creativity sandbox of SE and made it A Game. Of course, some of his mods do seem to show a gleeful malevolence to players xD
This is great! Ive always had issues though where no matter how far i travel on the earth like planet, I never find any of the surface occupation bases...
I really enjoy the mods Lucas has created and I am looking forward to his tweaks once this economy is out.
Thank you for educating me on how to use MES but was wondering if you could do another like Build Vision and Text Hud API. Also big fan of the "Escape... Unlikely... Series" hope to see more Capac shenanigans -(definition: high-spirited or mischievous activity).
Hello Splisie, do you actually know how all this stuff you need to do in the filebrowser works for multiplayer servers like on nitrado?? I also trying to figure out how to increasce the ingame speedlimit but i have a hard time because there is nothing about multiplayer servers at all, and i´m not sure why it is?
