  • The new Yokomo RTR drift car: www.avantlink....
    I have been having a lot of fun getting used to this new car from Yokomo.
    However - it has been overall a little difficult to drift - and my theory is that is due to the stock alignment they ship it with.
    In this video, I take the car to my local drift track and do some tuning to find a baseline tune that is BETTER than the factory setup.
    This car is still stock except:
    - DS Racing wheels, 1mm wider offset than stock: www.avantlink....
    - Yokomo DRC tires: www.avantlink....
    - ReveD RS-ST servo: www.avantlink....
    - Yokomo DP-302v4 gyro: www.avantlink....
    Yes - it is still running the stock brushed ESC and motor.

    My kit edition of this had huge toe in and therefore hardly any steering angle (half what I would deem as normal) based on the 'factory settings' so this is helpful for its first outing. Thank you Troy. Happy New year mate

    Troy, I think that’s what my local team meant by the YD-2Z being “hard to drive”. Perhaps all it needed was just a proper set-up, something that I think most newbies will be too intimidated to do.
    But that’s why I do enjoy the YD-2 and is a testament to just why they remain so popular.

    • @RoadsideRC

      Agree - the car is a handful, which might be great for more seasoned folks, but unfortunate for people just getting into the hobby - which is who this car is targeted towards.

      @@RoadsideRC do you know it would be a really interesting comparison? What you feel the RTR car is, after your upgrades, after you’re tweaking versus the YD-2ZX, which is a high-end chassis with all the bling and the same electronic components put in it. I wonder if you would feel much difference in one compared to the other just comparing the chassis. I’d also be interested to see what the final cost difference was. One of the things I like about that kit is it has all the fancy nice upgrades but it’s very expensive. I am 100% new to this and looking at an RTR is obviously a cheaper way to go but then there’s the inherent upgrades that seem to be necessary… And based on your videos clearly some tweaking. I wonder how much the actual aluminum and carbon fibre upgraded components make when it comes to the actual driving feel of the vehicle. I wonder if it’s just a placebo effect. Because honestly if the stock chassis and all of the plastic parts, give you the same feel that’s a huge amount of money the average person could save.

    Thanks once again! I did the front end exactly how you did. I might add a little more camber for my local track. It’s a hard surface, not carpet. Other than that, it looks way better than before… haha

    This is great! Even though I don't have a Yokomo (I'm MST), I am a noobie so even learning the terminology and cause & effect of the different suspension settings is helpful.
    Have you thought about doing side-work? Folks could send in their cars and you tune them for a fee? I don't have much of a drift community in my town so its hard to learn and pick up from others, but I feel there's a lot left on the table with my rig.
    Thanks for your videos

    My local rc shop fully assembly my yd2z and tell me that if front tyre to tyre wider than rear tyre to tyre then It will make car easy to control.
    So he set my front wheel 6 mm+1 mm spacer= 7mm offset and rear 0 mm wheel+ 1 mm spacer offset.
    But I don't know that difference because I'm just beginer.
    What do you think or may be You can compare this to the next EP.?
    Thank for sharing your setting I will try it!!!

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Před rokem +1

      Setting the front wider is a very common setup tool. Typically used more to help make the rear snappier.
      Honestly, I find it typically has a minimal impact.
      The wheels I have on the car now are adjustable offset, so would be easy enough to test.

    I have a question I am looking for my first drift car. I live in Japan and I don’t really have a budget within reason. I read that the RTR is kind of a bad idea because the electronics are trash and you will be upgrading fairly quickly. I would also prefer to build the car vs pre-built. I am considering the RTR, YD-2dSX III, or YD-2zx……..any suggestions????

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Před rokem

      The answer really depends on your goals and your prior experience.
      I assume there is a drift track near you, or you plan to travel to one. That is great - as the people there will be a GREAT resource to help you get everything setup correctly on your car.
      If you have prior RC experience - combined with a track full of people to help you - then starting with a kit is a good idea. If you do not have those things, then I highly suggest you start with a RTR.

      @@RoadsideRC unfortunately I’m extremely introverted and don’t really like approaching random people. I have never done it before but really like building models and what not. I normally prefer to buy high quality products vs temporary ones that might be frustrating. I am still considering the RTR, and maybe just immediately change the gyro/servo…..but also read the air shocks are meh. That’s why it just seemed to start at a better base
