    I love that you guys show the stressful and tuff times. The real port of boating. Thank you for being real.

      I KNOW that our experience as a couple on this trip is not unique. I do think sharing those tough times is less common. I think people find it helpful...there is always a suspicion that this trip isn't always beaches and sunsets so seeing that it is NOT reassures that it's still possible to do it, have the usual stressful and irritating moments with each other and still survive. Almost 35 years together! Thanks for watching @mikesheelar4617!

    The concept of locks and raising and lowering water levels fascinates me... thx for the post...

    Every looper that is planning on doing the loop should see this video. It shows that the trip is not all roses and that there are obstacles and trials that will test your endurance.

      It can definitely be exhausting. It's a real balancing act deciding when to push on and when it's time to stop. While there are definitely some "amazing" times, there are lots of moments where the adrenalin runs, and some times of extreme boredom! It's not all beaches and sunsets. Honestly sometimes when I really think about it, I can't believe we've come this far. In early July we decided we'd just keep moving forward and if we felt like going around the next bend, or island, or across the bay we would. And if we didn't, we'd go home and happily find something else to do!

    Try putting your tablet in night mode to help reduce glare in the early morning departure

    I sure do enjoy the videos of you guys handling the boat. Especially when things get sporty and frantic I know it’s worse in person and waves never look as big on camera but it’s great to watch and listen along through the headsets!! Keep up the good work

    Well goes to show you don't need to be out on wide Open water to have chop going on. And you said that was an 84 ft drop on that first lock I didn't know they made locks that high, wow.

      Yes, the Welland Canal also had a few very deep locks. You only really realize just how far it is when you see the time lapse!

    Great video! And that video of our boat next to the wall brings back scary memories! 😮 It took us a while to figure out we had to loosen the line to get further from the wall and just keep an eye on the boat! So much better once that lock door closed! With your permission, I will share this video on ours of passing through that so people can see the clip on your channel! I think we have video of you all also!

      I guess that should be obvious, but I'm not sure I would have thought of it right away!

    We were coming up river and had a terrible storm come up behind us as we were coming into the chamber. The wind picked up as we entered the chamber and blew us in. The lock operator tried to help by closing the gates which only amplified the wind. One big gust blew us into the chamber wall so hard it cracked the railing.

      @gothatawaychrisandsandra  Před 8 měsíci

      Yikes! Don't they usually close the locks when it's windy like that? Although in your case it was probably safer to get you in and tied up? Were there other boats in the same situation as you?

    what is that that you have above around 4:35 minutes? a tablet? a computer screen attached to your phone? did you rigged it to sit there? I LOVE IT!!! Its giving me ideas!!!

      Above Chris' head? That's a raspberry pie with pican. He runs open cpn, we monitor the battery and solar, and a bunch of other things. We have a tablet on the helm I a holder...and we have an old surface go that runs things that only Chris seems to know about.

      @@gothatawaychrisandsandra it looks like a tablet or small computer screen that has been installed with a wood casing to hold it up there.
      But the pecan pie looks good too!!! Lol

      @carpediemwithLesli yes that's the one I was describing. I'll get Chris to explain it more fully when we are cruising straight lines!

    We really enjoy watching your videos… one day, we’ll do the loop as well.
    I see you have the Sena Bluetooth headsets, do like them ? (Other models tend to fall off your head, but your model seems to hold better, is that right ?). What model are they ? Thanks.

    • @gothatawaychrisandsandra
      @gothatawaychrisandsandra  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes, they are the SENA SPH10. They stay on our heads...I sometimes have a bit of trouble sticking them behind my ears when my curls are "fresh"! ;) In all honesty, they are a bit finicky to pair sometimes. About a month in, one headset quit working and we sent it back. They were very good about replacing it (we had to pay freight to Canada). We've had them "unpair" a few times at very inopportune times (see our mooring ball episode; oh, I cut out the worst of it!!) We've also had one boom mic fall out and sometimes it's not a pairing issue, but we have to push the mic in further. So, finicky, but when they work they are amazing. We've become used to the pairing issue. Others have said it is because one is the dominant set (meaning that one initiates the pairing) but I haven't paid attention to see if that is true. I need to put a sticker on one of them!

      Thanks for your reply and feedback regarding the SPH10 - we just ordered them 🤞

    Im linking this video in our video dropped today, because there is a part that shows you in front of me almost hitting that lock wall that day! Safe travels🛥👍
