I’ve been to Chimney Rock several times. Yes, there are some longer hiking trails there, but the actual rock is fairly easy to access. You drive a ways into the park to a parking area and the last time I was there was an elevator that took you up to a gift shop. From there a set of stairs to the top of the rock. Spectacular views! Also, The Last Of The Mohicans was filmed there.
You two have a great chemistry together and you are so entertaining to watch. Please do more collabs in the future and re-visit some of these hidden gems when they're open. That would be super cool as well. Really enjoying the videos!😃👍⚘
You missed it Adam. The old Chimney Rock boys camp, now a residential community called Firefly Cove, served as Kellerman's Resort in Lake Lure. All of the interior dancing scenes, Baby carrying the watermelon and practicing on the stairs, Johnny's cabin were filmed there. Edit - I copied this from a website. I can't vouch for it 100 percent. My wife told me that there were some shots filmed at Lake Lure. That is all I know.
Adam definitely has a video of the lake lifting scene somewhere on his channel. I rmbr, there was basically no water :( where it was anymore, and he stood on a tiny rock basically where it happened. I do not rmbr if it was the same spot where the inside scenes happened as well though.

Lake Lure is famous for were the filming locations of Dirty Dancing, Last of the Mohicans and many more. Please come back to this area again there's so many more things to see and do. Oh my goodness Adam I wish I had known where you were going to one of my recent stomping grounds! By the time you read this-if you do read your comments and are still there-I wish you could go to Saluda, a tiny little town with a wonderful history. It is tucked away like a little gem at the top of the Saluda grade, where foothills turn into the Blue Ridge Mountains. There was a train track built in the late 1800s that was the steepest main line railroad east of the Rockies. Many of the stores on Main Street are original, and you can feel the history. It’s like going back in time. I was living in Saluda when I first started watching CZcams, and found your channel.

I haven’t been down to N.C. yet as I have family from there but these places are really interesting. I hope you two were able to wash your cloths when you got back to the hotel. So many beautiful scenes in this video incredible how the rocks with the water flowing over them at the stream so gorgeous! And what kind of stuff was scattered all along on the side buildings it was hilarious A tiger in a cage, a crocodile, big boy hamburgers, you name it and it’s there. Some of my earliest childhood memories center around that area, especially Chimney Rock. You walked past the restaurant that my parents took my brother and I to every time we stayed in Chimney Rock, and I suspect the little motel that we stayed in as at well. As a point of nostalgia, for me at least, I stayed in that same motel and ate at the restaurant too back in 2009 when I was on a solo vacation. By the way, the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area was used for location shooting for both the "Dirty Dancing" and "Last of the Mohicans" movies.
Adam, I remember many years ago going to that place in Hendersonville with all the statues outside. It use to be a restaurant and I think there was another building behind it that had antiques for sale. That has been over 20 years ago. I had friends who lived in town there. We went to the Apple Festival there that year. The area is famous for its apple growers. There use to be a large gift shop right off I-26 there called the Pottery Barn I think that we always stopped at and bought apples, etc. We also use to go through Chimney Rock and buy the kids gifts, stop along the river and visit the Old Cider Mill store in Bat Cave where they actually pressed apples and made cider in front of you. Oh those were such good times. Simple, we just went because it was our tradition. Family was all together then, happy times. Now the world is so complex. Everything expensive. Everything different. So many places are gone. Breaks my heart to think about it on one hand but those good memories add a moment of peace to me now that brighten me up and give me hope. Thank you for showing the area.
I live in Greenville SC, about 40 miles from Hendersonville NC. I love the Appalachian mountains, and the blue ridge parkway. Glad you Finally discovered it.

Adam, When I saw the church in the distance it reminded me. There are rural churches in the middle of the NC mountains with Italian inspired religious frescoes by a famous artist and NC native Ben Long. There is one is in Glendale Springs NC and the other is in West Jefferson NC. There may be more.

I live in Hendersonville. Piggy’s is the ice cream shop, Harry’s is bbq eating hole, our best kept secret of great food! Also the walls are filled with memorabilia, license plates, statues, very cool ambiance. Wish it were open for you. Lake Lure, they filmed Dirty dancing there. This area is apple country. I haven't been to Chimney Rock since October 2014. I wrote my name and my sister's name, Lisa on top of a wooden rail at one of the lookout points. I will treasure that forever because my sister passed in February 2015. So Chimney Rock was our last trip that we had together. 💖
I was born and raised here in North Carolina. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure is one of my favorite places in the mountains. Some of the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed near there.I did a boat tour of Lake Lure and the guide said there is a town under Lake Lure. The views from the top of chimney rock are amazing!
Yes. The town was called Buffalo. There was a cemetery they had to move to make the lake. Did the guide tell you about the old Speedwagon that they pulled from the lake?
Here's to my very good friend, Johnny Roadhog who grew up in and loved Bat Cave, North Carolina. He told me lots of stories about it, including how as a teenager one of his jobs was to cleanup the trash left behind by tourists at places like Devil's Rock. Sadly, he is deceased, but he and Bat Cave are remembered.

I’ve been to Chimney Rock and also Hendersonville several times! Just Beautiful up there!!! Stayed on the Cherokee Reservation once too!! Living in Florida, that area is a great way to see Mountains not super far like the Adirondacks, which I’ve been to many times when I grew up and lived in NJ😎Adam, you definitely should have bought some boots for this road trip🤣side note...The Amityville house is in the town in NJ where my son lives😳been by it many times!
The French Broad River overflowed it’s banks several decades ago in a historic flood, which also left many of the big boulders you see in the riverbed now. The dilapidated structures you showed were once thriving businesses. It seems that the trade-off for living in beautiful places is the potential for natural disasters that can happen out of the blue. Most are once in a lifetime events, but leave behind a trail of devastation, with the scars visible until nature covers them over. There was a fire on Rumbling Bald a few years ago, but that’s a story for another time. Carry on Adam!
A few movies filmed at Lake Lure/ Chimney Rock! Fire starter, The Last of The Mohicans, Dirty Dancing. Also, in Asheville, you need to look for The Mountaineer Inn! There is a Neón mountain man that moves! We stayed there back in the early 70s! You would love it! Used to go to that area a lot back in the 70s, 80s, and take Hwy 25 back to Greenville SC. Hwy 64 takes you back to my hometown, Asheboro, and also Ramseur. You ran into a Goldmine in NC, or at least… a bat cave 😉 Pisgah Forest is close too, very cool, and has a large roadside waterfall.
This is funny to me. When I first moved to FL, I discovered your channel back when you had the theme song. And now, you're in my In-laws' town. We drive by those giant statues to get to their house driving from FL.
You should have gone into that hotel at Lake Lure. I think they filmed some of Dirty Dancing there. That hotel is CREEPY! I've only been in the lobby but that was enough for me. No way I would sleep there.

My friend's uncle owns the apple farm. That tractor was actually broken down on the ground and they happened to leave it over a silo that was just starting to sprout, so what you see is the silo just growing under the tractor, no fancy tricks or cranes to get it up there. I saw it about five years ago traveling from NJ to Florida and it was no more than 15-20 feet tall at the time, so it has grown quite a bit since then.
You should look up the history of "The Muffler Man"... They were all made out of fiberglass by one company and now they are all over the country. You can actually find a map that shows the locations of all the Muffler Men in the country. Route 66 is famous for Muffler Men. The most famous of course is the "Gemini Man"...
@@TheDailyWoo Enjoy that rabbit hole, it's fun reading about their history. The first ones made were actually Bunyans, despite the name they ended up with. The "prospector" was from the short-lived restaurant chain "Wagon Ho!" The buildings were made in the shape of a covered wagon, and he was the driver. The arms are in weird positions because he was holding a whip and reins (imaginary ones, I think, because I've never seen a picture of one on the restaurant with anything in his hands). They were originally in seated positions, but some later got converted to standing upright.

Actually the producer of the movie said the lake lift scene was filmed in virginia at the mountain logde inn.

I haven't been to Chimney Rock since October 2014. I wrote my name and my sister's name, Lisa on top of a wooden rail at one of the lookout points. I will treasure that forever because my sister passed in February 2015. So Chimney Rock was our last trip that we had together. 💖

I was born and raised here in North Carolina. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure is one of my favorite places in the mountains. Some of the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed near there.I did a boat tour of Lake Lure and the guide said there is a town under Lake Lure. The views from the top of chimney rock are amazing!
Yes. The town was called Buffalo. There was a cemetery they had to move to make the lake. Did the guide tell you about the old Speedwagon that they pulled from the lake?

Here's to my very good friend, Johnny Roadhog who grew up in and loved Bat Cave, North Carolina. He told me lots of stories about it, including how as a teenager one of his jobs was to cleanup the trash left behind by tourists at places like Devil's Rock. Sadly, he is deceased, but he and Bat Cave are remembered.

Was at Lake Lure in a cabin in October! Our family goes every year. I used to live a few miles from there. Love it!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’ve been to Chimney Rock and also Hendersonville several times! Just Beautiful up there!!! Stayed on the Cherokee Reservation once too!! Living in Florida, that area is a great way to see Mountains not super far like the Adirondacks, which I’ve been to many times when I grew up and lived in NJ😎Adam, you definitely should have bought some boots for this road trip🤣side note...The Amityville house is in the town in NJ where my son lives😳been by it many times!
The French Broad River overflowed it’s banks several decades ago in a historic flood, which also left many of the big boulders you see in the riverbed now. The dilapidated structures you showed were once thriving businesses. It seems that the trade-off for living in beautiful places is the potential for natural disasters that can happen out of the blue. Most are once in a lifetime events, but leave behind a trail of devastation, with the scars visible until nature covers them over. There was a fire on Rumbling Bald a few years ago, but that’s a story for another time. Carry on Adam!

The French Broad is in Buncombe County over on River Road through Asheville and on into Madison County. FYI

A few movies filmed at Lake Lure/ Chimney Rock! Fire starter, The Last of The Mohicans, Dirty Dancing. Also, in Asheville, you need to look for The Mountaineer Inn! There is a Neón mountain man that moves! We stayed there back in the early 70s! You would love it! Used to go to that area a lot back in the 70s, 80s, and take Hwy 25 back to Greenville SC. Hwy 64 takes you back to my hometown, Asheboro, and also Ramseur. You ran into a Goldmine in NC, or at least… a bat cave 😉 Pisgah Forest is close too, very cool, and has a large roadside waterfall.
Also, there is an elevator in the mountain that takes you up to Chimney Rock.
This is funny to me. When I first moved to FL, I discovered your channel back when you had the theme song. And now, you're in my In-laws' town. We drive by those giant statues to get to their house driving from FL.

You should have gone into that hotel at Lake Lure. I think they filmed some of Dirty Dancing there. That hotel is CREEPY! I've only been in the lobby but that was enough for me. No way I would sleep there.

Had my honeymoon 23 years ago on Lake Lure. Stayed in the little cabin and we paddled canoe to the Dirty Dancin swim scene. Was fun!

My friend's uncle owns the apple farm. That tractor was actually broken down on the ground and they happened to leave it over a silo that was just starting to sprout, so what you see is the silo just growing under the tractor, no fancy tricks or cranes to get it up there. I saw it about five years ago traveling from NJ to Florida and it was no more than 15-20 feet tall at the time, so it has grown quite a bit since then.

You should look up the history of "The Muffler Man"... They were all made out of fiberglass by one company and now they are all over the country. You can actually find a map that shows the locations of all the Muffler Men in the country. Route 66 is famous for Muffler Men. The most famous of course is the "Gemini Man"...

The "prospector" was from the short-lived restaurant chain "Wagon Ho!" The buildings were made in the shape of a covered wagon, and he was the driver. The arms are in weird positions because he was holding a whip and reins (imaginary ones, I think, because I've never seen a picture of one on the restaurant with anything in his hands). They were originally in seated positions, but some later got converted to standing upright.
