    I think this is the second video I've watched of yours. I'm currently working on designing a city building game and am doing some research. In any case I love the the accent and you two are fun to watch. Thanks for the content 😊

    If Lisboa is not about rebuilding the devastated city of Lisboa, then I don’t know what to think anymore! I guess I’ll have to wait for the Top 10 City Rebuilding Games of all time. Still not sure how all of those VILLAGE games snuck in there. I demand a population recount!

      It is absolutely, and was on my short list. But, it doesn’t feel like a city building game to me. The theme is of rebuilding a city, but it doesn’t give me the city building vibes. If you look at all the games on my list and then look at Lisboa, for me at least, it has very little in common with what I think of as city building :) If that makes any sense 😅

    Great list! I was unaware of electropolis and will check it out now - thanks for that. We would have small city at the top of our list as well. I'm also a big fan of Antiquity - they're 1/2 for our tastes.

    Thanks for sharing your top 10 city building ‘musicals’ list (multi talented!). 😉 I’m interested in checking out Electropolis and Small City as haven’t heard of these. I was already planning to play Suburbia this weekend and also enjoy Gingkopolis, so great minds…. 😊

    Seems I have 3 city building games in my collection (out of 150 games). I do have several other types of building games, but not a lot of city ones that have stayed put. Kutna Hora, Suburbia and Akropolis. I kinda want to count Everdell as city building, but since the buildings are more cards in a tableau, it feels more adjacent to city building than actually city building. I have a bunch of other types of "building" games, be it hospital, theme park, castle, garden, trees (I actually have TWO tree building games)

    I love that you have Electropolis on your list, but what about Urban Sprawl or Magnate: First City.
    The man who did Small City loved the Idea with the graves from Splotters Game. Where you build the Feudal City and you build on the Map. -> so my Number 1 would be Antiquity. But you need the BGG Tokens and tiny suction cups to lift them around. Its a real good but fiddly game.

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  Před 8 měsíci

      I like Antiquity, but haven’t played it in years. Never played Urban Sprawl. I like Magnate, but not more than any of these :)

    Thanks for sharing this list and sharing some new games to me. City building is my favorite genre, and while I agree with many choices, I was hoping to see some deeper thematic games. A few of these are more abstract tile laying games that happen to have a city-building theme, and with quite a few you just build your own little village/city block. A few people mentioned Lisboa, and this has to be the most thematic city-building game I've played. It doesn't feel like a city builder at first, because we are used to Carcassonne and Suburbia. But to build (or rebuild) a city in 1755, you did have to visit the city architect to approve the plans, visit the king to build a palace, hire officials to place in your public buildings, use the public buildings to drive traffic to your stores and use your influence to make it all happen. It is so thematic and feels like real life! It is also a heavy game and not for the faint of heart. For the few people here that do like thematic city building games like Lisboa, do you have other recommendations? My favorite mid-weight city builder is Faiyum by Friedemann Friese - we are all building a city together, not just our little private village/town. And the interaction is just fantastic! I look forward to hearing others thoughts. Thanks!

    I have a fun idea!
    I've mentioned before that due to crossovers (which are bound to happen) the end of the list becomes kind of odd because the number 1s don't even really get talked about...
    Idea: If one of you says a title that's on YOUR list higher up, start doing the crossover dance, telling the other one that "hey, we'll talk about this later because it's higher on my list"...then, at the end of the list the highest ranked games get talked about by both of you because they're on both lists.
    Just an idea...lots of love!

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  Před 8 měsíci

      I love the idea, but we are too much fans of not knowing each others lists, haha! 😂
      We do talk about all games, but maybe not at the #1 spot (ot wherever the crossover is) if the other person don’t have extra things to add :)
      We can always try to tweak things to make them better, so we welcome all suggestions and feedback! :)

    • @FemmeSensei
      @FemmeSensei Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@BoardGamingRamblings That's the thing though! you wouldn't have to know each other's lists!
      One of you says "My number 8 is Boon Lake" and other one starts doing the crossover dance...and you realize "oh, wow, Boon Lake is somewhere higher on your list! I'll wait to talk about it until we find out where it is on your list!"

    Wow, that list of games on bgg for "city building" is pretty wild, as soooooo many of them don't feel like city building to me. On Mars? Cyclades? Anno 1800? Clinic??? I definitely prefer village building to city building.

    Ginkgopolis has been on our shelf of opportunity for a few months now and this top 10 motivated us to finally get it to the table this evening. Great game and thanks for the list. What would you think of Anno 1800 as a City Builder?

Great game of doing things and getting stuff. 😜 Wife beat me both games, but it was really enjoyable. One more city builder to recommend - Rebuilding Seattle.

    If find most city building games a 7/10 it seems, thats why they just dont maintain their place in my collection... the only 2 city building games (so my 1 and 2) where not mentioned on your list... nr 1 = NEOM; nr 2 = Carsson City the card game... any thoughts on them?
