Hello everyone! It's Jake with Lax Weekly and today we're talking about Syracuse lacrosse, specifically the number 22. This special number has been worn by Gary Gait, Mikey Powell, Casey Powell, Ryan Powell, JoJo Marasco and many other college lacrosse greats. The two most recent #22s - Jordan Evans and Chase Scanlan, have had their own struggles living up to the expectations of the number. It's also rumored that Joey Spallina will be the next #22. What do you think about the number? - Sport
Taking the number 22 on cuse just seems like unnecessary pressure that’ll make you perform worse.

I think 22 to a deserving senior voted on by his fellow players is an amazing idea. It would make it more special that they have one year to show them what you got. As far as Joey coming in, he’s already apparently been promised by the coaching staff to wear it all four years. But I still think the team vote is better option.
Jordan now has a wife, a kid, a second kid on the way, started and runs his own successful business that’s growing. I’d say he’s doing pretty well.

You could make an argument that Owen Hiltz could be the most deserving player to wear 22 since Dan Hardy in 2009.

As I see it, there are two options for the number 22. Either retirement, or do as you recommended in the video and have it be an award voted on and given to a senior player.
Maybe they should do the #22 like Maryland does the #1. They don't give the #1 to a player when they first start at Maryland (it has been done in the past, but not recently). When #1 is vacated it is offered to a current player on the team who has proven himself. And it seems to be a system that works pretty well.
My team wears orange and my friend wears #22. His shot in practice is great but in games the goalies always make insane saves on him. Maybe all orange teams have a #22 curse 🤔

I just want to say, I know you did a video on Mac O Keefe before, but his record should be recognized as well as his road to it. That many goals happens on purpose, not by accident. The dude is incredible.

100% agree. There is far too much hype and media coverage behind #22. I just think people need to realize that is just a jersey number, and not trash a player for not putting up 80-100 pts a season.
I think LaxFactor reported that when Spallina announced that he was gonna be playing for Cuse it was also announced that Scanlan would vacate the 22 jersey for him

The issue is that most Cuse fans are way too intense about their expectations. They don’t understand that Cuse can’t win a national championship every year anymore.

I believe chase should retire the number, he's not a bad player by any means but i think someone like Owen Hiltz #77 i believe should wear that special number that or the seniors should be able to vote on it
#23 is closer to a #22. Gait and Powell could dominate and sway the outcome of the game. Not sure Scany has that ability. But yeah, retire the number. Too much pressure

Kind of jumping the Gun on 'cursed' here. Ya 1st guy was a bust but Scanlon can play and indefinitely doesn't mean permanently. So basically its like 1 and a half guys were crap.
Keep giving 22 to the incoming top rated freshmen at Syracuse, they should accept it as an honor and huge challenge, stop "babying" players by saying wearing 22 is TOO MUCH PRESSURE...kids today are soft...grow a pair younger generation...and take on challenges.....

Scanlan will be a senior next year and Spallina will start playing there the season after. They won't overlap unless Scanlan takes an extra year

Chase Scanlan has got to be the most overrated player in lacrosse this year right? Guy racks up goals in blow outs against teams like Holy Cross and then absolutely disappears in big games. Plus he literally gets short sticked AS AN ATTACKMAN and still cant get his own shot opportunities....
Cause should retire the number, and honor it, before it is meaningless.
