In Canada, atleast Ontario, we don’t have Public Defenders, we have legal aid. Many good lawyers apart of private firms will accept payment from the government (legal aid) to represent you.

I went to trial on a gun case, 9 count indictment including aggravated felonies for no reason. Went thru 2 PDs and a paid lawyer , all who barely did anything at all I refused all deals and took it to a bench trial after being finessed and told I’d be fried if I went in front of a jury. Worst judge in the county for a bench trial but I didn’t know . Beat him in court and got found guilty of only a misdemeanor and traffic violations , all felonies dropped or found not guilty that day . God is good . I literally felt hands press down on my shoulders , like real pressure and a squeeze right before my trial started I turned around and nobody was behind me . That’s when I knew all I gotta do is do my part and I’m going home 💯💯💯I’ll never forget that . Everyone wanted me to plead out including my lawyer and family . I said no💯💯
