I know your pain. It took me a year to learn how to do really good French braids. I just used CZcams tutorials to learn and they were really helpful.

Same. I use a curly cream or curling custard. They work like gel for me, without making my curls hard like gel.
I recommend while your hair is wet blow dry it a bit (not to wear it's straighten) and your curls should stay that way all day long! :) just an idea!
