I don't understand the reference to 1988. Kennedy & Nixon were the first televised debate that I remember in 1960. There have been presidential and vice presidential debates televised ever since.

I can't believe that a Chiefs player can't express what he thinks without being fired from a football team it is disgusting, we are a free country with the right to express what we believe without ridicule. If this is what he believes then it is what he believes, end of story. I for one agree with him and I am a Democrat and a woman with kids. He is not all wrong with what he said actually if more women were at home raising their kids maybe we would have better kids with respect and off those cell phones. maybe we would have healthier diets be fed to kids and stress on kids. The thing he is missing is the cost of living women need to work to help support financially. If a woman doesn't work now days she is considered worthless and lazy because that is the way our society has it set up these days. Women size up other women by what type of job they have and how much they make and if a woman says I am a stay at home mom it is looked upon like she doesn't even work what a loser. I do agree with that Chiefs player and it is wrong to dismiss him from his career just because he has a view on something that not everyone agrees with. I am so tired of the bickering finding fault in everything, people should have a right to view their beliefs in this country without fear of it ruining their life and their careers. If you ask me this is a perfect example of what is wrong with our country. I love the Chiefs and if you are a true fan of the Chiefs you will still be so and stand by someone who views their beliefs regardless if you agree or not. This player is a human being with his views and he is an American he has the right to free speech and believe in what he believes. If anyone can turn from the Chiefs because of what he said, GO because you are not a true fan.
Free speech is always consequential. A public figure need to think before speaking. Just like no one is prohibiting him from speaking, he doesn't have the right to control how other people react to his statements. It is what it is.
