    Not exaggerating, but this is the most precise and well explained video about infusoria. Keep it up man 💯

    This is amazing content. You have a gift for explaining. Deep enough and still graspable. Thanks!

    Great video! How long does a culture usually last? I'm breeding White Cloud Mountain Minnows and would like to grow my own cultures to feed the fry.

    Do they need to photosynthesis?
    What if i place a heater n a small container and a rotting vegetable matter? And no sunlight or minimal..

    • @AvatarAquatics
      @AvatarAquatics  Před 3 lety +1

      Lance Simon hi, in my video they do not get any extra light. I only shined light on the cup to show you the cloudiness. Usually, the only light they get is ambient light. Some microscopic species need photosynthesis, others don’t. I recommend you start and experiment with two cups with and without light and then go from there. Also, don’t overheat with the heater.

    Hi, is it possible to grow infusoria in the cold? The weather is getting cold now and I don't want it to stink up my house

    • @AvatarAquatics
      @AvatarAquatics  Před 3 lety +1

      depends on how cold. freezing over, not likely and even if you do, it will have very small yields. you can always put a cap on the container(with a breathing hole) and toss if too stinky.

    I've tried multiple techniques to culture Infusoria but it never gets past the cloudy stage.
    Eg I'll squeeze a sponge filter into the jar, top up with tank water, add java moss and add either banana skins, (boiled) broccoli, etc.
    The longest I waited was about 6 weeks. All I ever get is cloudy water with the vegetables decomposing at the top with white scum.
    I even tried removing most of the vegetable matter after 5 weeks thinking it was producing too much scum and keeping the water cloudy, but it never clears and I never see Infusoria.
    I was about to source rabbit pellets based on another CZcams video, but came across this one. What Fish food should I use? Flakes? Ground up pellets?
    I keep mine outside under an awning that gets direct sunlight for a few hours. Have tried with a lid one and others with just a cheese cloth over the top in case it needs air but nothing works.
    Very frustrated. Any suggestions welcome.

      Try adding decaying leaves from natural water body.

      @@davezzz7664Thanks. Will give that a go. I had some Java Fern at the top in case it had some to start the culture

    Hey man,so on Tuesday I started the culture,I put some pieces of plants from my tank,Cucumbers and a banana peel,The water has been cloudy for the past 2 and a half days and I can’t see no living organisms in there,It’s on a windowsill so sun light gets to it,I also stir the water 4 times a day

    • @AvatarAquatics
      @AvatarAquatics  Před 3 lety

      you can try adding some substrate mulm,. What temperature is it at?

    • @ollie05
      @ollie05 Před 3 lety

      @@AvatarAquatics I have no idea what temperature it is,It’s on a window sill where there’s constant sun light but I don’t open the window that’s beside it, I have a tank beside it with betta fry, I can put the jar into the tank so it can get warmer

    • @AvatarAquatics
      @AvatarAquatics  Před 3 lety

      @@ollie05 Winter and colder temperatures can slow the growth of your colony, so I think you are still in the bacterial phase. Adding some more mossy plants/substrate mulm can add more organisms like paramecium that will consume the bacteria.

    Very nice! Very interesting! But without "like": to listen you was excellent, but to listen music background was terrible!
    I'll don't press "unlike" only because the very nice info and your excellent work.
