    Hey Josh! That pump will be a lot of fun in the hot Summer, when someone puts their hand over the nozzle... and the cold water eventually sprays out the top! That old joke just NEVER gets old! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

    Instead of pulling it up enough to drill another weep hole just wrap some insulation around the pipe a couple feet up before you box it in. There will be enough heat coming up the casing to keep it from freezing in the winter! Saves time and effort!

    I had a friend at work that told me about Bison Pumps probably 10 years ago and how good they were. I've always wanted the one that goes on top of your well and works when your electric is out, and you can hand fill your pressure tank in the house. Basically, just like the one you have.

    That is one handsome... pump! The hand pump I grew up with was a cast iron, bulgy and ugly. The handle is heavy steel pipe that whacks you on the face or the chin if it slips your grip while the pump is full with water. As a child I liked to hang on to the handle while my dad pumps. Kind of like see saw. And I liked the sound it made. LOL.

    Maybe once the well's finished, we can see Mrs Stoney Ridge have a slightly higher step on the handle end of the pump so she won't have to stretch so much when the handle is at the top of its swing?

    Looks like a very well-made pump, Josh. The black pipe that comes out of the ground. I was wondering why they couldn’t have been a little shorter? Also, I noticed that you had a little bit of a ramp going up to the concrete pad and where the width of the ramp has like a 2 inch lip on it. Do you think you need to paint some contrasting colors on the concrete to avoid a tripping hazard? Have fun two.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 11 měsíci +1

      great questions....so the well casing is up at about 24 inches tall.....this might be a bit harder for a shorter person to pump water without standing on a stool, however it also makes it quite child proof, keeping kids from hanging all over it is important...the casing is PVC and will break if it's beat on too hard. The pump needs to be high enough that I can pull a cart under it with pots to fill with water at some point also. Now....as for the "curb" ....my concrete guy and I talked extensively about the tripping hazard. The contrast of the dark stamped concrete and the lighter non stamped is pretty significant. I think if we had an event on the farm, we'd probably rope off the curbing or put some flower pots around it so folks only walked up the ramp. Concrete pour vid is coming tomorrow morning....you'll get a little more info in that video

    Excellent video; thanks for the content. Will this hand pump work if you have no electricity? What did this project cost from the well drilling 400'+, water pressure tank, bison pump, + incidentals? I ask because I live in FL and have a deep well for all my water, and I am looking for a way to access the water without electricity. And doing it short of drilling a second designated well strictly for a hand well pump - if that makes any sense. Thank you.

      @connect741 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@charlesbentley2934 Charles, I don't believe there is a hand pump made that can draw water from over 300', but I could be wrong. This system, I think, requires the well pump to push the water from the water table to 46' where the Bison pump can draw water from. So I think but wanted to confirm with SRF if that is true or if in an emergency situation, the hand pump could draw water without electricity/functioning well pump.

    • @charlesbentley2934
      @charlesbentley2934 Před 11 měsíci

      @connect741 I had the understanding that he punched a well 300 feet but that the static water height was 24-26 feet. He put his pump down 40 feet, therefore he should have 16+- feet of water in the pipe that he can manually pump. In case of power outage he can manually pump to his mega shop also. The water vein may be deeper but I'm guessing it recharges the Well to maintain static level. This is only my interpretation of what I think I heard in the video.

      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 11 měsíci

    • @connect741
      @connect741 Před 11 měsíci

      I understand that but hand pump physics can't draw water from a 300' foot well, because it requires pressure way in excess of even the best hand pump. For example - without the well pressure tank the water at the bottom of the well casing will not be able to rise to the 46" where the hand pump can bring the water up the rest of the way. Therefore, without the electric pressure tank the Bison hand pump won't work. Does that sound about right? @@StoneyRidgeFarmer

    • @charlesbentley2934
      @charlesbentley2934 Před 9 měsíci

      You are talking about a shallow well pump. Those have the mechanisms at the top and must create a vacuum to pull the water up. His is a deep well pump which has the mechanism at the bottom and is connected by a long rod (he connected it in sections). The pump at the bottom actually lifts the water rather than vacuum the water. Due to the mechanics, it will not drain itself unless debris gets in the check valve. The weight of the water is the reason for the long handle.
