    My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
    The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it.

    There is a electric heat tape that people have used here in Michigan for many years, made to keep pipes from freezing. That might help your pipes to not freeze.

    In the seventies we bought our , now over 100 years old un insulated frame house in Texas . It goes years without freezing there, but that winter after we moved in it froze several times. wind blew through the house. and it came without any heat source. We got what heaters we could but they were not nearly enough. we were wearing coats inside while we worked. We were sleeping in the bed with several quilts and two dogs and two cats and welcoming their warmth. we have a fireplace in the living room and that helped in the evenings. good thing we were young.
    good luck, don't freeze to death.

    Do you have a plan to manage the variability in flow and pressure from your source? You had mentioned early on that the source changes pressure/flow a lot which will be multiplied across your system as different rooms and uses call for water at overlapping times. It would be good to plan for a pressure accumulator that will provide a much better experience.

    • @Villa_Oliva
      @Villa_Oliva  Před 4 měsíci

      definitely, but the pressure is always high enough, so I think that shouldn't be a problem. I hope. But otherwise we'll have to do what you suggested

    Run some heat tracing along the piping up to the manifold. It's inexpensive from Amazon (here in Canada) and does not consume a lot of electricity. I worked in the pulp and paper industry and we used it to keep gland/seal water and chemical lines from freezing in winter. Cheaper than replacing all your piping. Keep up the good work all the same. Cheers from British Columbia.

    thought about finding a heat source to place in the tunnels for those very cold winter nights ? like a camping wood stove .It would not need to get hot for that small an area and the stones would prevent a fire .?and do they have pipe insulation there ?we wrap our water pipes in it,only a black foam tube but

    Having said that, I would like to ask you a question if it would be possible, even though knowing after you having taken such a collosal project and been very busy with, if you could apply my suggestions. I noticed that while fallowing you every step of the way, like almost virtually been your personal assistant in your project, I wonder when let's say you work downstairs or upstairs at a room, for my or maybe anybody else interested, could you please maybe identify the location of the villa? Personally for my prospective, been as I wrote in the comments before that I am crazy about your Villa Tower, to include let's say that when you are working upstairs or downstairs or the floors of the Tower, actual say for example that you are working upstairs or downstairs at the main Villa building or that when you are working upstairs or downstairs of the Tower second floor, third, fourth fifth or the toppest floors, that you would specify that you are at the Tower, I would appreciate it. Tell me something just for curiosity, could you tell us the type of rooms that are designated at the Tower? Are they only bedrooms? I wouldn't imaging assuming the size of the whole Villa, that they all are only bedrooms or maybe that they are separate apartments? With kitchen and bathrooms and one bedroom or maybe two?
    Again thank you so much.
    I

      @@Villa_Oliva Thanks, I'm mostly interested in the layout of the whole tower and how it's fiscally connected to the rest of the villa building? Or it's completely separated but joined to the villa and does it has its own staircase all the way to the top and accessed by doors, floor by floors from the villa? I sorry maybe I'm asking to much, but don't worry only if you should have time.
      Thanks

    Here in the US we have foam pipe insulation that fits around and over the black pipe to give more protection from freezing. Also heat tape but you could probably not use the heat tape on the black pipe

    There is such a thing as pipe insulators to wrap around your pipes to keep them from freezing g; they are slit to fit around.🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @brendajollymore4229
    @brendajollymore4229 Před 4 měsíci +1

    You should place insulation on the wall. Why don’t you build an insulated box to place around it.

    • @Villa_Oliva
      @Villa_Oliva  Před 4 měsíci

      around the whole basement?

    • @brendajollymore4229
      @brendajollymore4229 Před 4 měsíci

      No, build an insulated box around the main junction of taps/valves. Even attaching the junction to a piece of plywood, insulating the back of the wood and attaching that to the wall would keep the frost off of them.

  • @user-ku4cf2dm6r

    Your system needs a hydraulic accumulator to remove the water hammer. Is it planned? Aquasystem VA 8 as an example. Better more than 100 liters

    • @Villa_Oliva
      @Villa_Oliva  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think we'll be good with the pressure being that high, higher than we need. would we still need it in that case you think?

    • @user-ku4cf2dm6r
      @user-ku4cf2dm6r Před 4 měsíci

      When you open the tap, the pipes shake. This is water hammer. This is bad for connections and for taps (mixers). The hydraulic accumulator dampens the hydraulic shock. There is also a benefit: if the water is turned off, you have a supply of pressurized water.
      I saw advice to make heat for pipes. I support. These connections like to unwind when temperature changes occur.
      Good luck to you! I really like to build)))
