  • If ever there was a U.S. service rifle with a fascinating background, this is the one - the M1 Carbine. It was designed, in part, by David “Carbine” Williams, who served time in the pen for second degree murder. After serving time, Williams couldn’t own a gun, but he still got a job with Winchester Repeating Arms, putting his design skill to use. And the rest, as we say, is History’s Guns.

    These history videos are awesome!
    I have an M-1 carbine that I love to shoot. Ammo used to be plentiful, but today (especially now), not so much. Because of that, I had to move mine towards the back of the safe. Breaks my heart.

    My grandfather bought moonshine from Marsh "Carbine" Williams. He lived not far from my grandfather. That was before he went to prison and designed the Carbine bolt system. He also designed a .22 caliber machine gun.

      Nice! Rock-Ola didn't make a whole lot of complete guns and because the tooling to make the parts was hard to come by, they eventually became a supplier of parts to other manufacturers. Many guns may have a Rock-Ola Barrel, but not be a complete Rock-Ola. Sounds like you may have a real find there.

    I cut a lot of pot back in the 80's. The para trooper was a great gun to have. Small to pack and a lot of firepower if it got bad. We got ambushed one time. Me and nine other officers and they all had 2inch 38's. I cut the woods up with my carbine. End of that foolishness.

    Mr Williams was incarcerated at Caledonia State Prison Farm in Halifax County NC, the county i was born and raised in.
    Our state logo, First For Freedom, originated from the signing of the Halifax resolves on April 12, 1776, the first official document signing declaring Independence from England by the 13 American colonies.
    I always felt it was ironic Mr Williams did much of his design work for the carbine in the county that began the process of America declaring Freedom from the royal monarchy and later on his gun design was used to Keep America Free during a world war and decades beyond.

      Yes, I have read on several accounts that the troops of the Wehrmacht tended greatly admire and desire captured M1 Carbines from U. S. Troops. The M1 Carbines were usually one of the first captured weapons that were used whenever possible. I have little wonder why.

      @blue-skyuniform Před 3 lety

      @@frenchfan3368 the M1 carbine fitted well with the strategy of the Germans. the Germans have 4 years of experience in combat, especially in fighting in cities, it's semi automatic, 15 rounds of magazine, not too powerful and small enough for the Germans, I think the M1 carbine is a really nice carbine

    • @frenchfan3368
      @frenchfan3368 Před 3 lety

      @@blue-skyuniform I agree wholeheartedly with you. If I were to go back in time and fight in the Second World War, the M1 Carbine is probably what I would have chosen to use. Even though it was not originally designed to be used on the front lines, it ended up on the frontlines quite a bit as it was a lot lighter than the heavier M1 Garand.
