  • Two Iowa boys received quite the surprise this week: their mom returning from an overseas deployment with the Iowa National Guard.
The Guard said on Friday that Sgt. 1st Class Trista Stangel recently returned to Osage after being in Poland, surprising her sons at school.
"The raw emotion of love, service and sacrifice ... Priceless! We thank you for our freedom!" Osage Community Schools wrote on Facebook.
A teacher at an elementary school in the district posted: "We had a guest reader and an even better surprise! Welcome home Trista! And thank you for your service!"

I love that the teacher emphasized how important and positive it is to cry in times like this. Crying does not make you weak and kids especially should not be questioned when getting emotional. They should not be made to feel embarrassed to cry when they're sad or happy.

The state gets to elect extra representatives based on the census counts. They don’t need citizenship they need breathing bodies in the state regardless of legal status.
