- I haven't played Persona 5 Royal. This mix was a bit trickier to do than the last since the songs are not in the same tempo, so I had to take some liberties with the transitions.
0:00 Mementos
1:20 Upper Layer
3:55 Middle Layer
7:39 Under Layer
10:24 New Layer - Hry
I remember reading a comment somewhere on a Mementos track that the reason the first theme is so repetitive is because it’s supposed to symbolize our day-to-day routine: Wake up, go to work/school, go home, sleep, repeat.
Well, they're not wrong
Actually accurate
True, but that doesn't make it not repetitive. I'm glad persona5 Royal added new mementos songs or I would go crazy
I come to this song on weekends when I return home and when I must travel back for university, kinda helps to transition back into the rhythm if you know what I mean.
Edit: Its also like stages of your life e.g. 1. is you being below 18, nothing out of the ordinary the only concern for you is school. 2. Transitioning into adulthood, basically the same shit, but with added roadblocks. 3. Being 20-25, getting judged for everything you do, thinking about your future, your decisions etc. 4. Now or never, you either give everything you got for a better life or get left in the dumps, lots of achievements or downfalls during this period. 5. Congrats its S.S.D.D, but either now you're living a happy life or everything went to shit and you're perma screwed, unable to adjust to whatever the future might throw at you.
@@waspshowerI think they made the right choice. Although I do get the point they’re making, it does fit that wherever you are (especially school). The more the year goes on, the more intense it is.
I like to imagine that image of Akechi on a bike riding around in Mementos from time to time.
It makes my day

“Hm? This feeling.… Joker proceed with caution”
"Growls and chains approach at the sound of gunshots"
I remember being super scared of the Reaper in here, but when we finally fought he basically threw by using debuffs on me.
Also of you let him get you first rather than ambushing him, his double turn thing stops working and he only has one turn
I’m still in the level 30-36 range so he’s horrific
@@adonutlol1697 oh good luck there Joker.
I appreciate what Royal did for the music of Mementos. It starts off as a sluggish, repetitive, monotonous rhythm representing the soulless members of society "free from choice" as they follow the same tasks everyday while under Yaldabaoths control. As it progresses towards the second layer, a slight uplift begins to appear while the Phantom Thieves change the hearts of the people in mementos while still having the oppressive, three chord melody that plays throughout the first layer. When progressing to the third layer, more depth is added as mementos starts to become more distorted as the Phantom Thieves travel lower, pushing through with their uplifting theme until the fourth layer where everything leading up to this point assists the Phantom Thieves in becoming the hope and saviour that humanity needs to escape from Yaldabaoths submission. Maruki's "New Area", the music builds on the first layer of mementos while having the uplifting theme as mentioned prior but it isn't as bombastic. This represents Maruki's flawed vision of trying to help everyone while being blinded from the growing distortion that plagues his "new reality". The fact I was able to gather all of that information just from listening to the music is another reason why Shoji Meguro is a phenomenal composer.
Yeah I ain’t reading allat

love how aggresive the gutiar is during the new layer
Mementos is so improved from vanilla to Royal it's not funny. A large part of that was these kickass additions by Shoji Meguro.
Is it different? I never noticed
@Charon the Toaster
It's literally so good...
I've only ever experienced Royal's Mementos but honestly I absolutely love it.
Instakill made it more fun but even without rank 7 Ryuji I think I'd have had a ton of fun
@Charon the Toaster It's also motivation for actually going in there and fighting, since if you stay there long enough and keep collecting things, you can buy some pretty good items. It's just more enjoyable.
My one gripe is just the music stopping when combat starts. I want to jam to my upper layer jams while fighting stuff, cmon Persona :P
I really like the transitions. What maybe would have been cool would be if you had built up a speed up/slow down of the the tempo of the previous song to sort of match the next? Great video anyways
I did try that idea, but couldn't pull it off well so I stuck with this. Thanks!
This is so cool but is this from maruki palace theme because of I go to path of da,at i here it to
I do an asinine amount of driving for my job, and only recently learned that these songs also fit with driving around, especially when it's windy and/or raining
It doesn't matter what you do in Mementos, as long as you hear those chains, it's outta here time!
Pretty much. Once you begin hearing song 4, you no longer have the free time to mess around.
You have to make that map, get the treasure, AND RUN.

When first playing Royal I dreaded the return to mementos as that was my least favorite aspect of the original game but Royal changed everything as soon as their was alternate music tracks, the stamps and flowers, and especially the Ryuji insta kill move
Those transitions are fucking sick, very cool
THE TRANSISIONS DAMN
That lower layer to new layer transition was so smooth
The visualizers improve these songs a lot. maybe it's just me
wow you have skills, really good transitions
am i the only one who likes the first track as well?
thansk for doing this with the cool graphic
Now the Abyss of Time form FES :3
The Abyss of Time theme was already released in the official soundtrack as a full mix (in fact I’ve yet to find the individual variations separately), but a visual accompaniment wouldn’t hurt
UPPER LAYER already sounds so much better then mementos original theme man
I'm a big fan of the 5th song. It integrates both, making the first song SOUND GOOD.

Ah yes, a true Persona fan.
The track should have naturally evolved from the first to the last layer like Tartarus does.
The new tracks in Royal in the middle floors of mementos are really refreshing but they don't have anything in common with the original track that everyone grew to hate from Vanilla.
Eu gostaria que toda momentos tivesse essa música de
underworld
The Upper/Middle/Under layer themes are completely different songs and don’t fit with the rest of Mementos. I get the original song was repetitive for a lot of people, but I just wish they remixed the song like they did with the New Layer, but for ALL the layers. Like Tartarus, the song is altered as you ascend the tower, but the core music is the same.
well, I imagine that they wanted to make the Mementos original theme as a "lobby" song like the Tartarus lobby is not the same song from inside, so the songs from layers sure progress as a remix from its core, except the last one being the "last journey" on Mementos seems a good to fit a triumphant remix theme from its origins like a reference yet distorted enough to feel like the vision from the owner, epic as any heist theme
I think it fits with the public becoming more aware of the PTs
Womp womp. The songs are good, get over it. Also, they still carry the original mementos leitmotif which is pretty cool
@@oden-sama_ I didn’t say they weren’t good songs, smartass.
Tartarus had a super catchy base that they just had to slightly alter as you ascend the tower. Unlike mementos
10:00 is my fav part
top: the phantom thieves have just started out, nothing much has changed in the public consciousness yet, the grind of daily life continues
upper: the phantom thieves are gaining traction, the public are starting to notice them and are gaining hope from them, shown with the theme becoming faster and more upbeat
middle: the phantom thieves are at their peak, the theme sounds slower, more laid back in a way, compared to the upper one, while they think they are reforming society and giving people hope, in reality they are doing nothing to free people and they remain chained, this time to the phantom thieves and not the government
under: the phantom thieves have been discredited and have fallen from grace, this time they have to move, to change things quickly before shido gets into power and they get destroyed. the theme is now urgent, fast, the thieves are finding their resolve and purpose now
new: despite maruki believing he can change the world and make everyone happy, he is just imprisoning them again, taking away their free will in exchange for blind happiness. the theme is very reminiscent of the first mementos theme, showing in a way that he is as bad as the people the thieves targeted before, just with good intentions this time
god these are some massive stretches
Not as iconic as Tartarus and we know the "it represents the day-to-day/work culture of the Japanese" is all mere speculation but damn, so glad they actually gave Mementos an identity instead of hearing the same boring souless ass song you hear from the beginning, now you truly feel you're exploring a mysterious place hidden to the commoners eye
The first one gets so stale...
Wake up. Go to work. Go home. Sleep. Wake up. Go to work. Go home. Sleep.
