Welcome to Next of Ken and today, we're counting down the 12 Times Professor McGonagall Was a Boss Ass Witch in the "Harry Potter" franchise. Although appearing cold and stern, McGonagall has proven herself a caring friend, a fierce matriarch of Hogwarts, and overall, one bad ass witch. Did your favorite McGonagall moment make the list?

"Believe me Professor, I've been asking myself the same question for six years."
The Golden Trio summed up in two sentences.
Orrrrr... the entire Harry Potter franchised summarized in two sentences.
Lol that too.
+FreedomWriter3 Also, why IS it always those three? Why not Neville? Or Seamus and Dean? Or Cedric of all... oh, wait.
+Tyler Wong the answer is actuely quite simple. I am sure this magic force exists in the harry potter universe just as much as other film universes. Its called "the plot demands it"
Right place, right time. private party :p haha. Dean is so tall he'd get noticed anywhere lol
The real question is: when _wasn't_ she a boss ass witch

I was making fun of the movie.
Harry and Voldemort both have this thing of making their spells last for much longer than necessary
It amazes me that this woman was going through cancer treatments later on in the series and she still managed to act her ASS off. She is an amazing talent and I'm so glad she was the one to play such an important character.
Half Blood Prince I believe. There's the scene where she says to Harry I thought you wanted to become an Auror. she looked very pale/aged in that scene but looks a lot better during Deathly Hallows :)
Liam Geoghegan thanks! I couldn't remember the specific film. I just remember reading that she had a wheelchair and would sit in it between takes.
Kristie McDonaldYh. She looked pale and edited too but I thought it made her loon more ill..She did so well :) almost a metaphor. She was battlling cancer and her character was battling too. She looks a lot better now.
+Liam Geoghegan
Just like her character, she cant be killed off that easily :D
Seriously tho, McGonnagall and Snape were probably the most powerful wizards on Harry's side (well, besides Dumbledore of course). And there was no better person to portray McGonnagall than her.
She fits so perfectly! (sry for my bad english xD)
I completely agree :) Think Flitwick is up with them to :D Bill Cipher
I'm currently re-reading book 5 and I literally laugh out loud at the sassy interactions between McGonagall and Umbridge. I forgot how savage McGonagall actually is.
I havent ever gotten into harry potter before because my mum said that I wouldnt like it so recently, one of my teachers started reading the books to the class every so often. In the school library, I took the prison of azkaban and started reading that. He read the first book and I liked it so I watched up to about the 5th film and then I got the 1st and 2nd book. For Christmas I got the whole set so I started reading them. Yesterday, I was reading the goblet of fire and I fell asleep. Long story short, my dog ripped up the whole book so now i have to wait for one to come that i got from Amazon.

McGonagall was strict, yet fair and warm-hearted. The best kind of teacher you can have.
So true. She expects her students to do their best but when it comes to their safety, she's like a mother bear. One instance of her caring nature is when she was anxious during the First Task. She was scared for Harry
She's my favourite teacher in the books she comes across as a kind but also strict teacher that just wants the best for her students
@@adammonaghan9592Strict teachers can indeed be VERY effective. Remember Nigel Ratburn?
No doubt she was the godmother of Hogwarts. Firm and strict when she needed to be, but ultimately she cared deeply for her students and wanted nothing more than to see them excel.
Snape's look at McGonagall as she stands to face him... You can read 'I don't want to fight you'.
He looks heartbroken after she fires that first volley at him :'(
its because she stands in front of harry just like lilly did
I like how he aims his wand at McGonagall, lifts it, and then aims again. Together with the expression, it really is a demonstration of reluctance.
I know, poor Snape.
And as I noticed, Snape just defending, he didn't attack her.
“Potter? Take Weasley with you. He looks far too happy over there.”
Oml XD

khfan4life365 aaaa
I love the look on Severus' face when Minerva steps out in front of Harry. He instantly knew he was in trouble. It also had hints of showing he likely didn't want to fight her not only because of her skills as a witch but also due to their years as friends and colleagues.
Alan Rickman truly was an amazing actor when he can convey all that in a two second look.
Maybe the parallels got him too. This isn't the first time a strong woman got inbetween Harry and a dark wizard.
Maybe he just didn't want to be that guy again.
Also, Professor Mcgonalall is terrifying when calm, imagine her when she's angry.
@@rustomkanishka I remember reading a passage in the book when she came charging out of the school, heading toward Haggrid's hut. She was livid. If I recall, they wound up using some kind of spell on her that knocked her out or paralyzed her temporarily; imagine the fear of God that Minerva put into someone that they had to do that.
I also love the fact that when snape pulls out his wand, the students gasp but they part like the Red Sea the minute professor McGonagall pulls out her
@@eduardomantilla2143 Four Stun spells at once
Also, let it sink in that she's also his Upperclassman...cause she went to the School too.
It’s a crime Maggie Smith as McGonagall was not in more scenes. She’s perfect for the role!
It makes you wonder how much better this series would be if it was a TV series instead of a film series. Keep the cast, give it a budget similar to Game of Thrones (one of the most expensive shows ever made) and it would've explored more of the source material that sadly got cut in the adaptation process.

Mcgonagall: “Have a biscuit Potter.”

That is the one scene I was really looking forward to seeing in the movie and the one I was most disappointed didn’t see Maggie Smith deliver.
HAVE A BISCUIT KILLED ME

"Have another biscuit"
Minerva McGonagall... By far the most underrated character of the entire Harry Potter series. She tried to stop Harry from being put with the Durseleys, and continuously watched out for Harry and all his friends for the rest of their schooling and sometimes beyond. She punished fairly and taught well, and she was one of the few to stand up against Umbridge. Like, I honestly don't know why she isn't consistently praised and adored like Snape or Dumbledore are. 🤷🏼♀️
Anyone who praises Snape for anything more than his potion and spellcasting abilities are naive people ignoring the clear signs of unhealthy stalker obsession. Dumbledore was a great mentor, but an honestly terrible Headmaster. He signed off on teachers like Quirrel and Lockhart, and gave no care towards the safety and education of the students. Any headmaster that shrugs off a Professor literally casting an unforgiveable curse on each member of his class is automatically negligent af.
She’s a woman? Duhh
@ShaggyRogers1 Lockhart eventually lost his memory and harry discovered he was a fraud so that's saying something
@@CherryBlitzzThe thing is, even Dumbledore knew Lockhart was a fraud. Apparently one of the wizards that had their story plagiarized by Lockhart was a friend of Dumbledore, and perhaps giving him the Defence Against the Dark Arts position was his way of exposing Lockhart to who he truly was.
“Potter has as much chance of becoming an auror as dumbledore coming back to the school!!!!”
“A very good chance then.”
“WE DO *NOT* USE TRANSFIGURATION AS A PUNISHMENT!!!”
“Perhaps I should transfigure you or Potter into a pocket watch so at least one of you will be on time.”
She wouldn’t consider that punishment. “Corrective measures” would be how she words it.

OUUHHH YEAH!! But Doby dies :´(
"Take Weasley with you, he looks far too happy." Second best line after animating the statues- still gives me goosebumps!
Here's one book exclusive quip that I love.
Minerva: “Did you scream at Umbridge?”
Harry: “Yes, professor.”
Minerva: “And you called her a liar?”
Harry: “Yes, professor.”
Minerva: “... Have a biscuit Potter.”
I mean Harry WAS telling the truth so Minerva couldn't really punish him for that
It's a crying shame that line didn't make it into the final cut for the film.
You forgot "Have a biscuit, Potter."
Melony Panda i don't think that was in the movies
It was in the book though.
'Is it true, Mr Potter?'
'Is what true?' said Harry rather angrily - 'Professor?' he added in an attempt to sound more polite
'Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?'
'Yes,' said Harry.
'You called her a liar?'
'Yes.'
'You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?'
'Yes.'
Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, frowning at Harry. Then she said, 'Have a biscuit, Potter.'
'Have - what?'
'Have a biscuit,' she repeated impatiently, indicating a tartan tin
lying on top of one of the piles of papers on her desk. 'And sit down.'

@@kristinvagula2821 Snape is a powerful wizard. Why would you think just because he's a potions wizard means he's not powerful? We all know he actually wanted to teach defense against the dark arts cause he knew so much of them. This dude has created his own spells such as Sectumsempra which is extremely dangerous spell and he's expert in it, he's the only one who can fly without a broom besides Voldemort, he's master at mind reading as well. He could block his mind from Voldemort each time he wanted to see into his mind. He has great knowledge in dark spells and helped Dumbledore not to die instantly after he destroyed the ring. He duelled with Slughorn, Flitwick and Mcgonnagall all at the same time. The reason he "lost" to Mcgonnagall was because he was on their side (watch Snape's memories) and didn't want to hurt anyone, he also eliminated 2 Carrows with one spell while being under attack so the school could be free. snape is scared because he knows he cant fight her without possibly killing her. something he definitely didnt want to do, so he runs.
+Josh Brucks but she has had many years of dueling, if he fought back, she'll put up a great fight, even possibly win
et27able hence why i said he would have to severely injure or possibly even kill her to win. there wouldnt be a danger of killing her if she wasnt a threat. he would have to go all out.
I agree Snape was afraid he would hurt/kill her.
KoachKrab127 but he didnt try to kill her so thats what happened?
The proper response:
"Why is it always you three"
Ron and Hermione point at Harry.
That would be the perfect response istggg
At that moment, Harry realises he is weird
ikr
I love the Minerva's only interaction with Mr. Dursley is giving him a stern glance.
It was Neville Longbottom who gave him a stern glance after he got his toad
“… For sheer dumb luck.” Gets me every time 😂
awww can we appreciate how cute McGonagall is: "I've always wanted to use that spell!" but honestly she is a Boss Witch ^.^
i remember watching that movie over and over again just so i could rewatch that one scene (knowing I could see it on youtube)
One of my favourite lines!
Liyana J I know right?
Damn minerva such a cool and funny teacher
Ikr, the little schoolgirl came out for a second
McGonagall: Five points will be taken from Gryffindor
*Realizes shes the Gryffindor guardian*
McGonagall: *_fIVe pOINtS wILl bE AWaRdED tO eACH oF yOU_*
?
According to the book, she definitely will take her house points without hesitation if she finds her own pupils do wrong things. Unlike Snape who intently favor Slytherin, his own house. This is what I like from Minerva.
@@atrudokht thank you
number logic
... for sheer dumb luck" ~ Professor McGonagall
i always loved her the most. she really did seem like she cared most about the students and the general nature of attending Hogwarts. Fun, learning, and adventure.
Dame Maggie Smith will forever be remembered as the most wonderful and remarkable actress. Her talent knows no bounds, showcasing an incredible range that is truly amazing. Her portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall left an indelible mark on an entire generation, creating a beloved character that will always be cherished in our memories.
Only twelve times? Honey, were gonna need a list
Hire a Samurai yeah more like 75 times
Well, considering some of her BAMF moments weren't even in the movies :(
Hire a Samurai all the time anyway
*shows whole series of books and films* HERE'S OUR LIST
A dissertation would be more appropriate.
The preparation for the battle of Hogwarts always gives me chills
ikr?
When I was in the cinema and watched the film for the first time and the scene with magical ball covering the castle (I don't remember this exactly) came I flooded with tears.
I know right? Why is this so emotional?
Because we would've loved this school to be ours. As far as I'm concerned, I started reading HP while being like 8 years old, so it's a huge part of my childhood. Hogwarts represented a new home and a second chance to the main character, who had always been an unhappy and lonely child back in the day. It's like a whole world that's about to be ended and to collapse.
7:00 lol i would've too
If you look closely when Snape was fighting McGonagall, while he was deflecting her spells he directed them at the death eaters behind him, since he was actually on Hogwarts' side all along.
Minerva: Is that a student?!
Mad-Eye: Well Technically it is a ferret.
*fake mad-eye* remember
In the book, he simply responds: Yup
It's actually the boy my bff has been crushing on for years too-
Emilia Pellonmaa the reason he did it is because he considered lucious a coward for claiming to be under the imperious curse
Whether Draco Malfoy deserved it or not, I laughed my ass off
"I always wanted to use that spell" My totes fav line of Minerva
Unifized same!! Omg yes!
Same
That's line also made piertotum locomotor" is my favorite spell.
it's still Professor McGonagall for you
SAME
The moment where she giggles like a little girl saying that she always wanted to use that spell, has to be one of my favourite scenes from the entire series, even the stone soldiers jumping down and marching, and her little speach to the soldiers as they march on... goosebumps always appear when I see that scene.
That last scene was just epic! It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.
I love how Umbridge and McGonagall did the whole “climbing the stairs to be taller than the other” thing. That was great directing.
Not at all. Merely your medieval method
It was in the books.
Yeah, taken directly from the book.
It took Umbridge one step and ghastly high heels to even get CLOSE, too. They did a good job blocking it so that McGonagall seems on the offensive, body langauge wise, the entire time.
Yes and when umbridge said that loyalty was questionable, professor mcgonagall stepped down towards the students because her loyalty was towards them
She's so badass.
So badass she was an adult in Fantastic Beasts 2 which was set in 1927, despite her being born in 1935.
Identity theft is not a joke Jim! Millions of families suffer every year!
Damn they messed up now you mention it.
*ahem* Time Turner *ahem*
Well she could have used a Time Turner.
The SuperCarlinBrothers did a video on this
"Professor what are you doing?!"
"TEACHING"
"Is that a- is that a student?!"
"Technically it's a ferret"
Lol
The thing about McGonagall is that even though she was strict, she still deeply cared about her students. She just wanted to make sure they follow the rules. Of course, a lot of rules keep us safe, so those rules would be even more important in a school of magic. Even though she is a stickler for the rules, she doesn't go with political corruption, and is against harming students.
McGonagall is the definition of savage
you just need the john cena music and its perfect
Livingmylife 16 Ii
YAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!! 😁
McGonagall has wizard sleeves down there too!
Livingmylife 16 TRUE 😂😂
McGonagall is older than Dolores and calls her medieval. See, boomers can learn too
McGonagall is older than boomers
Minerva
@@aesinam Her name is Minerva McGonagall... why are you correcting it?
Oh hell yes but no no, you only got it slightly wrong - *McGononogogoll basically called that B17CH D0L0R35 a b00mer. Now **_that_** is savage.*
@@DinosaurNick I was actually correcting someone else who has since deleted their comment. They spelt Minerva incorrectly. I don't follow up on such
I had tears of pride in my eyes when I read Deathly Hallows and she took on Voldemort with Kingsley and Horace, knowing she’d probably die. Bravest witch of her time.
My favorite scene is when Uxbridge was sitting in on Transfiguration and grading McGonagall.
"I wonder how you expcet to gain an idea of my usual teaching methods if you continue to interrupt me? You see, I do not generally permit people to talk when I am talking."
Savage. I wish that scene was in the movie so bad
"have a biscuit Potter" too bad they didn't include that in the movie
But was actually filmed if I remember, another of many deleted scenes that didn't made the cut. Also one of my favorite deleted scenes and moments with Harry and McGonagall, she always cared a lot for Harry and Dame Smith sure showed beautifully
And the "it unscrews the other way"
i can imagine her saying the same thing to James if she found out they were Animagi...
McGonagall: *you mean to say that yourself, Mr Black, and Mr Pettigrew all learned extremely dangerous and advanced magic, and managed to successfully turn yourselves into illegal Animagi?*
James: *yes Minnie*
McGonagall: *To keep Mr Lupin company during his full-moon transformations?*
James: *yes Minnie*
McGonagall: *hAvE a bIsCuIT pOttEr*
It would've been even better if they added McGonagall's inspection in the movie😅
She was only a "boss ass witch" once. However, that one time lasted her whole life.
Sean M The truth has been spoken.
the mumble-whisper "he might have mentioned it" always makes me laugh hard
They should have included that "have a biscuit , Potter !" Scene in movies .
I love how when Shape has his wand out everyone just stares but the second Minerva has hers out everyone backs away and screams.
They just know better for who to be afraid off
Shape, my favorite charactor lol
Rio Felix i never noticed that b4
I don't think they're afraid of McGonagall. I'm pretty sure they're scared of the duel that was about to take place
I don't mean to compare their skills, but I think Snape was avoiding a possible conflict as otherwise it is quite possible to cause collatoral damage. Look at how he deflects Mcgonnagal's attacks to take out two baddies at the back before he leaves through the window.
It was a show to take out the Callows and allow Snape to escape to continue Dumbledore's plan.
She was pretty great in the movies but she's *even more* of a 'boss ass witch' in the books
Angelina Way Examples:
"Have a biscuit Potter"
"I wonder how you expect me to teach with all of these interruptions"
"Dolores, would you like a cough drop"
Katy Enochian It unscrews the other way
Katy Enochian lol
Angelina Way yess especially against umbridge 😂
Katy Enochian don't forget when she's discusiing careers with Harry and she called Umbridge incompetent
Just chills from that last scene. Love the speech love the soldiers live for her last line and smile!
