I keep watching all these O-2 videos here wishing mine was finished and flying. My restoration has taken way longer than expected and lack of funds has stalled the project. 😢

I've bought and sold over a dozen Skymasters and prolonged taxi on the rear engine only not only can cause overheating, it can lead to vapor lock on on takeoff.

Hello, not sure this first taxi scene was immediately before the take off or just the way to it´s parking spot. It was the only clip of the plane taxiing by i had, so i used it in the video.

@@705547 Thanks, good clip. I see a lot of 337 Drivers taxi on the rear engine. I got my first 337 when I was 17 years old and used to do that until one mild day after exiting the runway I killed the front engine and by the time I got to the hanger the rear engine was at redline on CHT.
I onc sold a 337G to an airline pilot and emphasized never taxiing on the rear engine only. And only a couple of weeks later on a hot day in Texas he and another Airline pilot did a long taxi after re-fulling and used to rear engine to taxi back to the runway. They started front engine only to have the rear engine vapor lock early in the take-off roll and ended up mushing and onto the the roof of a warehouse.

Great plane. If i close my eyes i Imagine the Skymaster buzzing over the vietnamese jungle at night to search Bat 21 downed by Vietcong

We are so missing the boat ...how many even further upgraded versions of this could we buy for the cost of just one of those stupid Tucanos? 5? 6? Maybe even hybrid versions? Just look at what’s available now that wasn’t back in the sixties and seventies: carbon fiber strength members AND armor component hence the possibility of increased monocoque type design; higher h.p./lb. engines; Rare-earth-based electric motors, lithium ion battery technology, after-market STOL KITS with well proven performance and reliability; modern GPS based navigation, no need for VOR,LORAN,ILS,NDB, etc., integrated digital display, for all systems, low-light tv, IR/FLIR now cheaper, better, and lighter; weapons prioritizing anti-personnel and anti-light materiel as opposed to anti-heavy armor operations. The exact same case could probably be made for what an A-37 Dragonfly would be like with similar upgrades that were unimaginable, unachievable, and obviously unavailable when that airframe was designed. In fact, just these few things I’ve mentioned, magnets, batteries, capacitors, SMLED’s and OLED’s, batteries, and composite materials really require almost everything to be completely re-thought, and I just don’t feel like this is happening very fast at all considering what HAS already changed, I mean fundamentally changed, just in the last decade? How come you can get a Bluetooth speaker the size of a brick that sounds like it has a 12” subwoofer in it? How come you couldn’t buy a remote-control quad-copter toy drone for $30 at any walmart when you were a kid? ... but neither could the NSA because there was NO SUCH THING... How come you can buy a flashlight the size of a lipstick that casts a light that would compete with a car’s headlight, and that uses one AA battery? I think these are the most under-asked questions of our time.
