    One night stands, friends with benefits, situationships - as the stigma around casual sex decreases, over 60% of students report engaging in hook-up culture. Normalising hook-up culture aims to put an end to "slut-shaming" and eliminate double standards between male and female sexuality, but has the new leap into "no strings attached" relationships been to the detriment of the feminist movement? Does hook-up culture provide a chance for women to finally reclaim power over their sexuality or cover up another form of misogyny masquerading as female empowerment? Does the rise of hook-up culture mean liberation for women, or their subjugation to the male gaze?

    I probably would disagree with her on many aspects - especially feminism - this talk was very enjoyable to listen. Thank you.

    Why has the debate been organised so that both those speaking for and against the motion are each committed to casual sex? Was this debate intended to distinguish having sex with a range of people who one encounters while living out one's life from the casual sex that results from people 'connecting' via an app? If so I fail to see the distinction. If sex is only for pleasure who cares who you do it with. And if it has a deeper relational meaning then that meaning applies to all expressions of casual sex - not just to 'hook up culture'. Going to a bar to find someone to have sex with is hook up culture. Hook up culture didn't start with Tinder.

    Very well done. Little cringey at times with some lewd humor. Great direct rebuttals and displayed insight into the root of the problems surrounding the culture.

    Well done Deborah. Your's is the only argument I have ever enjoyed or listened to in it's entirety from a self proclaimed feminist. It's refreshing quite honestly.

    While the time of discipline has been hard , it is proven Hebrews 12:11 true to me.
    I have experienced the world and I have found a new level of respect for Jehovah and his laws and his organisation.
    I have come to a realization that if I love Jehovah then I have to adore and respect his figurative wife and work in harmony with it.
    I have realized that as Hebrews 12:6 says, Jehovah disciplines those who he loves.This is a major help and confort for me.
    When I was child in the truth I acted like a child. I deeply regret what I done to myself, to our congregation and to Jehovah and I feel great sorrow for this.
    With the changed attitude I began to truly change my life in more ways than one. So now I confidently ask to be reinstated into the Christian congregation so I can experience Jehovah's love and forgiveness openly with my brothers and sisters.

    “What profit is there in my death, in my going down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?” (Ps. 30:9) David may have written those words toward the end of his life. But he was determined to stay alive and well as long as possible so that he could praise Jehovah

    I want everyone to be as happy as possible. But what does make people happy? Is it long term relationships? Is is shirt term satisfaction? Even if we look at single person that changes though time.

    • @uruk_bye1232
      @uruk_bye1232 Před rokem +7

      It wasn't really waffling. She basically said that casual sex is both good and an expression of female agency, but tinder and apps like it are socially damaging. She just took 13 minutes and made a bunch of bawdy jokes to do it. She's missing the forest for the trees in my opinion, but that's what I got from her.

    • @markusmath3421

      @@uruk_bye1232 Thanks. could you elaborate on your reaction to her points?

    • @uruk_bye1232
      @uruk_bye1232 Před rokem

      @@markusmath3421 I think divorcing sex from responsibility and obligation is more culturally damaging than Tinder and 'hook-up culture' by themselves. Tinder is more like a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. The speaker wants to pretend to be a moral agent, making free sexual choices as an expression of her feminism while also ignoring that her self-indulgent, libertine philosophy must result in the environment we have.
      If casual sex is seen as morally acceptable and even desirable, we will create a market to make it as efficient and obtainable as possible.

      Or just try to listen again, to me she's very articulate and the speech is clearly structured. The core of the message as I understand it is: The problem is not so much the hooking up but the "culture" which creates a system where rules apply. You must opt in or opt out. You either accept the rules (that are those of a marketplace) or you refuse them (and stay out alone).

    I beg you please!
    As long as I am alive, use my existence to announce your name to the world.
    🙏🙏🙏
    Otherwise, the day I fell into the *sleep of death* and turned into the *soil*;
    At that time, how can my *soil* be capable of bringing *glory, greatness, majesty, and dignity* to your name *Jehovah*?!

    I make my request through the only savior of the world of mankind *Jesus Christ*.

    Jesus and his disciples were a small religious group among the large accepted and approved Jewish religion. They were also regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous. Should we come to a conclusion that they were not annoited by jehovah God?! Certainly not.

    On the time of inauguration ceremony the selected king " jesus christ" sits on the throne of Jehovah in the midst of his enemies to proclaim the good news of God's kingdom. This government will bring the sanctification upon Jehovah name and vindicate the holiness of his great name.

    The only purpose of dating apps is to connect women with the rare hot stud. Data from those companies shows that, match on men follow the Pareto’s principle.

    I mean I would love hook up culture if it was not through apps! You have no idea how difficult it has become to just talk and know people! Perhaps is just me. Try ask a woman to have sex to her face and watch her declare all the laws of feminism you have broken on the spot. Somehow that’s ok to do on apps. Software power I guess.
