    This reminds me of when I bought some indoor Par38 LED bulbs that are 3200 lumens each and I sealed all the cracks with silicone and they have now been used through major snow and rain storms outside for 5 years. The indoor lights cost $5 a bulb and I used 10 bulbs total ($50), the lights made for outside were $40 a bulb for the same brightness; saved $350 by using some silicone caulk.

    As a known design issue (most of us do not live in an arid climate), I guess this begs the question... Why the hell don't they just do this at the factory when they are assembled? Don't get me wrong, I am very familiar with taking all of my wheels apart to replace motors, tires etc. But if I drop that kind of cash on a brand spanking new wheel... I sort of expect NOT to have to tear it down before I can ride it. Am I the only one?

    I'd be real interested to know how this affects your range and wheel temps. I remember how i used to 'lubricate' skate bearings like this by packing them with grease.. turns out it makes them really slow, as every bearing has to clear a path through the grease continuously. just a hint of lighter oil works the best. Marine grease on the outside of the shell would work great as another layer of defense but can only hinder the bearings inside

    • @Rocksaplenty
      @Rocksaplenty Před 3 lety

      It largely depends on use case. Here's my experience: The EX.N has ridiculous torque. Even with torque pads, I cannot overpower the wheel without jumping at 220 lbs other than by pumping hard. Sherman, on the other hand, is also an excellent wheel, but is not as friendly when it comes to handling any sort of heavy hills; at least from the videos I have seen.

You didn’t remove the motherboard and check the sealing of that..also you trust the edge seal of the shell?? So many ways for water to ingress there. Any moisture whatsoever inside the wheel allows for potential shorts on the motherboard. It’s not about just sealing the bearings. A rusty bearing is not going to kill you. It’s about not allowing moisture to contact the batteries or the electronics. I seriously think you ride that in your conditions you will have problems down the road.
