    I work as a professional cameraman for many years now. But I still watch videos like this one. There is always room for improvement.
    I still look for the best way to get the interviewees at ease.
    When I arrive at location with the reporter, we always start with a cup of coffee and talk about the stuff we will film. We go over the questions etc. I find it important to be there as well. At least for the first few minutes. It kind of breaks the ice.
    But, people tend to get uncomfortable in front of the camera, when I hit the record trigger. In between takes people seem to be more relaxed. But still a huge contrast with the coffee-chat-moment. It kind of helps when we have them holding something in their hands. It somehow takes their attention off the camera. We usually have them standing, talking off-camera, to the interviewer. It gives a more pro-active posture. But sitting down helps to relax. But for a lot of people it's still an unnatural way of talking.
    Long story short... I hope there are people out there, including you Parker Walback, who know how to deal with this little frustration.
    And, this might be a wonderful topic for a tutorial someday 😎

      @ Edwin it's called letting humans be human. Ofc ppl aren't gonna feel at ease with multiple ppl and equipment around them. I give ppl a general idea of what we're gonna talk about and don't actually talk until the camera & sound are rolling. That way, it's a natural conversation and nobody's rehearsing. That archaic hollyweird way of interviewing is wack..plain & simple.

    Big tip: AutoFocus is never reliable, no matter the camera. It's great when you're vlogging, walking around or filming an event. If your subject is static, just set manual focus and leave it like that. Everyone has their own preference though...

    • @ksharky888
      @ksharky888 Před 2 lety

      The problem with that is, in an interview, the subject is never static. if you're shooting at lets say 1.4 50mm, if the subject moves even slightly forward, focus is lost.

    • @Albanez39
      @Albanez39 Před 2 lety

      @@ksharky888 Shoot at a higher/smaller aperture. Why are you so fixated with shallow DOF? Shoot at 2.8 and frame the shot so the background is as far as possible from the subject. Or just use AF and let it breathe and struggle constantly...even the latest Sony cameras don't have perfect AF.

    • @ksharky888
      @ksharky888 Před 2 lety

      @@Albanez39 just as an example, for my latest client, the space didn't allow for much physical depth, so I was forced to use 1.4. I used zone auto focus on the subjects head over a 2 hour shoot on both A cam and B can and it worked perfectly.
