He even missed from that Acuna pass, and did not make his positioning and movement when Messi played him 1v1, and he even missed that one too. He came on as a sub and got 4 great, great chances. I was sad for Alvarez because he worked really hard as always in that final but didn't get a chance, only for Martinez to waste so many.

It's incredible to think that after his four final losses for Argentina, he's now been part of a side that has won three finals in a row since 2020. I really thought he was just cursed with bad luck at international level before Argentina won the Copa America in Brazil. As someone who's watched him since his debut for Barca, it's so pleasing to see him finish his career with those achievements, especially a world cup. To do that between the age of 33-35 just makes his legacy even more incredible.

Aside from being the most gifted player ever seen, Messi is also a true team man, willing to adapt to the role required of him. If somebody else is better placed to get the goals and glory, he'll gladly provide for them. I saw Pele with the Cosmos at Yankee stadium. For his age he was still amazing. He could jump so high and used his leverage, skill, low center of gravity to be strong a no 9 (7). Maradona was constantly kicked but was so fast, skillful and amazing. After Owen and Shearer plus other Continental stars were getting hurt due to kicking brutally the owners/executives decided to change the game. Leo is the best of his time but I still have him equal with Pele and Maradona.
