my personal theory is that flip was an early concept for a new host to replace clay that was planned around 2006, but got rejected in favor of ooh and aah, and that one short was just a proof of concept/pitch

I thought that was pretty cool since I used to watch Handy Manny all the time, and now, Encanto is my favorite Disney movie. Also, I used to love watching Disney Junior. The beginning of Playhouse Disney (1997-2000) is the one I grew up with the most, mainly in 1999 and 2000 because I was only a toddler/preschooler throughout that time. Bear in the Big Blue House, PB&J Otter, Rolie Polie Olie, Madeline, Little Mermaid (TV series), New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Out of the Box. Those were the major ones for me. I also went to Bear in the Big Blue House live on stage back in 2000. I started shifting away from Playhouse Disney by 2001/2002 because I started elementary school and could no longer see my favs in the morning, I started watching Toon Disney more around this time, and I transitioned over to Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network as well.... but the last show I really liked was Stanley which came out in 2001 and aired a lot in 2002 as well, because I was able to learn about so many animals, and the game on the Disney website was addicting with all the animals on there.

I just love "Can You Teach My Alligator Manners?" Because even if it's a bit insane, it still gets the "most polite educational series" title. By the way, I don't know who voiced the main character, Mikey. Yet, Mikey's voice is just... very good to listen to! (Btw, seems like his voice actor/actress really nailed the british-american accent for him.) I just love the way he asks for the viewer's help. Also, the fact that Mikey solves everything just with asking for the viewer's help really nailed it when it comes to a educational, fourth-wall breaking series. Luckily, his calm attitude was remained in his character. Besides, the way he lets the viewers choose between a framed square in which Al (his alligator and best friend) is actually not being polite, and is the wrong option while the other framed square that affects Al (his alligator and best friend)'s polite-ness, and not only that, but is the right option, really highlighted the series' plot. The fact that Mikey's personality is adorable (because of his voice), elegant (because of the charming accent that he has), and really motivated (for sure, he always breaks the fourth wall when Al, his alligator and best friend, isn't actually being polite.) So, in conclusion, you should definitely check it out! It's totally perfect. It's a 10/10, definitely a must-watch for anyone who didn't watch a charming, fourth-wall breaking, educational series.

I think George (the turtle postman) is the one that always made me laugh the most.
I also remember I'd kind of get confused between the Koala Brothers, and another Australian show called The Adventures of Blinky Bill, which also has a koala protagonist/s- but who knows why though, because Blinky Bill was a cartoon and looked completely different to the Koala Brothers lol.
Sidenote: One of my favourite shows as a kid was Postman Pat, which is a British tv show, but definately a good watch if you enjoy stop-motion!

7:40 this is the probably reason why when the Mickey Head logo debuted in Late 2002 the then new logo had the word “CHANNEL” underneath the Playhouse Disney name. However in mid/late 2003 they slightly updated the bumpers, commercials, screen bug, and even the closing production bumper to remove the word “CHANNEL” from the logo. It’s likely that such version of the logo was originally meant for the planned preschool channel or to make reference it.

We would ride like 3 fantasy land rides (me and my siblings are autistic everything else overwhelmed us at the time), watch the parade, eat at pizza port, then hop over to DCA to watch playhouse disney live. My first memory of seeing the show was the intro when bear used to host and also Stanley was one of the stories they talked about and they brought out this huge gorilla puppet that scared the sh*t out of me lol. I think the last show I saw was when they changed it to disney junior live and they had doc mcstuffins, Sofia the first, and Jake and the neverland pirates. I’m a child of who mostly grew up with Disney Jr.
I was born while it was still playhouse disney but my most fond memories mostly came from its disney junior rebrand- Like Doc Mcstuffins, Sofia the first, Sheriff Callie (underrated btw), Jake and the neverland pirates and so much more!
And I still recognize most of the playhouse disney shows but as you said, I mostly watched those shows at night. Some shows did play during the day like Jungle Junction, My Friends Tigger and Pooh, Handy Manny and Special Agent Oso but that’s all I can remember with Playhouse disney shows playing full episodes during the daytime.
There is this detail that wasn’t covered- with the other playhouse disney shows with the more shorter formatted ones disney jr had a dedicated slot for them but they’re labeled as shorts (from what I remember) and they would rotate between shows for those short segments. They didn’t have their own dedicated slot. It was filler for the more bigger shows
I decided to list down the shows mentioned that were shown in the shorts label (this is from memory btw so keep that in mind)
    Go baby! (I think?)
    Choo-choo soul
Lou and Lou safety patrol (I think?)
    Tasty time with ZeFronk
Can you teach my alligator manners?
    Happy Monster band
    Dance-a-lot robot (UNLOCKED MEMORY)
I literally rewatched a short on Dance-a-lot robot and I swear he looks much better in 2D 😭
And for some context I’m in the Philippines and I don’t know if they do this anymore (esp with Diisney channel and junior I believe leaving asia tv) but that’s what I remember
Let me know if I’m not the only one who had this experience and if you can expand upon it because the memory is still very blurry.

I grew up watching LOTR multiple times a year so I was so surprised when they didn't mention it! I forget not everyone has seen it so it's valid to reference his more recent works vs something he was in 20 years ago. but the impact of Sam will never be forgotten

Playhouse Disney tried to be the “CBeebies of the USA”. I think it made a great competitor to the UK channel as they both had the same layout. It is a shame it went, because it felt like a very special programming block.

It would be cool if you made a video about the History of Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior Live On Stage and also the Fresh Beat Band!!

I haven’t seen the jungle junction characters in over a decade and they look so cursed to me now. How did I enjoy watching this as a young kid

18:13 allegedly Bear was canceled due to the VA of the moon dying. Not sure how true that is.

partly ! Lynne’s death was very sudden so it led to an immediate hiatus in production
however in the end it was said after that point the crews hearts weren’t in it anymore but also the show had done it’s job in terms of education

@@lulaloopsey thank you for clarifying! Also I’m halfway through watching and the entirety of the section of you talking about Sean Astin took me out 😭
      Sucks I won’t be able to watch ST5…but then again… 🏴‍☠️
(Also also, autism gang. Didn’t realize Bear had such an impact on autistic kids and that explains so much)

Can I just say how much I love Special Agent Oco. I always used to watch it when I was about 3 in 2013, so I also watched Handy Mannie and Octonotz.

I was born in the UK 2008 and I was lucky enough to watch some of the Playhouse Disney shows before the channel turned into Disney Junior and I definitely remember watching Bear in the Big Blue House when I was little and I recently had the goodbye song stuck inside of my head lmao.
I was very happy when Bear in the Big Blue House was added to Disney+.

The mall tour was before my time unfortunately. However I grew up in a Disney loving family so we went to Disney World at least every few years. This is where things cross paths, as over in Hollywood Studios they also had Playhouse Disney Live. The major difference was that it was almost exclusively puppets of the characters, and they built the set to look like a pop up book.
No joke, that was one of my first core memories at the parks. I garuntee you can find videos of it on here because they had this well into the Disney Junior era. And for something that was far more low budget than the rides, it made a hell of an impression on me.
