I’m a New York dairy farmer and I milk cows to this song all the time , my friend played this for me about three weeks ago and said it reminded him of me , I have a Chevy truck with a weatherguard box and gun rack , I’m 6’1 and some times I guess you could say i feel like I’m walking 10’6 , this song is to rep the blue collar worker who has worked for everything he has and will work well past retirement ... GREAT SONG

  • @purgatoryofhope1414
    @purgatoryofhope1414 Před 5 lety +10

Thank you for this song. It and the video is amazing it is my dad who died of at 89 last year exactly like this. He started out as a real cowboy with his parents cattle ranch in Washington State. In the Army he joined the Corps of Engineers he had been going to school to become a geologist before the Korean conflict. He'd missed by 1hour induction as a volunteer for World War II he was only 16. He had already graduated high school and convinced his parents he should go and do his duty. He was a great Horseman but the military taught him how to supervise men as he already knew how to run heavy equipment and that's how he got his position. When he got out he ended up in Sand and Gravel Construction. One of my first memories is him showing me the dam they were building I believe it was in Spokane I was just over two years old and it was too big of a hole for me. I would often go with my father even though I was a girl to work and ride the giant machines caterpillar was our family favorite word and we were the Envy of our neighborhood when dad gave us isn nner tube from one of the giant tires that dump truck had on! To bounce on, you didn't need the trampoline when you had one of those. I saw his men and him do many heroic things because they were operators of this heavy equipment. when we finished the dam that had us living in Starbuck Washington yeah it's a real place. The worst weather in 50yrs greeted is in Mount Shasta. The company was contracted to work work on The Siskiyou Dam. The state of California came and hired my dad's company heavy equipment operators to work for them clearing the roads getting stranded Travelers and their vehicles to safety and providing access to the towns out of Mount Shasta and down into the valley below or up to the Oregon border. it was rough cold dangerous work but these men did it knowing that their wives and children were all stranded in the mobile home park some of them not even hooked up yet we had just gotten in there but this is how they cared about people. my dad never worked on another Dam because the Siskiyou one took away land that had belong to some families for almost a hundred years. I went with him when he had to go knock on their door and beg them to please pack their things now and leave because the county closed the gates to the dam early and the water was Rising faster than planned. even my father's company lost equipment there and people snorkel and dive down to it for practice. I could hear the whole conversation and I know he was very stressed that these people could possibly lose everything because if the water got too far up and it was an extremely wet year they could possibly not be able to get out they would be overflowed and everything would be covered with water and as it was they were not supposed to be there because the road was to be flooded anyway. Being 8 years old I really didn't understand the legalities of it but I was listening to this man talk about how could the government take his property how could they do this to him and he was just devastated and my father was just as upset about it and I think that's why he never wanted to work on that kind of a project again. instead we left Mount Shasta went to Sylmar California and my father's company simply worked on Sand and Gravel freeway building Road Improvement throughout Southern California. It was the boom time for building subdivisions etcetera.
the number of major and minor natural disasters that my family has been through has been amazing can't list it's too long. Living in Southern California can certainly be a challenge. The calm patience that my mother displayed (most would call her salt-of-the-earth) and exemplified to her neighbors so they would stay calm and not become overwrought or terrified over what was happening. She'd have coffee brewing within 10 minutes when everyone else didn't even know where their shoes were. She was always prepared with emergency food drinking water supplies a camp stove and the fuel to run it. My parents worked as a strong team, and they taught us that too.
We came up in a time of changing social mores and even morals but my parents were older than most of the people around them. While many of the kids I went to school with were having to raise themselves as their parents were too busy finding themselves or found the addiction they didn't need.
At the time my parents were around you could get to know the famous people for real not pretend like the Kardashians do. my parents would take us all off to Reno and then later to Vegas and on the way my dad call Mr Harrah of Harrah's Casinos and say hey we're heading up you going to be available for a card game and they would spend their time seeing the shows pulling the slot machine handle and Having a card game with Mr Harrah. since I had been working since Age 5 towards the music of stage performance industry we met many talented and famous people but my parents taught us that they were the same as we were just people doing a job they were not gods as a matter of fact their lives were very sad most of them as they get 15 minutes of fame and when it leaves they're left behind sometimes it's just a little hard to live with yourself. My parents taught us very strongly that everyone is equal. They all put their pants on the same way we do. both my parents were mystified by the belittling the average working-class person of the United States to them was truly disloyal to their fan base.
Thanks for a great song and caring about the middleman they are the thread that keeps this country sewn together and if they fail this country will become unraveled so easily

Tough as nails, hard as bricks
Six foot one, walkin' ten foot six
Four on the floor, twelve in the back
With a Weather Guard box and an old gun rack
    Feeling fly, ridin' high
Roughneck red till the day we die
We're the eighteen wheelers haulin' loads
Up at dawn, farmers cuttin' rows
Hard hats out there poundin' roads
We're the workin' class, son, and that ain't low
    Get the Copenhagen cowboy kind
We're the camouflage on that front line
Stand for the flag till the day we're dead
We're every stitch of this American thread
We're the dusty boots and late night rides
    Busted knuckles and bloodshot eyes
Might break our backs, but not our pride
Roughneck red till the day we die
We're the eighteen wheelers haulin' loads
Up at dawn, farmers cuttin' rows
Hard hats out there poundin' roads
We're the workin' class, son, and that ain't low
    Get the Copenhagen cowboy kind
We're the camouflage on that front line
Stand for the flag till the day we're dead
We're every stitch of this American thread
To the "never quit" stay in the fight
To the boys in blue out savin' lives
From the teachers and the preachers tryna raise 'em right
From the third shift hustle to the nine to five
To the single mom tryna feed her kids
To the bartender 'tendin' on makin' tips
We're all one people at the end of the day
No matter where we're from, we're American made
    American made
We're the eighteen wheelers haulin' loads
Up at dawn, farmers cuttin' rows
Hard hats out there poundin' roads
We're the workin' class, son, and that ain't low
    Get the Copenhagen cowboy kind
We're the camouflage on that front line
Stand for the flag till the day we're dead
We're every stitch of this American thread
