    That box joint jig-machine-guide-thing is unbelievable. I watched that part about 20 times. Don't know if you built that or bought it, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. Awesome as always Jay. Thanks for the vid.

    Yes, this is 100% useful, and not a bit harder than it has to be. This is the best design for a router table I have seen.

  • @JohnHeisz
    @JohnHeisz Před 7 lety +37

    Neat idea using the dead space at the bottom of the drill press. Also like the trim router, since the bulk of what most of us do it chamfering or rounding over the edge on parts.

    Thanks for the inspiration! Your video has enabled me, a complete woodworking newbie, to construct a similar table from literal scrapwood. Not nearly as goodlooking but it gets the job done.
    BTW: I salvaged a bright white LED and battery holder from a broken bicycle headlight and drilled a hole in the fence dome and inserted the LED so it illuminates the work area.

    Excellent video Jay. Your concise explanations, and visuals during the process are very professional. It's easy to say you take your craft very seriously, and it shows. Reminds me of my grandfather, who was a master in the art of woodworking, he could craft just about anything made with wood, all with hand tools. Thanks, think I'll go out to the garage now and make one.

    I love this and tried it. I don't have that fancy box jig, so I just used the Kreg jig and pocket screws. I did make the wings on the feet to accommodate a clamp instead of securing it to a surface via screws or bolts. I also couldn't find those nice black knobs and went with wing nuts instead. My shop vac is my dust collection so I bought a reducer to keep the hole the same size. I have an older Dewalt 610 so the height adjustment is a bit tighter to reach, but it works great. Thanks for posting and I look forward to mirroring some of your other projects.

That is going to get demoted to another area and a Benchtop router unit like yours is going in its place in the new year. Thanks for this super idea. regards from Stephen in Lancashire UK.

    Very handy! Great use of finger joints. I suppose you'll keep your bits and wrenches close by? Being as light as it is, you could temporarily set it anywhere. But if you moved it, you might want a way to clamp it down. A couple of holes near the bottom for f-style clamps would work. I might have run the dust collection out the back or side but understand why the top work in your situation.

    With that arrangement of drill and router, you could implement a pin router. Line up the router collet with the drill chuck, I most often use a 1/4" metal rod, then you can place a template on your work piece and repeatedly route pieces by following the template.

    Limited in shop space? My hobby/workshop in out on the balcony of my high rise apartment. I bought one of those table top router plate things. It's not going to work. Presently my work bench is a 3/4" table top I picked up, from the garbage pile out back. The table top sits on top of a couple of plastic saw horses from Home Despot. But you have given me an idea. I am just going to mount it to the underside of my work table. Dust control is a big problem for me at the moment, especially from my thickness planer, but that's another story.
