    Helpful to see it working and some of the comments you have made post video. Thinking about getting one to ease our lives a bit but still a bit on the fence.
    Is this thing reliable long term?

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před měsícem +1

      I'm only 6 months in (got it in November 2023). It runs daily on a 900 square foot space where the cat litter pans are (I have 2 long haired cats that shed a TON), an office den, and the family TV room with plush carpet. I just replaced the filter with the extra the came with it. So I can't tell you too much on longevity.
      While I LOVE coming downstairs every morning to a carpet clear of cat litter and hair, it doesn't vacuum as deeply as a standard vacuum does and I rarely use the mopping feature (sometimes before guests come I'll carry it upstairs to the kitchen and tell it to "clean everywhere" with the mop feature). The biggest frustration is the occasional terrible start to the day when the roomba goes over a cat "accident" outside of the litter pan or a big hairball. Because of that, I actually took the entire thing apart once. It was oddly comforting to understand how straightforward it all is and that most parts are easily replaceable. I should probably reschedule it to avoid those kind of surprises.
      I will use this one until it breaks and will definitely want another when that happens. But when I get another, I want the one that can see/avoid pet accidents like the newer J7 that's on super sale right now so is the same price as the i5 geni.us/zyiM (paid link - sale note only applies when I'm seeing it on 5/17/2024). I will personally stick with the smaller, streamlined versions (compared to the ones with trash towers they can dump to) as I prefer having it hide under a piece of furniture and emptying it is no biggie. The app just warns me and it's a quick process.

      @@alderandjade thank you so much for your detailed comment! I don't have any pets, but have lots of furniture around and my concern is that there will be lots of missed spots, but I could always try it out and return it if I don't like it. I live in the UK and there is a good offer also available but didn't want to spend too much just in case it doesn't work out.
      Thanks again for your reply 😉😊

    how do u use the drip tray?

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před 2 měsíci

      It connects to the charging base and is just where the Roomba goes to recharge :)
      It can get dirty as the Roomba stops vacumming when it rolls onto the base so I appreciate that it's there as I can wipe everything off it easily. I usually just wipe the stuff right back onto the surrounding floor for the roomba to get it it's next run 😅
      If you're mopping, it will catch drips once the roomba stops...for a little bit...but it doesn't have any real catch so I usually empty the mop water cartridge really fast.

    Can you use Method cleaning solution?

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před 6 měsíci

      I don't see why not. That liquid is simply contained in a plastic compartment with the liquid seeping through some fabric to the washable mop mat. That said, Roomba officially is only recommending Bona floor cleaners...probably a brand deal.
      Here's the official recommendations. Note that they don't recommend water and vinegar: homesupport.irobot.com/s/article/roomba-combo-cleanser

    how good is the mopping

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Like I say at 1:24, I can mop at lot better that this can 😅
      The mopping feature is nothing amazing, but I still use it from time to time. I like that it vacuums and mops the whole space (even under our couch, coffee table, and other hard-to-reach spaces) while I can work on other things. I treat the mop as more of a 2nd catch for dust and cat hair the vacuum misses than a deep clean.
      For the most part, I have my roomba near my cats litter pans and it has one scheduled job: to vacuum the litter area before I come downstairs each morning. I cannot tell you how much this small task has made a difference for me!

      That's frustrating! Sorry to hear it. Mine is still working fine. I did have it showing an error with vacuuming and realized a playing card had gotten stuck in the feeder. Might just be something odd stuck in it? Hope you find what the cause is.

      I'd love to see a video on the j5 actually avoiding pet poop. My worry is that it'll still hit it with the edge sweeping brush.Good thing to think about when considering any smart/automated vacuum!

    Can you map more than one floor like have second floor and basement in the app?

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před 6 měsíci

      You cannot map another floor with the Roomba i5, but you can carry it to a different floor and tell it to "clean everywhere." That said, it gets grumpy when you do this.
      Mine kept wanting to go home when its is bin was full and then would get lost because home was on another floor. Others have recommended taking the base to each floor with it, but it really isn't designed to go to multiple levels. It's designed to regularly clean one level, constantly improving upon it's map of the space.
      I've read that the Roomba i7 can map multiple floors, but I'm unsure how well that works.

      @@javiervaldez6070 I actually emailed support again earlier today as they haven't gotten back to me. I'm disappointed by the customer service, but I'm guessing it's because they have no way of giving me a way to buy extra mop pads at this time....I'm sure there will be off-brand replacement mop pads on Amazon soon enough as there already are for the other roomba mop models...but still annoying that you can't get more directly from Roomba.
      Anyway, if they ever respond to me, I'll let you know 😅

    Yeah the mop function is a joke. Ran for 5 min and return home and gave me an error. Not sure this thing is worth it at all. All of my arm brushes are broken off in the first week as well.

    • @alderandjade
      @alderandjade  Před 5 měsíci

      WHAT?! That's worth contact support over. I have mine scheduled to vacuum every morning (mostly to stay on top of cat litter and cat hair) and I often do additional runs in the afternoons (I blame kids!). I've had it 2 months so far and I've only had to deal with is pulling gobs of hair out of all the bottom components on occasion. And it only once did it throw a bunch of errors until I realized that a playing card had gotten stuck in it. Instant fix.
      That's a bad first experience and I'd be returning mine or requesting a replacement if I were you. Sorry to hear it.
      And yes. I agree on the mop function. The only time I use it is when I'm feeling extra lazy. It's more like a light wiping than a mopping job. But it does get *most* of the smudge marks off our kitchen floor while vacuuming so I'll run it before guests come over if I remember.
      Vacuuming on a schedule is - hands down - my favorite part.
