  • Watch and see how Ms. Ruthie uses her Red Word Cards to play a fun classroom game and review high-frequency words learned earlier in the week. Red Words are high-frequency words that are the most commonly used words in printed and written text. Each week within the Bridge to Reading curriculum, children will learn one to five new Red Words, and when possible, the words will follow the sound-spelling relationship being taught during the week. These words are not meant to be memorized; instead, children will learn to stop and think about each word before reading or writing. Red Words are revisited throughout the week through engaging activities such as this one that incorporate decoding and encoding to build automaticity.
