  • Cheryl Baker If Paradise is Half As Nice Its Wicked 1987 Cheryl Baker
This was Cheryl's first solo single when she was still with Bucks Fizz but they were on a 2 year break so Cheryl managed to get her presenter status off the ground. She started her eggs and baker with Its Wicked which afterwards got turned into her own Eggs and Baker TV Show.

Only found this song in November 2020 and somehow it brightened up the year a bit. I also didn't know that Cheryl was such a good singer!

'If Paradise Is Half As Nice' is a wonderful song and I am surprised it wasn't a massive hit its so catchy and the perfect song for Summer.

It was No1 for 2 weeks in 1969 then re-released in 1976 at Number 34. Originally called "Half As Nice" It's a superb tune 👍

@@greywebs1944 It's a crackin bit of late 60s power pop and as was typical for the era it's origins came from Italy. It was originally written by the Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Battisti. Also typical it was translated into English by Jack Fishman . He first offered it to The Tremeloes but they apparently turned it down! The DC5 wanted it - their version is on You Tube, quite different.

Great version. This track was often played on Caroline 558.

1987: Cheryl cut this as a solo act for Warners while Bucks Fizz was on hiatus, with Andy Hill producing. "This Fragile Heart" was the B-side. Looks like future husband Steve Stroud on bass.

Fuckin backing tapes watch the drummer what a knob 🤣 This is a great version but I hate miming it's shit. I went to one in Coventry years ago similar to this and only one band played live Little Angels they tore the place up 🤣 I remember Buck Fizz looking like they wore nappies 🤣
