It all comes down to the quality of the source material. The old amen has a sweet compressor going on the ride, plenty of transients in the drum heads and a good tonal balance. It's hard to match this kind of sound in software except with live drum loops.
This is some BASED jungle beats, not chaotic enough for break core. But slap some sampled synth pads over this and youve got yourself some 90's underground jungle
@@ubiifuruuu jungle is a genre of music from the 90’s. It was very popular in the underground rave scene, Especially in the UK. Originating from Jamaican and European influence, it’s categorized by 70/80’s funk and pop breakbeats being chopped and looped. As well as sampling a lot of popular media like movies. In my opinion, jungle is typically the slowest of the breakbeat genres. Breakbeat starts when you increase the speed past what the average person might consider comfortable. Breakcore can really be any speed but it’s supposed to be a highly experimental and weird genre that spawned from the advancements of computers and DAW’s. @@0Sirenn it needs more than an amen break too be break core. The amen break is one of many “drum breakbeats” that’s sampled from early funk and soul music. Also this isn’t really breakcore, it’s more jungle. To be breakcore it has to be more chaotic and much faster. Simple drum rolls don’t make a breakcore track
@@petersheppard2173 when i refer to jungle, don’t take it literally. I’m obviously referring to the chopped breakbeats more than I am any sampled sound
Really nice amen. Throw down some atmospherics and whatnot and you can definitely juice a whole track out of this. Pretty much just need to change the end of each 8/16/32 bar section a little and you have a solid two "verses" if you add breakdown and outro. Cool stuff.
this is honestly how breakcore is written? i would never think to write drums like that, partially bc i had 1 and a half years of drum lessons in middle school and i just write based on the grooves that i learned. it sounds so cool though. can i ask how much of the process was intentional and how much was messing about?
idk about the messing about but you generally slice a sample, then run it through a sequencer (piano roll) with the "notes" corresponding to the slices you took
I think it depends on the artist. I’m pretty sure some people do it just by messing around, or fully intending every note. I personally compose by mixing both but leaning more on the intentional side. I’ll imagine a beat (may be simple, may be complex) and try my best to make it that way, but I stay open to experimentation. Also, I see a lot of these guys using sequencers, which lets you use MIDI, whereas I just cut up the audio and align those bits where I want them to go, which probably influences how you write those parts.
I am trying to make breakcore beats and honestly I am just messing around and editing. I have no idea wtf slicing means but I'll figure it out one day.

the magic of the amen

there's a reason Amen Brother is the most sampled song of all time.
