  • CTVS thoracic surgeons Dr. Rachel Medbery and Dr. Matthew Gaudet specialize in the surgical treatment of medialstinal masses.
Different masses can form in the mediastinum depending on the location.
    Anterior
    - Thymic
    - Lymphoma
    - Goiter
    - Germ cell
    Middle
    - Duplication cyst
    Posterior
    - Nerve sheath
    - Paraganglioma
Not all mediastinal masses have to be surgically removed. The majority of the masses that do require surgery can be resected with a minimally invasive or robotic approach. Some of the larger or more invasive tumors will require a median sternotomy.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have been diagnosed with a thymoma and currently undergoing neo-adjuvant chemotherapy with surgery after the 4th cycle. It will be a medial sternotomy - my 3rd as I had a Tetrology of Fallots, and they need to replace my PV. So there will be two teams working on my surgery. I am anxious but I know the prognosis is good. Pray for me
