- I bought a strange guitar from a strange man.
It's from the 60's... from Japan... and looks very similar to a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster offset style guitar.
Never heard of it, nor ever seen it.
But it's a pretty sick looking guitar...
So here it is.

Older vintage Japanese Teisco's. They are some of the best electric guitars i've played for only couple hundred dollars.
They can be modded well too. Many makers still use similar di to make the parts. Also, with Harmomy returning, you can probably find some better parts to slap on one today. Oh, and Gold Foil pickups can be found on these often.
Really cool video, keep up the original content man
Kawai was the factory, Bruno was the brand, Conqueror was the model.
Kawaii made some amazing instruments...It looks cool... would like to know more details on this one...what woods? How are the pickups? Does the trem work.?..I am thinking the bridge does not look like that style guitar and was probably swapped
I once had a Conqueror Beatle base from the 60'sand it was cool
Love that. If it were mine, I'd never let it go
sounds pretty nice
I have to say, I'm a bit of fan of 60's Japanese manufactured guitars. As someone else has mentioned, the late 60's weren't the best of times for the American guitar companies and a few factories in Japan realized an opportunity with the emerging electric guitar craze and started manufacturing some really good instruments (remember: Kurt Cobain was known to play a Univox High-Flyer). Though their electronics weren't known for their performance, it was the design and workmanship that many times sets them apart. There were many manufacturers during "The Bizarre Guitar Era" and many of them still survive today (producing some models for the US guitar brands). Pick one up and give it some love, there's some really good players out there.
Yes they are. Japanese quality control is legendary.
like a lot of Japanese companies Kawia is not just a guitar company they "make" everything .mostly famous grand pianos they subcontracted to generic manufatuers (like how cort actually makes half the guitars on the planet for every brand
Kawai is the manufacturer, or had it manufactured for them. Bruno is the importer and have been around since the late 1800's, out of New York. Conqueror is the model of the guitar in this case but there are many different Conqueror's...banjos and drums as well.
Hang on to that guitar, it is just as good as the Gibson's and fenders from that era that sell for tens of thousands. As soon as somebody famous plays one on stage they will be worth a lot more money
Sold a long long time ago
Clearer than most real fenders lol
just got the exact same guitar as you from good will. I love the sound and look so much. can't find any info on it.
You found the same exact guitar?
You might want to check the serial codes underneath the pickups or the pots. Some of these older Japanese guitars have numbers located there for further dating reference. Either way these are very well made musical instruments
I got a late 6o's Morales Mosrite copy it is bitchin'
From the Matsumoko factory
How do you know?
That's where all those teiscos are made. I've been reading a lot about them lately and watching a lot of videos.. I think the teisco tulip is the one I want. They are all manufactured under a bunch of different brand names
@@goatsandguitars8413 Its hard to believe it
You could tell by the neck plate.
@@zombiewolf6809 no you cant. these guitars are impossible to identify correctly
There’s one at my local guitar shop that’s identical except the headstock. The inlays are the same, pickup position and the pickup selector switches.
What shop is it in what city?
I have collected the Japanese guitars made by hand and they are great fun!
In reality the only differences between a normal guitar , a baritone guitar and a Bass VI , are the scale lengths , nothing else , 60s guitars are the sexiest ones , love 'em
One of my first guitars..back in 1967 was a MAXI-Tone BRUNO…it was a semi hollow like a Epiphone Casino or 335 type.
i just picked up a vintage "recordio USA" guitar made in japan and i cant find anything about it at all. a little rough to play but sounds good and looks awesome
Where’d you buy it at
Very cool guitar your guitar looks very much like my teisco top twenty your guitar sounds so cool
Do you know if the pickups on ur Teisco is original?
@@everysingleguitars those looked to be period correct Teisco pickups. Refer to 60 Cycle Hum, and reach out to Ryan and the guys there. Also, Brad The Guitologist has an extensive collection of, and video on repairs to and or mods on these guitars. He could help ya out as well as the 60 Cycle crew could, as they both have extensive collections of these guitars and knowledge on the makers. This looks to be a sleeper hit, I know I want 5 just looking at it. Super groovy, amd offset, which is my numb to plum.
It was PROBABLY made in the Matsuoka factory or maybe Teisco. I nearly bought a very similar one, same factory, but under the brand Grenada (I think?) which was a Canadian brand. Many of the old Aria instruments were built in this factory as well as dozens of other brands. This one you have is a pre-lawsuit era instrument. I have two Aria Gibson clones from the same factory - one is late 60's Gibson ES3xx inspired and the other is 71/72 SG clone. Both are absolute dreams to play, especially the SG. I run mine into a Traynor (also Canadian) YCV40WR and they sing, man. Dating these can definitely be a challenge.
8:01-`8:30 Hosanna?
Lol good ear 👂
I have seen these guitars on reverb
for sale around 500$us
Had a Heit Deluxe Bass. Looked somewhat like a Rickenbacker. Had the exact same pickguard.
The bridge is a replacement. The rest is original.
Im curious as to how the neck feels on that guitar? Narrow or wide? What about the scale length?
I am looking for help to find the brand of vintage Japanese guitar I have. It was my dad and he can't remember the brand or year he bought it, but it was between 68-73. I would be grateful for help with it. My oldest son plays and I would like to give it to him.
Kawai...la petite barre pour tenir des cordes est typique chez des guitares Kawai. Après l'achat de Teisco par Kawai la barre se trouve sur des Teiscos aussi (pas avant) ;)
I am pretty sure your bridge is not original. that looks like a tunamatic and mine has an older one.
bridge not original
I've got that exact same guitar big headstock everything except, ..4 pickups, so where yours has 2 switches on that chrome plate, mine has 4 switches on a longer plate.. the bridge on yours, not original.
..what'd you end up selling it for.
more than what I paid for…..
Yeah it’s definitely not a strat , tele, or les Paul shape 🤔
