    I see this video is already one year old. This 3056 has been restored to its original analog "configuration" very nicely, well done. 🙂

    Interesting. A reverse conversion. Nice presentation of the process. I've done quite a few conversions to digital. I keep all the removed parts in a Ziploc with a label of the parts' source.

      Cool, thanks. If you don;t know what to do with the parts, I'd be happy to have them 😉

    Some people do really botch jobs and when it comes time for us to work on these models we find all sorts of things mostly not needed but that's just the thing of it. I have a DC crocodile but in Brown. I just noticed your issue with the running and stopping.. @7:38 the grey wire has broken from the motor contact and is more evident when you turn the loco over @8:30. You could have used the 5 pole motor without removing it and putting an original motor into it.. All in all, it is great to see these locos being used and brought back to how they were meant to be.

      @The3rdRail  Před 6 dny +1

      Thanks for watching with so much attention 😉 Couple of things: I broke the grey wire when I was filming, so that wasn't the problem, but it could have been. I think the problem was that one of the screws holding the magnet in place that was too long and rubbed against one of the metal gears under certain conditions. But that doesn't matter anymore 😀 The 5-pole and 3-pole armatures have different diameters, so I couldn't have left the 5 pole in place with the field windings I fitted. Thanks for the visit!

    A very beautiful back wards conversion from digital to analog, your soldering skills are quite good, and your faithfulness to the cables are impressive. It’s just such a fun to see a master at work. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    Hi. Bruce again from NZ. A great presentation on how to put this back to where they should be. Question please. I am building up a Marklin analog display and a t the end of your video I saw a brief look at your controller layout. Can you tell me what controllers you use for your layout control. Very much appreciated. Regards. Bruce.

    • @The3rdRail
      @The3rdRail  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks! I use standard transformers and wireless switches for the turnouts, signals and contact tracks (home made solution).

    Thank you for your reply. Are the Marklin white controllers any different from the original blue ones. Also wireless switching units and controller, are they available on the market or are they made for you. I know the wiring for even my N scale layout I’ve built is the biggest nightmare of the whole layout. Regards. Bruce.

    • @The3rdRail
      @The3rdRail  Před 10 měsíci

      The swiches are home made, so is the software to control them, it runs on a rapsberry PI. This is not ready for wider distribution at this point in time (liability + support overhead).The white transformers are modern versions of the original blue ones, and made to operate with modern grids. The older types will output a higher voltage today. For example an old blue metal transfomer made in the 1960s will generate a reverse pulse higher then the 24V it should. I measured one of mine at 36V to 40V... Not a problem on pure analogue locos, but a problem with decoders and some electronic reversers, as the component used for them are usually rated for lower voltages. Additionally, the metal transformers can cause electrocution due to decay of the wiring, some models are nearly 75 years old now...

    Unfortunately I got so fed up with the little reversing relay I converted all my loco's to digital

    • @The3rdRail
      @The3rdRail  Před 2 lety

      I do this too from time to time on unreliable models

  • @johnbuttery1171

    Any idea why it was stopping with the chip fitted? I had a similar situation which I may have been due to it overheating.

    • @The3rdRail
      @The3rdRail  Před 5 měsíci +1

      No idea... Overheating is possible, could also be due to something rubbing against the gears (for example a long screw not meant for the magnet)... Obviously I gave up before finding out...
