It's not suspension works. It's the torque twist. That engine has so much torque, when the camshaft rotates, it pushes one side of the car up and one down. Crazy amount of power on it.
@@whiskey2619 twisting doesn't rob power as it only turns energy into potential energy via loading up the chassis. This energy is returned when the chassis settles. It is hurting his times though via other means.
Given the finish and engineering in the rest of the car, has anyone thought that maybe he knows how to suspend the car but just likes to put on a show?
Definitely it's all ok for a car with solid rear axle (or what, you see what I'm saying). That good ol' stuff is just unable to handle the torque of a dragster as the prop shaft tries to tear the whole axle out of the chassis. So some stiffening's not the best way to solve the problem.
Yep thats correct, but it had to be seriously Aussiefied to stand up to the Australian enviroment, while you can see the lineage back to U.S.A its quite a changed animal under the skin, but where possible generic parts were sourced from the corporate GM parts bin. Check out the around Australia endurance trail, was regarded as the toughest event of its type in the world, thats the conditions the Holden 'H series' was originally designed to endure. Its a tough car.
Its a 1971 or 1972 "Holden HQ GTS (number) Coupe" (73-74, he probably would've kept the hood stripe) made in Australia. The number was engine size in ci, 253, 350 etc, and thus wouldn't really matter now, as the engine is custom. The 350s are pretty rare iirc.
Not sure why anyone would want their car to do this. Hes doing a great job at keeping the thing from losing control but, I can only assume he intentionally made his chassis so fucked up to do this cause anyone whos car did this and it wasnt on purpose has no business behind the wheel of a car. Why more bad ass to lift both wheels up and go straight.
hmm, how do you wheelie and still steer? Ask this guy! Either alot of chassis flex (seen that as the cause before) or could be shock/spring adjustments or 1 drag shock only?
I think the Victor is more closely related to the Torana. HQ-HZ Holden sedans and coupes had the front rails as a subframe that bolts to the body sort of like what the yanks were doing at the time on Camaros.
That problem can be fixed with just an air bag in the right rear coil spring . it will keep the car from trying to put the right rear on the black top ...
The driver has a very level head and doesn't try to "drive" the car. Of course it will at some point break and it will be a mess, until then it is fun to watch. Applied physics and a good chassis will have this car probably a good half to one second faster.
That car is missing a suspension component I run on my car to prevent what we just saw, one wheel up in the air. It is called an "Anti Roll Bar." They are designed to limit body roll during launch and improve your 60 foot times. This car's launch is dangerous as the stresses it puts on the driveline and body will eventually cause a major failure.
And yes, there are Hondas that can do this, AND with the original motor that came in the car. Try learning a bit more. I at least own both sides, domestic and import, and love both. I see what both can do. Stop hating and posting false info everywhere, kid.
I'm not trying to be rude. I would just like to understand why this is a good thing that the car is popping up like that? wouldn't you want your wheels to stay down?
' So much torque the chasis twisted coming off the line '
- Dominic Toretto
A quarter mile at a time
would be way faster with some chassis work, must be a nightmare to drive at the moment.
+torino390 sir, you seem to have written nightmare instead of fucking good time.. just letting you know
Especially when getting the groceries
It's not suspension works. It's the torque twist. That engine has so much torque, when the camshaft rotates, it pushes one side of the car up and one down. Crazy amount of power on it.
One wheel up you can steer outta trouble. Genius!
I wouldn't want my rare coupe twisting like that lol
not a rare car at all, expensive now but not rare
+shredBucketheadshred how's it not rare ? I'm an Australian and these are hard to come by.
Very rare car
mostly susp
@@kingpoooooo not
hq monaro's have got to be one of the best looking cars we ever made
Pfft
He dont wanna win. A pure Showman. Cheers!!!
Wow, hope the doors still open and close.
twisting like that AND running a 9.5, amazing
Far out what a crowd pleaser and what skilled driver control!
Look at those sweet Aussie muscle cars HQ, Torana GTR etc
Lol torque monster and he keeps getting beat in all of em
Cause the way hes twisting is taking the power away. the power is going into the body and frame and not on to the pavement

Rip it old school!. Get some convo pros on it !

The torque twist of the frame is what is making this drag car not win also losing time in the quarter mile.
Doesn't matter if this is a problem or suspension issues or etc. This guy made the show only by keeping the car in the track!
That frame twist reminds me of panhard rod suspensions.
the car has so much torque..the chassis and even the driver gets twisted off the line :D
wonder how much acceleration was lost by not keeping all four wheels on the ground
considering its not AWD, i'd say not much lol
@@JustMusicAndStuff he is saying the power used to twist the car should have been used to make it go forward instead
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yea
I would say a good sway bar would help, thats a little dangerous.
What a beast of a Monaro, fascinating to see👍❤️
greg trapnell and his monaro 1 of the most well known and iconic cars in aus fkn awesome
haha wow they got this thing setup to impress the crowd, and that it does. Be good to see what times it would run after there had there fun.
Turn the hydraulics off next time you run the car!
That's not hydraulics. That's torque
Whoooosh
Lol
Jesus Christ Thats frame twisting power!!!
Monaro: "I wanna lean like a lowrider"
Driver: "bet"
You're wrong. Stevie is right. This isn't a ladder chassis vehicle.
This is a fucking Monaaaaaaro.
It was half track before the front left decided to join the rest of the tyres on the track. Awesome.

Stiffen that right rear up you get better ets it looks cool but its costing you faster ets
+William Stuples, because someone that spent this kind of money on purposely made their car slower
rear swaybar?
That car is so MAD
Man if your car pulled straight youd be in the 8s...beast
In Trinidad an Tobago that car is known as the Holden Kingswood....we only had the four doors model only!
Greg just runs it without the rear sway bar, it flexes like that on purpouse.
That's neat and all but that is a definate et killer!
Awesome video
Could you imagine how screwed he would be with some chassis rigidity?
May have lost, but looked cool while doing so
Jesus that's mega twist hey. It's a wonder how it hasn't cracked the chassis yet.. or it probably has! a number of times.. nice qwie too.
Built for it 😉

yup
Right is wrong your saying yank yeah right
Worlds fastest 3 wheeled Monaro? :)
I'll tell you what if my drag car twisted like that it would be the major attraction at new england dragway
This one is 70's
I wish my 87 Camaro could do this

Half the chassis probably rusted away 😂
kings wood vs torana awesome holders
unsafe as fuck.
The chassis : *AAAAAAAAAAAA-*
Not sure if too much torque, or shit chassis. Well... it's an HQ Holden, so it's shit chassis.
Too much torque in a drag car? Def shit chassis.
Holden was made in china
Love how this car take okk

Just plain nasty. Love the stack injection.
awkward moment when u own a prius haha
Adjust the rear suspension so it will hook evenly,,and you might win a race!! Just saying..

Three wheeling the Right way!!!
love the colour

This is australia right? not america so dont say murica
Americans are not cool enough to drag like us Aussies mate.
I'm American I just hate the whole Murica thing.
Guess you'd say 'Stralia
Nasir Bradley nope not an American car
tyler jones not made in america but isnt it owned by gm ?
all it needs is a travel stop on the right rear but that would be boring looks good the way it is entertaining as buggery
no that looks awsome
and it safes tyres
all that torque and still get beat....
agree with mrgixxer, if it didn't have a cage and connecters that car would twist all the way around with horsepower that hes crankin

That is body roll not chassis flex. That car no doubt has a full cage and the subframe tied.
i believed it hooked.
he needs a sway bar or if hes got one he needs a stiffer and adjustable one
torque don't win race, hp do. they have been lying to you all these years.
yea engines twisting the chassis
How come only 1 wheel seems to lift off? Is that due to suspension or something?

Christopher R Realistically for faster ETs you would, but it looks awesome so why not?
Totally needs sub-frame connectors.
how about sorting out the chassis & suspension?
what do center of gravity mean yo?
He has to chain his engine down on the left
It looks fuckin Awsome thou…!!!
...torque monster or average chassis?
needs a frame. jesus that cant be safe
Lol torque twist, how cute.
well last i checked all hq,hj and hx monaros have sub-frames mate
he just got beat off the line fast car.

9 second tripod!
must be some kind of rubber paint on that car !!! ha ha
thats too scary to drive like that..

9.52 on the door handle
