Cool idea! Tom didn't say specifically what make and model of electric tankless he used on his setup. Rheem and Eemax make versions that are specifically meant to be installed as boosters, but they're a bit pricey. I was wondering whether to just use a regular small electric one for the purpose. I could get one with twice the kW rating for about half the price, and just run a separate circuit, rather than run the existing circuit through the booster control panel, the way Rheem wants you to set it up. The Rheem heater cuts power to the tank heater and feeds it to its own element when the inlet temp drops to the set point. I guess they're saving you having to put in a 240V circuit, but I don't mind running a circuit, especially in an unfinished basement, so I'll maintain power to the tank and NEVER run out of hot water. Does that make sense?
