FumeFX Thanos Portal Tutorial

  • Over the past 15 years of development and innovations FumeFX has become an integral part of major studio production pipelines. It has been used to create visual effects for many blockbuster films such as Justice League, Deadpool, Dr. Strange, Thor, Roland Emmerich’s 2012, Hugo, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Priest, Skyline, Suckerpunch, Spiderman 3, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Superman Returns, Iron Man and more.
    In this tutorial we're going to show you how to create a portal effect that was inspired by the Avengers Infinity War movie portal that appears when Thanos arrives to Wakanda. The portal in that shot displays dark tendrils with small lightings that illuminate it. Instead of the bluish glow we went with the fiery look and simulation that has benefitted from more detail.
    We're going to use FumeFX Effectors to control the smoke tendrils around the torus and for final rendering we will use the Arnold renderer. Scanline renderer scene is also provided.
    If you don't have the FumeFX 5 for 3ds Max, just go ahead and ask for your free Trial version here:

    Hi, my render goes perfectly from 0-76 frames, then the FumeFX Portal turns into this 3D big black square slab from frame 77 to frame 150, what did I do wrong?

    Tell me please, I downloaded your project, I need to simulate the portal 500 frames, but it all ends by 150, but I extended it to 500 frames, anyway, the smoke stops simulating and dissipates on 150 frame, I can not find the reason

    • @banmbonrap6128
      @banmbonrap6128 Před 5 lety

      the way to extend the simulation is to play with the noise of the torus. the keyframes dont go pass 150 so you just have to extend the keyframes, or add your own values.

      Hello,
      The FumeFX Workstation license is the minimum you need. You can choose perpetual which doesn't expire ($695 USD) or one of the rental options. The FumeFX 5.0 Workstation and 2 FumeFX Simulation bundle contains additional FumeFX SL licenses that allows you to run simulation on some other computer while you can continue to work on your workstation. I hope this helps.

      Can you see the simulation if you use the finished sim .max file?
      Also just to note that cracked copy might not work with the tutorial at all.

    Why are we using the Effector for turb channel ? And when I convert the scene to centimeter, all the setting look incorrect, how to debug every setting in a good way ? Sorry, I am new so I ask stupid questions.

    • @sitnisati
      @sitnisati  Před 5 lety

      Hello,
      With Effector we can limit where the turbulence is applied and in this case we want higher turbulence around the torus.

      The menus and rollouts have pretty much the same layout, it's just more parameters that were added compared to FumeFX 4.0.
