  • Sony CDX-GT270MP car stereo with shortwave band coverage. I have Sony shortwave car stereos on eBay under the seller ID "joefan98". Check out my eBay auctions. I am sold out of the GT270MP, but I have another model Sony with shortwave coverage that has a USB input for connecting an iPhone or Android phone to play through your stereo, and it has the same shortwave band coverage as the GT270MP.

Hello. I'm still a little confused on these units. I see a lot of places on the web selling this particular head unit state side. However, no where is there any documentation on whether these units are capable of shortwave reception (Sony included). Are your units coming from outside the USA, or is this an undocumented and / or hidden function of all these radios? Any insight would be great. Thanks!

John, I bought my radios from a guy on eBay who got them from overseas. Sony does not sell a shortwave car stereo in the United States.

Thanks. I wasn't seeing a difference in the models anywhere initially. Take care!

Do you know where I could find one of these? If not I would like to find some kind of SWL unit for a vehicle.

Sony is no longer making car stereos that have the shortwave bands. The only manufacturers that I know of still making car stereos with shortwave are Kenwood and Pioneer. There is a seller on eBay that has the Pioneer model, but it is very expensive and the seller is in Israel, so if you are in the USA, it would have to be shipped. Your best bet if you want shortwave in a vehicle, is probably to use a small, handheld radio like the Icom IC-R6 receiver with a mag mount external antenna.

Yes, they are original. No mods. This car stereo receives the shortwave frequencies in two ranges. They are SW1: 2940 - 7735 kHz and SW2: 9500 to 10140 kHz plus 11575 to 18135 kHz. Tunes only in 5 kHz.

Do you ever get shortwave car stereos anymore

    • @patluvsvettes

No, I don't have any shortwave car stereos for sale. They are getting very hard to find. The only place I know to find them is overseas sellers on eBay.

Here in Australia most Kenwood models have SW reception......they are the only ones really out of all the major manufacturers.

I see them for sale on eBay from time to time here in the states. The only problem with them here in the U.S. is that our AM band has 10 KHz separation and those radios tune in 9KHz steps. The old Sony stereos had a switch on the bottom where you could change it, and the Pioneer radios could do it in the software, but I don't think the Kenwood radios have that feature.

You can bid on one of my radios on Ebay. I no longer have the model with the CD player, but I have another model that has a USB input for iPhone. My eBay seller ID is "joefan98". Do an eBay search for my auctions and you will see the radio.
