We knew that when we bought Knot Vanilla we would need a windlass installed. #savetheback
We decided to go with a Lewmar Pro Fish 1000 windlass. Here is or DIY video showing how we mounted it to our deck. Took alot of prep work and reinforcement to get her deck solid enough to hold it. But all the work is done now, and it's such a great feeling to do a DIY windlass install on our sailboat. Going to make life so much easier for us.

For the now fixed anchor locker door, I would suggest to use rounded head bolts as we often walk bare foot at the bow and your Hex bolt may hurt you. Also, if it is not too late, I would drill the three mounting holes with a 1" drill bit, fill it back with epoxy and then drill the 3/8 hole for the bolt. As the windlass vibrates quite a bit when we weigh anchor, you could otherwise damage the joint and water could get in to rot the coring.
I didn't film it, but after the fitting it into place, I did exactly that. I should've added it to the video, but it was already getting too long. No one likes hearing me talk that much. Lol
Instead of running 0 gauge you can put a battery in the bilge or under vberth that way the run is shorter.
Really should have it on its own battery anyway.
You can get a battery isolator and hook it to your alternator then you'll be able to charger winless and your starting battery when you run the engine
I am going to look at a friend's who has that setup before I buy cable.
I have a Hunter Legend 35.5 that also has no windlass, I was already thinking of doing something like this. How has this held up over the years? Anything you would do different?
Anchor game strong 💪!
Nice bro
Yeah, it's the whole reason we spent the extra money. So we didn't have to worry about dragging so much. Our old anchor wouldn't hold a tissue down in a breeze.
How has it performed and held up thank you
It has been a lifesaver. And since we actually wired it in to work as intended, we wonder how we ever survived without it.
@@knotvanilla7808 good to know. Mine will be a project as well. Thank you
You could have called us! We are always willing to help, lend tools and space to work. 🤗
Thank you so much guys. Everyone started jumping in while Mady was still trying to take it off. Going to miss the awesome people in our Marina when we cast off.
Is this for an Endeavour?
Yes. Ours is an '86 Endeavour 35.5.
WTF?? I thought I was a better teacher than that! your grinding glass with ONLY a CHEAP dust mask. no respirator, no glasses, no gloves! Please review previous video on thru hull fill in. Safety 1st. PPE a must. looking forward to seeing you again.
want to see me again?? WEAR GLASSES WHEN GRINDING!!!
So funny. Because I forgot all my gear. And when I started filming, 1st thing I said was... "If Randy sees this, I am never gonna hear the end of it."
I am knot shore if getting the girls to do that work was an accident?... was it. (::wink::)
Shhhhhh, don't say that too loud.
