I have spent 20 years fighting algae in various tanks. The idea of letting algea grow over the bottom sounds like payback lol. It looks great in your tank.
😆, thank you
I always let algae carpet all walls except the front with goldfish and many others. Goldfish (shubunkins) always loved picking at it. Always stayed short any legnthy bits get trimmed quick
Also freaking gorgeous tank and fish sir. Cant wait to get set up again.
Clean 🧼 it all out and only use distilled water 💦 for changes if you have smaller aquarium . Also you can put a small uv steriliser filter in it
I use a pond UV on my system, but the algae is so beneficial, I'm not cleaning mine 😁
I have green carpet algea for only 2weeks
Great video. I'd like to grow a green algae carpet but my tank is being filled up with black beard algae. Any ideas to deter the black hair algae so I can replace it with a green carpet?
You can try hydrogen peroxide on it. If it's on ornaments or wood, I would remove them and soak in boiling water to remove it.
@@AquaticElements Sadly I can't boil them as there's plants attached and I tried hydrogen peroxide once but it was impractical for me to use. Thanks for advice anyway.
@@gemnickygamer169Water Lab's Algae Control works good. And make sure to turn all filters off for a period of time when you add peroxide. I think it's 3-4 tsp's per 10 gal. Do this at night before lights go off.
@@gemnickygamer169also do peroxide 3-5 nights in a row. I recommend keeping lights off the whole time, and you can even put a towel over / around tank during day to avoid light going in.
So 1. Darkness is your friend
2. Keep dosing for a few days.
@@littlewigglemonster7691 Ok. I'll try that. maybe the filters running and the tank not being in complete darkness at the time is way it didn't work. Thank you.
Hi, I am trying to get green algae. I got strong filtration + good lighting, got my tank setup running for 2 weeks now. But I see green hair algae + brownish/yellowish algae forming. What should I do?
The green carpet will take a while. In new tanks, you will get the brown diatom algae first. Normally, I would say green algae comes after 6-8 weeks
@@AquaticElements alright, and just do the water changes and let the algae sit or do you clean or trim down the diatoms?
@RedGalaxyFishbone you can let it sit or clean it off. I have seen people do both with success 🙌🏽
@@AquaticElements thank you!
