  • John Burns, that cantankerous old curmudgeon, captures the imagination and tickles the funny bone of many a student of the Battle of Gettysburg. But what is myth and what is legend? Tim Smith, LBG and author of John Burns "Hero of Gettysburg" joins us for this Ask a Gettysburg Guide to set the record straight, aided by the questions of our marvelous Patrons.

How can one book Tim Smith as a battlefield Guide????? Does he have an email to contact? Or does it have to be done through the visitor center???? Or is it not even possible?? Love all your podcasts here, its a hidden gem and Matt has one of the best voices for any kind of broadcasting. Keep up the good work guys !

I would suggest the "John Burns Crawl-athon" as a ACHS fundraiser. 😆

Thanks. My fav is Gen. George Meade; all my subordinate favs are “characters”, such as Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, and especially John L. Burns. Hey. Gen. Meade was a bit of a character in his own right.

Why? Because he whipped Lee at Gettysburg. He was the Commander under grant and did fairly well. Was nowhere near as able as Lee,Jackson, Longstreet, Nathan Bedford Forrest. Can you imagine if the south had all that manpower and industry. The Confederate armies were always outnumbered, but not outfought

Give the movie role to Harrison Ford...
